WASHINGTON: US military officials said a man died in a lethal kinetic strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Tuesday (Jun 16) as Washington continues its campaign against alleged drug traffickers. The strike was part of military operation “Southern Spear”, launched last September as President Donald Trump insists the United States is effectively at war with drug cartels operating out of Latin America. “Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations,” US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said in a post on X. Two men were also reported to have survived the strike, and the US Coast Guard launched search and rescue operations to find the survivors, according to SOUTHCOM. Emergency services have rescued 77 migrants off the coast of a Spanish island on Sunday (14 June). The migrants, who were traveling aboard an inflatable boat, were located about 44 miles northeast of Lanzarote at around 2.30pm, according to Spanish emergency services. The Spanish coastguard said there were 77 people on board the vessel, including six women and three minors. This comes after Pope Leo XIV called for an “examination of conscience” on migration earlier this week during a visit to the port of Arguineguín in Spain’s Canary Islands. The Pope, who visited the islands from 6 June to 12 June, said :“It is not enough to manage arrivals, distribute figures, reinforce borders, or mourn the dead once they have already died,” as he visited the site. The former child actor, now 60, appeared on two episodes of the 10-season sitcom, which followed the adventures of crew members aboard the Pacific Princess cruise ship and a rotating cast of passengers all dealing with different relationship dilemmas. The series ran from 1977 to 1986. Labyorteaux was 13 when he played Bobby Trymon in a 1979 episode, and 16 when he returned to the series in 1981 as Todd Andrews.
