WASHINGTON (AP) — The Department of Defense is introducing a course centered on Western civilization and Christianity this fall in the schools it operates for military families, part of an effort by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to redirect the education system toward patriotic values and classical learning. The Department of Defense Education Activity operates about 160 schools across 11 countries and educates roughly 70,000 students who are children of active-duty military or civilian service members. Conservatives have eyed the schools — which, unlike most public schools, are run by the federal government — as a testing ground for reshaping education. The Western civilization course planned for this fall will use a textbook published by Encounter Books, a conservative publishing house. The base iPhone 18 model that Apple is expected to release by March 2027 will be equipped with 12GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the iPhone 17, according to analyst Jeff Pu. Pu’s latest assessment, if accurate, would see the iPhone 18 gaining the same amount of memory as the iPhone 17 Pro models. Analyst Dan Nystedt claimed the same RAM upgrade for the iPhone 18 back in April. That said, their predictions conflict with the most recent report on the subject from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e would have only 9GB of RAM. This would prevent the devices from supporting some Apple Intelligence features. However, Pu agrees with Kuo that the lower-cost iPhone 18e – also coming in the spring – will come with 9GB of RAM, based on his own sources and supply chain information. Decentralized social network Bluesky was one of the bigger beneficiaries of the exodus from Elon Musk’s X in November 2024, following the U.S. elections. But now, nearly two years later, the social network and would-be X competitor is struggling to hold onto its momentum. According to data from digital intelligence provider Similarweb, Bluesky’s mobile app had 10.4 million monthly active users worldwide in June 2026, down 27.2% year-over-year. In addition, mobile daily active users continued to decline, falling 25.6% year-over-year in July to around 3 million. The Austin energy company designed Core to do two jobs: provide automatic whole-home backup during an outage and operate as part of Base’s growing virtual power plant when the grid is running. Base says Core stores about three times the capacity of a typical home battery. Homes can get two units for 78.4 kWh of storage and up to 72 hours of backup with reduced electricity use. Actual runtime will depend on what’s running – air conditioning, for example, will drain it faster. Core can be connected to solar, and it also has a built-in port for recharging from a portable generator. SAN DIEGO — A fighter jet crashed in San Diego on Friday after suffering a “class A mishap,” according to officials. The F-35B assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing of Marine Aircraft Group 11 crashed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar around 10 a.m. PT, a spokesperson for MCAS Miramar said. The crash sparked a fire in a field on the base, according to the spokesperson. The base fire department referred inquiries to the MCAS public affairs office, which had no updates on the size of the blaze or when it was knocked down. The pilot was ejected and taken to a medical facility for evaluation and treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing said in a statement. The Marine aviator was said to be stable. Images of the crash show what appears to be the charred F-35B shrouded in smoke and surrounded by burned grass. It is unclear what caused the crash. Britain is ready to defend itself against Iranian missile attacks, the Government has said, after Tehran threatened to strike a Royal Air Force base used by US forces. In a statement on Thursday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened to attack RAF Fairford and made veiled threats against the “British monarchy regime”. The threat comes two days after Andy Burnham agreed to continue Sir Keir Starmer’s policy of allowing Washington to launch strikes on Iran from British bases.
