Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication. Every now and again, a sex toy brand comes along that shakes up the industry. Ann Summers is really that person, because they were among the first to do that. The beloved high street brand might have been a renowned spot to try on your first push up bra back in the day, but it’s also one of the biggest pioneers of pleasure in the UK. As well as doing more than its fair share of supplying women across the country with raunchy lingerie for any and every occasion, Ann Summers was the first to bring the rabbit vibrator to our shores more than 30 years ago. Since then, it’s made it its mission …

I Could Give You the Moon by Ann Liang

I Could Give You the Moon by Ann Liang

Some books announce their intentions in the first paragraph. Ann Liang’s latest, I Could Give You the Moon, opens with its narrator delivering a wry mini-essay on the predictable stages of heartbreak, and you understand immediately what kind of voice you’ve signed up for: knowing, glossy, slightly mean, and secretly hoping someone proves it wrong. The Premise: A Vision That Won’t Let Go Chanel Cao is the kind of girl whose existence has been algorithmically optimized since middle school. Her face sells magazines in Beijing, her selfies trend on Weibo, and her smile arrives twelve frames before the camera does. Ares Yin, the new transfer at Airington International Boarding School, has spent his life doing the opposite: shrinking, deflecting, and quietly searching for the little brother who vanished three years ago. When the two of them stand by a strange lake and witness the same impossible vision, the rules of their lives flip. Chanel’s house is burning down in the water. Ares’s missing brother is standing across the street from the flames. Each wants something …

Paul Merton says Ann Widdecombe encounter was ‘lowest point of my career’

Paul Merton says Ann Widdecombe encounter was ‘lowest point of my career’

Paul Merton has described an interaction with former Conservative MP Ann Widdecombe as being “the lowest point of my professional life”. In a Q&A with The Telegraph, the comedian and longtime Have I Got News for You panelist recalled an episode of the BBC series in which Widdecombe featured as guest host. At the time, Widdecombe was a Tory MP; the notoriously eccentric politician later served as a member of European Parliament for the Brexit Party, and is currently Reform UK’s Immigration and Justice spokesperson. Paul Merton on ‘Have I Got News For You’ (left) and Ann Widdecombe (right) (BBC/Getty) Asked about his worst moment on Have I Got News for You, Merton, 68, responded: “Ann Widdecombe hosting, who obviously is the queen of comedy. At one point she turned to me and said, ‘Come on, be funny. That’s what you’re being paid for.’ I thought, ‘I’m aware of my professional responsibilities, you goblin.’ “That was the lowest point of my professional life, being directed by Ann Widdecombe,” he added. Widdecombe hosted Have I Got …

The best new science fiction books of May 2026 include a new Murderbot and books from Alan Moore and Ann Leckie

The best new science fiction books of May 2026 include a new Murderbot and books from Alan Moore and Ann Leckie

Alexander Skarsgård in Murderbot, adapted from Martha Wells’s novels Steve Wilkie / Apple TV+ Some months, I end up scraping the bottom of the barrel to find enough interesting science fiction to tell you about. This May that wasn’t a problem – there’s tons to look forward to, whether you’re after time-travelling romance from Matt Haig (yes please), extinction events in London from Temi Oh (I’ve already read this and it’s a lot of fun), the latest Murderbot novel (hurrah) or a generation-ship story that comes garlanded with praise. There are also new titles from big names Ann Leckie and Alan Moore. If that’s not enough, then you can join the New Scientist Book Club here, and our lively Discord channel here, where we’re discussing all things sci-fi and popular science. I got into the Murderbot books a few years back, when we read the first in the series, All Systems Red, with the New Scientist Book Club. I’m a proper fan now, including of the new television series starring Alexander Skarsgård as the eponymous cyborg …

Ann Leckie continues to shine with new sci-fi novel Radiant Star

Ann Leckie continues to shine with new sci-fi novel Radiant Star

The planet Aaa has lost its star, forcing its population to live underground Mehau Kulyk/Science Photo Library/Alamy Radiant StarAnn Leckie, Orbit Books UK Ann Leckie has quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with in science fiction since the publication of her stunning debut, Ancillary Justice, in 2013. Ancillary Sword and Ancillary Mercy came along hard on the heels of her debut. All three books in the so-called Imperial Radch trilogy ended up heavily garlanded with top sci-fi awards. Since then, except for one detour into a fantasy setting in The Raven Tower, Leckie has turned to writing standalone novels in the Radch universe. To my shame, I haven’t yet read Provenance, but I deeply enjoyed Translation State, particularly as it focused on Leckie’s delightful and terrible Presger aliens, which like to take things apart – whether the things happen to be dead or alive. Now comes her third Imperial Radch standalone novel, Radiant Star, which is out this month. Radiant Star is set on one planet, called Aaa, but it is an …

