Prince Albert and rarely-seen son Alexandre Grimaldi, 22, attend tennis tournament separately

On 11 April, at the prestigious Monte Carlo tennis tournament, an unprecedented and, to say the least, somewhat strange situation unfolded. It wasn’t unusual to see Prince Albert at the Country Club enjoying one of the matches played on clay, but it was truly surprising that his son, Alexandre Grimaldi, was also there. They weren’t seen together at any point, so it’s understood that they arrived separately, and it’s also unknown whether they had any contact while at the venue. Alexandre Singh and Natalie Musteata Win Oscar for Short Film

Artists and filmmakers Alexandre Singh and Natalie Musteata won the Oscar for best live action short film on Sunday for their dystopian short Two People Exchanging Saliva. In a rare twist, however, they didn’t take the prize alone. The award ended in a tie with the musical comedy short The Singers. Two People Exchanging Saliva runs 36 minutes and is in French, while The Singers, an 18-minute musical comedy directed by Sam Davis, follows a group of strangers who connect through music during a moment of widespread social isolation. Related Articles Comedian and actor Kumail Nanjiani, who presented the award, seemed almost as surprised as the nominees. “It’s a tie—I’m not joking, it’s actually a tie,” he said from the stage. “Everyone calm down, we’re going to get through this, focus up.” Singh and Musteata’s film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and has since circulated widely on the international festival circuit. Set in present-day Paris, it imagines a society where kissing, and nearly any form of physical intimacy, is illegal and punishable by death. …

Director Alexandre Trudeau Addresses Berlin Artistic Freedom Debate

Few filmmakers are better placed than Alexandre Trudeau to talk about artists addressing political issues after the Berlin Film Festival no-politics backlash, as both his father, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, and brother Justin Trudeau both served as Canadian prime ministers. “Coming from politics in my family, politics are everywhere. There’s always politics. They’re in everything,” Trudeau told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of his latest movie, the survivalist thriller Hair of the Bear that he co-directed with James McLellan and stars The Baby-Sitters Club actress Malia Baker and Roy Dupuis. Early in his filmmaking career as a documentary maker, Trudeau toured political hot spots, including Baghdad in 2003, where he shot Embedded in Iraq during the U.S.-led invasion. A year later, he directed The Fence, a film about two families on either side of the Israel-Palestine conflict in the West Bank. He also did a doc on civil unrest in Liberia and Sierra Leone and another that chronicled the humanitarian crisis in Sudan. “I have a very radical humanism ultimately, and at a younger age, I always …

Under Paris 2 Moving Forward at Netflix with Alexandre Aja to Direct

It’s not safe to go back into the water. Netflix is finally taking steps to move on a sequel to Under Paris, its hit 2024 French shark movie, tapping horror mainstay and French local Alexandre Aja to direct the new project. The original movie, with the French name Sous la Seine (which translates to Under the Seine), was helmed by Xavier Gens. Under Paris starred Bérénice Bejo as a marine researcher who must overcome her traumatic past in order to save Paris from a mutant shark (and her offspring) that can live in fresh water and is now terrorizing the city. Especially the citizens taking part in a triathlon that the mayor has refused to cancel. The movie and its brand of ridiculous fun proved infectious it became one of the most watched movies worldwide on the service that year. Bejo is expected to return and Vincent Roget is back as producer. It is unclear why Gens, who was one of the creature feature’s co-writers, is not returning. And it is unclear who wrote the …
