Houthis target Saudi base as Iran denies involvement in Yemen war

Last week, American media reported that US President Donald Trump had rejected a personal request from Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the kingdom’s de facto ruler, to intervene in the war. The Saudi crown prince received the commander of the US Central Command, Admiral Brad Cooper, in Jeddah on Monday to discuss “the latest developments in the region”, according to Saudi news agency SPA. The US admiral travelled to Saudi Arabia on Thursday for urgent coordination meetings, according to US news site Axios. The Houthis, whose heartland is among Yemen’s Zaidi Muslims in the country’s north, seized the capital Sanaa in 2014 at the outset of the civil war, driving the government to Aden in the south. The following year, Saudi Arabia led a coalition to intervene on the side of the government, launching wave after wave of airstrikes as the conflict escalated into one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world. In 2025, the United Nations warned that 17 million Yemenis were struggling to eat and a further million faced extreme …

NASA call targets key lunar technologies for future Moon Base

NASA call targets key lunar technologies for future Moon Base

NASA has announced a call for proposals to develop the lunar technologies needed to support exploration and establish a long-term human presence at the Moon’s South Pole. The agency is targeting major gaps in power generation, oxygen production, manufacturing and advanced materials as it works towards a future Moon Base. The call forms part of NASA’s Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships-3, or NextSTEP-3, and focuses on technologies that could eventually operate in the harsh lunar environment. NASA wants competing solutions to be matured and demonstrated, helping move critical systems closer to operational use. The result could be a new generation of lunar infrastructure capable of producing power and resources locally while reducing dependence on supplies launched from Earth. NASA says the programme will support US-led capabilities while allowing participation from private companies, universities, non-profit organisations and international partners working through US-led teams. Speaking on the initiative, Greg Stover, director of NASA’s Advanced Research and Technology Division, commented: “NASA is accelerating the development of key technologies and closing critical gaps needed for long-term human exploration …

New Images Reveal China’s Stealth Drone At Secretive “Area 51” Base

Aviation researcher Andreas Rupprecht posted footage on LinkedIn that appears to show China’s next-generation high-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance drone, an aircraft he estimates is “comparable in size to the US Air Force’s B-21 Raider.” Rupprecht wrote on LinkedIn that the WZ-X drone was spotted at a secretive air base in China’s Xinjiang region, known to some as China’s version of Area 51: Two new images of the PLAAF’s latest and largest intercontinental HALE ISR #UAV, provisionally referred to simply as the #WZ-X, have been leaked, apparently showing the aircraft somewhere in Xinjiang. The UAV was first spotted on satellite imagery in May 2025 at the PLAAF’s UAV test centre at Malan Air Base in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwestern China. Rupprecht continued: In recent years, Malan/Uxxaktal (ZWML) has developed into the PLAAF’s main test centre for trialling UAVs and UCAVs of all types, while also serving as the base of the 178th UAV Brigade. Satellite imagery from 2022 onwards shows extensive expansion of the base’s infrastructure, including new hangars, taxiways and facilities …

Alex Eala Returns to the US Open With a Roaring Fan Base and on a Path to Stardom

NEW YORK (AP) — More than 8,000 fans packed the Grandstand at the U.S. Open last year to witness Alex Eala rally from down 5-1 in the third set to upset 14th-ranked Clara Tauson. The crowd went crazy, waving Filipino flags to celebrate the comeback. Eala is now up to a career-best 18th in the world, and at just 21 appears to be on a trajectory to stardom that has outgrown all but the biggest venues at Flushing Meadows. “The crowd is going to be wild for her,” ESPN’s Patrick McEnroe said. “Better make sure they don’t put her on one of those side courts early in the tournament.” Back at a Grand Slam after reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon, she called herself “a drop in the ocean” while downplaying her impact on the sport. “At the forefront of everything is gratitude: I’m very grateful for the support that my fans give me and that my supporters give me,” Eala said Friday. “Every single WTA player and every single ATP player has contributed …

Fears erupt as China suspected to be spying on UK military base from Cyprus hotel | World | News

A luxury hotel in Cyprus could potentially be used to gather information on a nearby RAF base, British intelligence and military sources have warned. The concerns were first brought to attention by The Telegraph, which reported that the 16-storey City of Dreams Mediterranean resort could provide a vantage point overlooking RAF Akrotiri, one of Britain’s most strategically important military sites. It is particularly sensitive because it has been used in operations connected to the conflict with Iran and is home to advanced military aircraft, including F-35B Lightning II stealth fighters. The hotel is around 4.5 miles from the base and is much taller than many of the surrounding buildings. According to the sources, someone positioned on one of the hotel’s upper floors could potentially monitor aircraft taking off and landing using just binoculars. The highest floor is home to two presidential suites, which sources say offer the clearest views towards the military installation. Sources also told The Telegraph there is “no world” in which Beijing would not want to “seek to exploit” the hotel’s location. …
