The Fall Affair by Vi Keeland

The Fall Affair by Vi Keeland

Somewhere in the first third of The Fall Affair by Vi Keeland, a man is standing in a ninety-year-old woman’s kitchen in Cortona, forced to read aloud a letter written by her late sister. The letter congratulates the recipient on outliving three husbands, two of whom were actually hers, notes that she is inheriting nothing, not even the unmatched Tupperware lids, and closes by explaining that her family burial plot has been donated to a more deserving stranger. The old woman sets the page on fire on her own front lawn and spits at the feet of the innocent granddaughter standing outside. That is Sophia Bianchi, and she has been dead since January. She is also, comfortably, the best character in this novel. The setup is efficient. Allegra Bianchi, thirty-one, bills more hours than anyone at her Manhattan firm, gets passed over for partner in favour of a colleague whose qualifications are not strictly legal, and resigns in the men’s room in a way she will be explaining for years. Days later a letter arrives …

Decimo review: This Mexican restaurant is an up and down affair

Decimo review: This Mexican restaurant is an up and down affair

This Time Next Week: “Good Mexican food is hard to come by in London but @decimo.london has stood the test of time and was just as impressive as our first visit.” Promise Frances: “It’s luxurious, class, romantic, relaxing. Also the food was amazing. The staff are friendly and professional and we were attended to all the time we were there.” Sam: “This restaurant has a moody, atmospheric vibe, with a buzzy crowd and great views over St Pancras. It’s the sort of room you want to be in — which makes the food all the more frustrating.” Source link

Trump’s relationship with aide Natalie Harp becomes family affair as son Eric weighs in

Eric Trump became the latest member of Donald Trump’s inner circle to come to the defense of White House aide Natalie Harp Wednesday, as her close relationship with the president garners intense public interest. On social media, the president’s son defended Harp, declaring that she is “an incredible young woman – a cancer survivor, a genuinely good person, and arguably one of the hardest-working people in the White House.” “She’s deeply committed to my father, to her job, and to this country,” Eric Trump wrote. His remarks were in response to her brother, Preston Harp, calling his sister’s relationship with the president an “unhealthy obsession” during a CNN interview. Eric Trump called Preston Harp “absolute trash” for his comments and insulted his appearance, insisting that Natalie “got all the family genetics.” Eric Trump (pictured center right) defended one of his father’s closest aides, Natalie Harp (pictured center left), after her relationship to the president became the subject of public speculation (Getty) Harp, a 35-year-old White House aide, has been in the spotlight in recent days …

See Trailer for New Thomas Crown Affair, with Michael B. Jordan as Art Thief

Amazon MGM Studios dropped this week the trailer for The Thomas Crown Affair, a remake of the acclaimed 1968 film that will open in theaters on March 5, 2027. Directed by and starring Academy Award–winning actor Michael B. Jordan, the trailer already hints at the art-related plot points for the film. About 12 seconds into the trailer, Jordan’s Thomas Crown faces some built-in bookshelves that slide apart to reveal a hidden room where he stores his stolen paintings. On a metal rack, resembling the sliding vertical racks often used in museum and gallery storage, are four paintings. Crown holds another canvas in his hands to add to his collection of looted masterpieces. The First Teaser Trailer for Michael B. Jordan’s Remake of The Thomas Crown Affair Is Here

On Tuesday, Michael B. Jordan, Academy Award winner and very muscular movie star, posted the poster for the upcoming remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, a film he directed and in which he also stars as the titular character. And on Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studios released the teaser trailer for the movie, which will arrive in theaters in March 2027. The minute-and-a-half-long clip features everything you’d expect from an MBJ film: tons of action scenes, some glamour shots of his upper body, and a stunning love interest, which in this case is Adria Arjona. It also features most of what one would expect from The Thomas Crown Affair: the interior of a beautiful museum, which here looks like the Great Hall steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art; a prized art piece, which here seems to be one of, or a reference to, Vincent van Gogh’s famous sunflower paintings; and some heist-adjacent behavior. There is, however, one key piece of the puzzle missing: the fashion. This is the fourth version of The Thomas Crown Affair. …

Aide involved in affair with Gavin Newsom in 2005 speaks out

An aide involved in an affair with Gavin Newsom more than 20 years ago, when he was mayor of San Francisco, detailed their relationship and her journey to sobriety in an essay published by Vanity Fair on Tuesday. Although Ruby Rippey, 54, has spoken previously about her relationship with the now-governor, her first-person essay offers the most intimate description yet of the affair. It comes at a time when Newsom is wrapping up his final year as California governor and considering a presidential run in 2028. Rippey, who had worked as Newsom’s appointments secretary, was married to Alex Tourk, the then-mayor’s close friend, campaign manager and prior deputy chief of staff, when the affair became public in 2007. Tourk resigned after Rippey told him that she had been sleeping with their boss, she writes. At the time, Newsom was newly divorced from Kimberly Guilfoyle and he apologized in front of a gaggle of reporters who packed his office for a news conference, admitting “everything you’ve heard and read is true.” Later, he said he was …
