During Google’s two-hour keynote this week, the company spent a generous 12 minutes discussing Android XR and the “Intelligent Eyewear” genre that it encompasses. But when you’ve got hardware partners in Samsung and Qualcomm, and a rich software ecosystem to build around, that’s all the time you really need to send a message. Google is effectively launching three pairs of smart glasses by the end of this year: audio-only models from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, Project Aura with Xreal, and a reference model with a single-view display. Google demonstrated how users can interact with Flow Agent, for example, like a creative collaborator, asking it for recommendations and input on dialogue and plot development. With the new Omni Flash model, Google said Flow now preserves character consistency across frames, comparing Omni for video to Nano Banana for images.  Pics, Google’s new image tool, leverages Nano Banana and lets you create all-new graphics or edit existing photos, flyers, and more. On a related note, Canva launched its Connected App for Gemini, allowing users to create in Canva from within the Gemini app. Just connect Canva to Gemini and type “@Canva” to get started; the integration can even use your chats as design context. Canva already has similar access set up in Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot, so this move just brings access up to speed for another major chatbot.  Source …

It was designed to put a computer directly on your face, but the world (and to some extent, the hardware) wasn’t quite ready for that yet. At Google I/O 2026 on Tuesday, Google announced new intelligent eyewear built with Samsung and Qualcomm, in frames from Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, shipping this fall. It’s a far cry from the original Google Glass project, and in many ways, it simplifies and streamlines the overall interaction. The pitch is that the glasses skip the standalone hardware category entirely. They put a Gemini agent in eyewear people would already wear, and let it do multi-step work on the phone in your pocket. Google held its annual Google I/O event today, launching new AI products and giving us a look at what’s coming in the near future. Google I/O is Google’s equivalent of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, and Google’s announcements offer insight into what Apple is going to be competing with in the coming months. We’ve rounded up everything Google announced at I/O across its product lineup. Gemini Gemini Omni – Gemini Omni is a new model that can create anything from any input, and that is better at simulating gravity and kinetic energy. It combines Gemini intelligence with generative models like Nano Banana and Veo. It supports conversational language video editing, and allows users to upload videos and edit any element in the video. Omni is starting with video, but Google’s Demis Hassabis says it will eventually be able to create any output from any input. Google has been teasing its Android XR-powered smart glasses for the past year and a half—ever since it first announced the new mixed reality platform in December of 2024. Now, we’re finally starting to see more polished versions of the hardware, several of which will actually go on sale this fall. At Google I/O, the company gave us a first look at the designs of smart glasses coming from established eyewear brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. These smart glasses are codeveloped by Samsung and Google, while the eyeglass companies handle the design of the frames. Xreal also took the stage at I/O to showcase its upcoming Project Aura, which is essentially a miniaturized glasses version of bulky headsets like the Apple Vision Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy XR—powering a full Android app interface with hand gestures for interaction.
