3D-printed lymph nodes could widen access to CAR T-cell therapy

3D-printed lymph nodes could widen access to CAR T-cell therapy

CAR T-cell therapy can be very effective against cancer, and it might be about to get more accessible Nemes Laszlo/Shutterstock CAR T-cell therapy, when someone’s immune cells are genetically engineered to kill cancer cells, is highly effective for treating certain types of cancer, but it is too expensive to be widely available worldwide. But utilising 3D printing could mean that these engineered cells are produced for less money and – crucially – faster, making the treatment more accessible. “When you’re treating very sick patients, some patients might never get the therapy because they’ve deteriorated so much in the three or so weeks it might take to make the CAR T therapy,” says David Coe at CoED Biosciences, a biotechnology company in Cardiff, UK, who wasn’t involved in the latest research. CAR T-cell therapy involves extracting immune cells called T-cells from someone’s blood before genetically engineering them to recognise and destroy cancer cells. This is usually done by mixing the cells with tiny beads that activate their proliferation. They are also mixed with a harmless virus …

Stephen Colbert’s public access spot sparks CBS copyright fray

Stephen Colbert’s viral public access spot had former bosses CBS and its parent company Paramount in a brief tizzy over the weekend, mere hours after his buzzy late-night sign-off. The longtime TV personality, 62, returned to the air on Friday evening on “Only in Monroe,” a public access program in Monroe, Mich., with an hour-long late-night parody episode that featured several guests and took shots at Paramount’s monopolistic aspirations in media. Colbert, previously a one-time host of “Only in Monroe,” began his episode: “It’s been an excruciating 23 hours without being on TV, so I am grateful to be able to be here on Monroe Community before they also get acquired by Paramount.” The “Only in Monroe” episode was broadcast in southeast Michigan, the Associated Press reported, and also published to Colbert’s official YouTube page. News of Colbert’s surprise late-night spot spread online, with social media users reposting the episode in its entirety or sharing clips. Journalist and the Desk founder Matthew Keys shared the episode to his X (formerly Twitter) page, tweeting on Sunday …

The program was reposted widely on Youtube and other social media platforms, leading CBS to initially fire off copyright protection notices. “Paramount is apparently …

Iran’s President Orders Reopening of International Internet Access, State Media Reports

May 25 (Reuters) – Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has issued an order to reopen international internet access, Iranian state media reported on Monday, citing an official ‌after a near-90-day blackout ‌in the wake of the war against U.S. and Israel. The report cited the head of public relations at Iran’s Communications Ministry. The mechanism for how and when Iran would reconnect to the global web following the decision was unknown. Most Iranians have been unable to access the worldwide web for 87 days according to the internet observatory NetBlocks on Monday, with only a few citizens having access to expensive and advanced VPNs that circumvent the restrictions. Authorities initially imposed an internet blackout from January 8 in response to nationwide anti-government protests, with connections gradually getting back to normal in February, before a new blackout was initiated following the start of U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran on February 28. In normal times, access to the global internet remains heavily restricted via censorship of many websites, while authorities are increasingly relying on an intranet to …

Paramount Denies Trying to Suppress Stephen Colbert Public Access Show

The social media-verse exploded over the weekend with rumors that Paramount is trying to “suppress” the episode of a public-access show that Stephen Colbert hosted, but the truth is something different, sources told The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount is not actually trying to “suppress” copies of Colbert’s surprise appearance on Only in Monroe, as rumors across social media suggested over the weekend. A day after hosting the last ever Late Show on CBS, Colbert popped up as a surprise host Michigan public access TV show based in Monroe, Michigan, at 11:30 p.m. Friday. Surprise guests included Jack White and Jeff Daniels, with other surprise appearances from Steve Buscemi, Eminem and Byron Allen (via FaceTime). SpaceX IPO Filing Reveals Anthropic Is Paying Billion a Year to Access Its Data Centers

SpaceX IPO Filing Reveals Anthropic Is Paying $15 Billion a Year to Access Its Data Centers

Anthropic has agreed to pay SpaceX $1.25 billion per month through May of 2029 for access to cloud computing infrastructure, a long-awaited US regulatory filing revealed on Wednesday. In other words, Anthropic will be sending a rival artificial intelligence lab roughly $15 billion a year, an extraordinary sum that demonstrates how access to compute has become one of the defining bottlenecks in the race to develop advanced artificial intelligence. Anthropic and SpaceX announced a deal earlier this month that gives the Claude developer access to GPUs at Colossus and Colossus II, a pair of data centers straddling Tennessee and Mississippi with more than one gigawatt of computing power. SpaceX had rushed to build the facilities for its xAI unit, which develops the Grok AI chatbot, but Musk said his company didn’t need all of their computing capacity in the end. Terms of the deal had not been previously disclosed. Anthropic is paying an unspecified reduced fee for May and June before the $1.25 billion per month rate takes effect, SpaceX said in its S-1 regulatory …

Trump AI Executive Order To Seek Early Access To Advanced Models

Trump AI Executive Order To Seek Early Access To Advanced Models

After Anthropic’s ‘Mythos’ model sent shockwaves through the cybersecurity world due to its ability to find and exploit software vulnerabilities at breakneck speed, the Trump administration is reportedly on the cusp of issuing a much-discussed executive order that would encourage AI companies to provide information on their advanced models to the government before public release.  Anthropic’s Dario Amodei According to Axios, the order – which could come as soon as this week – will outline plans for a voluntary framework – meaning companies can just ignore it – under which AI labs would share their models with the government at least 90 days before public release, while also giving access to certain critical infrastructure providers.  Mythos and OpenAI’s latest model, GPT-5.5-Cyber, have raised alarm bells both inside and outside government due to their ability to find and exploit software vulnerabilities with unprecedented speed.  The EO will also cover cybersecurity, and “aims to secure the Pentagon and other national security agencies, boost cyber hiring, shore up cybersecurity systems across the country at places like hospitals and banks, and …

The US Built a Site to Ensure Fair Access to Public Lands. Then Everything Went Wrong

The US Built a Site to Ensure Fair Access to Public Lands. Then Everything Went Wrong

We do know that Booz Allen Hamilton is making much more money than it originally projected. In the contract, the company estimated that it would make $87 million in the first five years, and a total of about $182 million over 10 years if the contract was extended, which it has been. According to their invoices, Booz Allen Hamilton billed for more than $140 million in the first four years of the contract. The Forest Service didn’t return our FOIA request for more recent numbers, but one analyst, Canadian sales strategist Blair Enns, projected that they could make $620 million by the time their contract expires in September 2028. The uptick in traffic is one reason for that. But the model has also changed since 2016. That year there were less than 3 million reservations through the site; in 2023 there were roughly 9 million. BAH says there are now 5,800 facilities and more than 128,000 sites and activities to reserve. More facilities have shifted to using Rec.gov’s system, and things that were free, or …