Carrie Ann Inaba shares health update after suffering medical emergency on flight

Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Stay ahead of the curve with our weekly guide to the latest trends, fashion, relationships and more Carrie Ann Inaba has shared that she’s on the road to recovery after experiencing a “small medical emergency” on a flight to New York City. The Dancing with the Stars judge, 58, posted a video Thursday on Instagram to detail how she suddenly felt sick during her flight. She received help from the in-flight crew, before being met by paramedics at the gate when the plane landed, and transported to the emergency room via ambulance. Inaba gave an update on her health Friday, telling USA Today that she was on the mend. She further recalled how she felt “very unwell” on the flight. “I was dizzy, nauseous, very warm and my arms started feeling numb,” she said in a statement to the publication. “I …

The Oscars completely snubbed the year’s most daring film, The Testament of Ann Lee

The Oscars completely snubbed the year’s most daring film, The Testament of Ann Lee

Add The Testament of Ann Lee to your watchlist Every Oscars season, us film fans are met with the inevitable snubs: from films of certain genres not being considered serious enough, to quiet, brilliant performances being dropped in favour of louder ones that sit within the rigid framework of what the Academy considers ‘worthy’. Of course, we’re also then often met by the rogue choices that leave everyone blinking in disbelief at their television screens. (I, for one, received a few surprised texts when one certain Best Picture nominee was read out this afternoon…). This year, however, one particular snub has stuck out like a sore thumb – Mona Fastvold’s The Testament of Ann Lee. And not only was Ann Lee snubbed – it was completely ignored from the nominations list, with its name not falling under a single category in this year’s slate. That’s right. Daniel Blumburg’s staggering, hypnotic score (which I actually have on in the background while writing this) was erased; Woman Clothed by the Sun, one of the most angelic original …

What films are out in UK cinemas this week? Reviews from The Testament of Ann Lee to Scream 7

This week marks the release of one of the most ambitious – and, it turns out, divisive – films of the year in the shape of Mona Fastvold’s The Testament of Ann Lee. The sweeping, unorthodox musical is led by a tremendous turn by Amanda Seyfried as the titular founder of the 18th century Shaker religious movement and incorporates a spectacular selection of spell-binding numbers from Oscar-winning composer Daniel Blumberg. It won’t be for everyone – and indeed our official review below lands on the negative side – but we’d recommend seeing this one for yourself, as it evidently fiercely splits opinion. There are plenty of other new releases in cinemas this week as well; including the seventh – somewhat controversial – entry in the Scream franchise, the thrilling Oscar-nominated film Sirat and Baz Luhrmann’s return to the world of Elvis Presley for a new convert film. You can find our reviews for all four of those films below, while you can also discover our lowdown on the other major movies released in UK cinemas …

Penguin Press Founder Ann Godoff, a Powerhouse Editor of Bestsellers and Prize Winners, Dies at 76

Penguin Press Founder Ann Godoff, a Powerhouse Editor of Bestsellers and Prize Winners, Dies at 76

NEW YORK (AP) — Ann Godoff, a leading book publisher for more than 30 years with an eye for timely and timeless works from “Alexander Hamilton” and “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil” to current bestsellers by Gisèle Pelicot and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, has died. She was 76. Godoff died of cancer Tuesday in Albany, New York, according to a statement from Penguin Press, which she had founded in 2003. “Ann’s impact on American book culture over the past four decades is incalculable,” Penguin Press publisher Scott Moyers said in a statement. “An editor of immense range in fiction, nonfiction and poetry, Ann shepherded into print innumerable New York Times bestsellers, multiple winners of every major award, and works that have appeared on all manner of best books lists — of the year, the decade, and the century.” A onetime NYU film student who studied under then-faculty member Martin Scorsese, sold cars and assisted on Dr. Joyce Brothers’ television show, Godoff was a late bloomer who didn’t begin her publishing career until …
