The eight-part drama landed on screens on Wednesday and has already proved a hit with viewers, with many praising Vera star Brenda Blethyn’s lead performance. Netflix viewers heavily divided over ‘twisty’ 8-part thriller Million-Follower Detective

Netflix is filled with crime dramas, from Agatha Christie’s hit series to several foreign-language dramas that have become incredibly popular. One of the streamer’s latest offerings is Million-Follower Detective, however, the show has ended up dividing fans. While some have been calling the drama “twisty” and a “complete firecracker”, others have lamented the lack of realism in the eight-part series and felt that it had a predictable plot. The concept is certainly intriguing, with the series following a bizarre masked social media influencer who starts correctly predicting the deaths of other influencers. Netflix’s logline for the show reads: “When influencer Yen Wei is being shot as he attempts to attack the police, veteran detective Chen Chia-jen discovers he is acting under someone’s orders. Technology Criminal Investigator Li Hsin-ping joins the case, and soon a chilling pattern is revealed – a string of influencer murders linked to a masked online prophet known as the Witch Baba, whose eerie predictions always come true, including four murder cases back to back. Calling all Canadian romance drama fans! Netflix released Finding Her Edge on 22 January, and viewers have been binge-watching all eight episodes in one go, launching it to the number two most-streamed show on Netflix right now. Coming in hot after the success of Heated Rivalry, which is also a romance drama set in Canada, Finding Her Edge follows a retired figure skater who returns to competitive ice dancing with a new partner. But when she runs into her first love, she must navigate a complicated love triangle. Adapted from Jennifer Iacopelli’s 2022 YA novel of the same name, the show stars Madelyn Keys (A Mother’s Lie), Olly Atkins (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) and Cale Ambrozic (We Were Liars), and comes from showrunner Jeff Norton (Geek Girl) and Shelley Scarrow (Degrassi: The Next Generation). ‘Twisted’ 8-part drama Industry lands 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating ahead of season 4 return

Calling all Industry fans! Season four of the hit HBO and the BBC banking drama is about to hit screens – and the new instalment has already scored a perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes.  The hit show, which first aired in 2020, follows a group of newly graduated young professionals who are all trying to make their way through the cutthroat world of high finance at a top investment bank, Pierpoint & Co, in London. If you’re anything like me, one of the first things you want to do in a new year is absolutely devour a new series. In my opinion, the best kind are ones that make you think, but are still relatively short. Step forward, Devs. Released back in 2020 on FX, the show follows Lily Chan (Sonoya Mizuno), who starts working at a quantum computing company, Amaya. However, it’s revealed that she has ulterior motives for joining the firm as her boyfriend, Sergei Pavlov (Karl Glusman), died on his first day at the business. The synopsis reads: “Devs is an FX limited series that focuses on a young software engineer named Lily Chan who works for Amaya, a cutting-edge tech company based in Silicon Valley. After her boyfriend Sergei’s apparent suicide, Lily suspects foul play and begins to investigate. “She quickly realizes that all roads lead to Forest, Amaya’s enigmatic CEO, and Devs, the company’s secret development division. Netflix viewers praise ‘gripping’ 8-part mystery thriller with Midsomer Murders star

Netflix viewers who tuned into Run Away, the eight-part mystery thriller starring Gavin & Stacey‘s Ruth Jones and Midsomer Murders‘ Annette Badland, are hooked after all eight episodes landed on the streamer on New Year’s Day. The new series, which is based on Harlan Coben’s 2019 novel, follows a father called Simon, whose world turns upside down when his eldest daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) runs away from home. You know you’re in for a treat when a project comes from Harlan Coben, whose novels have inspired major on-screen hits like Netflix’s Fool Me Once and The Stranger, as well as Prime Video’s Lazarus. Having seen the first two episodes ahead of launch, I can say that fans of twisty mystery thrillers with a clever sleuth will find plenty to enjoy. The show fits neatly into Netflix’s growing catalogue of Coben thrillers, which tend to favour twisty narratives and morally complex characters.
