Kia Covers All Powertrain Bases: New Seltos, EV3 Debut at New York Auto Show

Whether you’re looking for a traditional combustion car, a hybrid or a full-electric vehicle, Kia has brought a little something for everyone to the 2026 New York Auto Show. On Wednesday, we saw the debut of the all-new 2027 Kia Seltos and Seltos HEV variant, as well as the North American debut of the all-electric 2027 Kia EV3 compact electric SUV, all expected to arrive later this year. The arrival of these small and, hopefully, inexpensive SUVs is a welcome sight at a time when many automakers are canceling their most affordable models and small EVs. The EV3 originally debuted in 2023 before going on sale first in Europe and South Korea in 2024. This year, drivers in the US finally get their turn in the driver’s seat of the subcompact electric SUV. The EV3 slots into the automaker’s North American EV lineup below the Kia EV6 — one of my favorite EVs on the road today — and will be powered by a 400-volt version of Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated E-GMP electric vehicle architecture. …

Iran Ambassador: Attacks On British Bases Being Considered

Iran Ambassador: Attacks On British Bases Being Considered

The Iranian ambassador to the UK has warned attacks on British bases are under consideration in an alarming intervention. Seyed Ali Mousavi claimed that Keir Starmer’s decision to allow US forces to use British sites for defensive and limited strikes could end up putting a target on the UK’s military. Speaking to Times Radio, he said: “The initial position made by the prime minister Starmer is very good. “We do appreciate, we do welcome the non-involvement in this criminal act of the American side and the Israeli regime. “But unfortunately, now we have realised that the British Fairford military base has been serving for the B-2 and B-1 jets of the American side to be equipped by the different weapons to use against the Iranian people. “It’s very unfortunate.” Asked if British bases and British military assets could be legitimate targets, he replied: “This is the very important matter we are considering. This is a very important matter for our self-defence.” He claimed the military section of their “system” will decide depending on UK “activities”. …

Starmer Slammed After Trump Allowed To Expand Use Of RAF Bases To Bomb Iran

Keir Starmer has been criticised after giving the US the green light to expand their use of RAF bases to bomb Iran. Downing Street announced that American jets will be allowed to use British bases to strike sites targeting the Strait of Hormuz. It marks a significant shift in the government’s approach to the UK’s involvement in the war. Starmer initially refused Donald Trump’s request to use RAF bases to bomb Iran at the start of the war. However, the prime minister then decided to allow them to launch “defensive” missions against missile launch sites. A Downing Street spokesman said those attacks can now be expanded as part of efforts to re-open the Strait of Hormuz, which carries around one-fifth of the global oil supply. Its closure due to attacks by Iran on oil tankers has sent the price of oil soaring and sparked fears of a global economic crisis. The No.10 spokesman said: ”[Ministers] confirmed that the agreement for the US to use UK bases in the collective self-defence of the region includes US …

UK allows US to use bases to bomb Iranian sites targeting ships in Strait of Hormuz – POLITICO

The spokesperson said the U.K. is still working with partners to develop “a viable plan” to safeguard shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Details on any proposals have been scant so far. Since the beginning of the Iran conflict, Starmer has been keen to stress the U.K. is on its own path, one not dictated by the U.S. This is the first time the U.K. has confirmed that U.S. bombers can use two British bases to hit Iranian missile sites that are targeting commercial shipping in the Strait. Previously Britain had said the U.S. could use its bases to target Iranian missile sites that were attacking the U.K.’s allies in the Gulf, without citing commercial shipping. Downing Street officials insisted on Friday night that defending shipping falls within the existing remit for cooperation with the U.S. that Starmer agreed on March 1. The prime minister has repeatedly called this remit “specific and limited” and stressed it is only for a “defensive” purpose. The two British bases being used by American bombers are RAF Fairford in …

Cyprus demands talks on Britain’s ‘colonial’ military bases

Cyprus demands talks on Britain’s ‘colonial’ military bases

Cyprus will demand negotiations about the future of Britain’s “colonial” military bases on the island, its president has said. Nikos Christodoulides said that when the US-Iran war was over, he wanted an “open and frank discussion” with Sir Keir Starmer about RAF Akrotiri on the south coast and Dhekelia in the east of the island. Debate about the status of the two sovereign bases has been reignited by the US-Israeli military campaign against Iran. Britain has faced questions about whether its forces are capable of protecting the two facilities after a drone strike hit a hangar used to house two US U-2 spy planes at Akrotiri. The Navy eventually dispatched HMS Dragon, a Type 45 destroyer, to protect the island, but was beaten there by the French, which had also offered to defend its European Union (EU) ally. Arriving at a summit of EU leaders on Thursday, Mr Christodoulides told reporters: “When this unfortunate situation in Cyprus is over, we need to have an open and frank discussion with the British government with regard to …

Inclusion bases must remove a students’ barriers to learning

Inclusion bases must remove a students’ barriers to learning

To be more than just a room, secondary school inclusion bases should be designed with a clear purpose to aid reintegration, says Arti Sharma  The expectation that every secondary school should have an inclusion base marks a significant shift in how we think about supporting vulnerable learners. The government’s ambition is clear: fewer exclusions, stronger mainstream inclusion and better support for pupils with additional needs. But a room is not a strategy. If inclusion bases are to make a meaningful difference, we must move beyond the idea that simply designating a space will solve deep-rooted challenges. Done well, these bases can be transformational. Done poorly, they risk becoming holding rooms – places where pupils are parked rather than supported. At nurtureuk, we have spent more than 50 years championing and developing nurture groups – the UK’s original inclusion-focused intervention. Decades of frontline experience have taught us a great deal about what makes such provision succeed, and what causes it to falter. Underlying needs First, purpose must come before provision. An effective inclusion base is not …
