One killed in US boat strike in eastern Pacific Ocean

WASHINGTON: US military officials said a man died in a lethal kinetic strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean on Tuesday (Jun 16) as Washington continues its campaign against alleged drug traffickers. The strike was part of military operation “Southern Spear”, launched last September as President Donald Trump insists the United States is effectively at war with drug cartels operating out of Latin America. “Intelligence confirmed the vessel was transiting along known narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations,” US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said in a post on X. Two men were also reported to have survived the strike, and the US Coast Guard launched search and rescue operations to find the survivors, according to SOUTHCOM. More than 200 people have been killed as part of “Southern Spear” strikes in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean, according to a tally by AFP. Legal experts and rights groups say the strikes could amount to extrajudicial killings because they have apparently targeted civilians who do not pose an immediate …

77 migrants ‘rescued from an inflatable boat’ northeast of Lanzarote | World | News

Emergency services have rescued 77 migrants off the coast of a Spanish island on Sunday (14 June). The migrants, who were traveling aboard an inflatable boat, were located about 44 miles northeast of Lanzarote at around 2.30pm, according to Spanish emergency services. The Spanish coastguard said there were 77 people on board the vessel, including six women and three minors. This comes after Pope Leo XIV called for an “examination of conscience” on migration earlier this week during a visit to the port of Arguineguín in Spain’s Canary Islands. The Pope, who visited the islands from 6 June to 12 June, said :“It is not enough to manage arrivals, distribute figures, reinforce borders, or mourn the dead once they have already died,” as he visited the site. He also said: “Human dignity requires legal and safe routes, rescue and assistance, real cooperation against traffickers, effective protection for victims, serious processes of welcome and integration, and policies that allow each person to live with dignity in his or her own land.” EWTN Vatican.com said that “according …

What the Empty Boat Theory Gets Wrong About Anger

What the Empty Boat Theory Gets Wrong About Anger

Some principles of psychology are not at all new ideas. Eastern philosophies sometimes conveyed similar notions centuries earlier. But without science at the time to collect data on an idea or its implications, an ancient parable may have limits in describing the human condition. An old Daoist parable I’ve seen more and more is the “empty boat theory.” In reels, shorts, and brief expositions, many content creators or self-help influencers have drawn on the parable’s power in trying to help individuals find peace and even to cure road rage (Siddharth M, 2026). Among different tellings, you’re in a boat on a river in the fog when another boat collides with yours. You get angry but then realize that the other boat is empty—there’s no one steering it—and the anger vanishes. The boat must’ve broken free from its dock. The general idea is that we can’t get angry because there is no one to get angry at. As conveyed by New York Times bestselling author Sahil Bloom, “After all, you cannot be angry at an empty …

Starmer crony claims Tories and Reform would ‘let small boat migrants drown’ | Politics | News

Lord Hermer attacked the Tories’ and Reform’s migration policy (Image: BBC) Reform and the Conservatives would let migrants “drown in the water”, Labour’s Attorney General has claimed. Lord Hermer claimed Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch’s parties would not take a “British” approach to the Channel migrant crisis. He also suggested Labour’s plan was “starting to be pretty effective in dealing with small boats”. But the Tories hit back calling his comments a “disgraceful slur”. Speaking to the BBC’s Political Thinking podcast, Lord Hermer questioned what the two parties would do instead, to which the host Nick Robinson said: “They say they’d round people up on the beaches and send them somewhere else.” Lord Hermer replied: “I think what they mean by that is they let people drown in the water. And that is not a British way to deal with it. That is not commensurate with our values. “The way to deal with it is the way that we’ve been dealing with it, and we’re going to carry rolling out further agreements, which is co-operation …

Timberland’s Beefed-Up Boat Shoes Go Beyond the Yacht Club

Timberland’s Beefed-Up Boat Shoes Go Beyond the Yacht Club

It’s probably not news to you that boat shoes have been enjoying a moment. Worried lacing up a pair will mark you as a sailor—or, worse yet, a finance guy en route to a Nantucket bachelor party? Don’t be: these Timberland boat shoes have weathered significantly worse than mere stolen valor accusations, and they happen to be the perfect gateway (or, uh, marina) to the genre. If that name doesn’t ring any bells, it might be because it’s new: for years, Timberland simply called silhouette the Three-Eye Lug Sole Shoe, until the brand wisely leaned into the rising nautical-style tide. Smart move. With its handsewn moc-toe upper and 360-eyelet lacing system, it looks every bit the classic boat shoe. Except, that is, for its beefy lug sole, a savvy addition that takes the silhouette from preppy to damn-near-punk in the time it takes for you to clock it. You can still rock a pair with chinos and a polo, but that telltale sole means they’ll take just as well to baggy jeans and a hoodie, …

The series ran from 1977 to 1986. Labyorteaux was 13 when he played Bobby Trymon in a 1979 episode, and 16 when he returned to the series in 1981 as Todd Andrews. Recalling his brief time on the show during a recent episode of his The Patrick LabyorSheaux podcast, the actor admitted that “unfortunately, the second episode [was] probably one of the worst experiences that I’ve ever had on a TV show.” He remembered at the time being “fascinated by all the stuff they did …
