The British-American star, 19, leads Amazon’s Prime Video’s latest young adult romance series as college music major Hannah Wells, who begins a fake relationship with her school’s star hockey player, Garrett Graham — played by 28-year-old Belmont Cameli — in an attempt to make her crush jealous. Bright was 18 at the start of filming, and is the youngest of the main cast members. Appearing on a recent episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the Malory Towers alum acknowledged fan concerns about the significant nine-year age gap between her and Cameli, but insisted that “not once did I feel, one, left out from being younger than everybody.” “We’re all such a family and everyone was …

Fenix, London W1: ‘Big, bright, brash, dumbed down, shameless and open to all’ – restaurant review | Food

Fenix, a new Greek restaurant on Piccadilly in Mayfair, is very much part of what I’m calling the “maximalist” group of modern openings. See also Lilibet’s and Simpson’s-in-the-Strand. Financial downturn? Never heard of her. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. While restaurateurs are all over the media turning out their empty pockets and pleading poverty, this new offshoot of a Manchester institution casually throws down another Sims-style pleasure palace. The photographs of the sumptuously ornate, Athenian-influenced interior can’t be real, surely? Well, it turns out they are. As you leave six lanes of moving traffic behind you and enter Fenix, eureka! You’re suddenly in a cross between an Aegean god’s haven and the White Company’s bedding department. Why am I surprised? After all, the place is run by the people who opened Tattu, the six-strong chain of equally flamboyant Chinese restaurants owned by brothers Adam and Drew Jones of the Permanently Unique group. Kitsch, chaotic and turning a tidy profit, they are …

‘Off Campus’ Star Ella Bright on Her Age Gap With Costar Belmont Cameli, Playing Dress-Up, and Taking a Leap of Faith

‘Off Campus’ Star Ella Bright on Her Age Gap With Costar Belmont Cameli, Playing Dress-Up, and Taking a Leap of Faith

Those who have watched the rise of both shows, however, might see more parallels than that between the two. Both Heated Rivalry and Off Campus are romances that started off under the radar before becoming instant sensations, catapulting their stars to a new level of celebrity. Much like Heated Rivalry leads Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, Bright had no idea that being on this show would change her life overnight. If her Off Campus audition hadn’t worked out, she says, she would have pivoted away from acting, focusing instead on going to college and putting her leading lady dreams on the back burner. But a few weeks after that fateful tryout, she was flying to Vancouver to shoot the series. She calls it a leap of faith. “None of this was in my plan at all,” she says. “It flipped my life upside down in the best way I could have ever dreamed about. Things are coming true for me that…I never thought could happen.” Bright’s relationship with her character, Hannah, evolved over the course …

Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst on ‘Wide Awake,’ mental health and Bob Dylan

Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst on ‘Wide Awake,’ mental health and Bob Dylan

Conor Oberst was still a boyish 24-year-old from Omaha when he dropped the pair of albums that took his band Bright Eyes from indie-rock celebrity to voice-of-a-generation prestige. Released on the same day in January 2005, “I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning” and “Digital Ash in a Digital Urn” pondered love, war, drugs and technology against the backdrop of Oberst’s recent move to New York — and did it in songs that put frayed-edge folk (on “Wide Awake”) next to sleek electronic pop (on “Digital Ash”). Two decades later, hints of gray streaked the singer-songwriter’s hair as he sat at a picnic table in Lake Hollywood Park on a mid-April afternoon. Oberst, now 46, splits his time these days between Omaha and Los Angeles; here, he’s cultivated a circle of friends that includes Phoebe Bridgers, with whom he’s recorded under the name Better Oblivion Community Center, and the musician and producer Jonathan Wilson, to whom he once rented his house. But Oberst is looking back to his New York City era for a string of concerts …

Ella Bright on Hockey Romance Series ‘Off Campus’

Ella Bright on Hockey Romance Series ‘Off Campus’

Ella Bright had all but prepared herself for a normal college experience. After spending her adolescence on the British children’s series Malory Towers, the London teen found herself at a crossroads. Should she keep acting or take some time to focus on passing her A-level exams and the prospect of college? Bright decided she’d go on a few auditions before taking her break, with a new Prime Video romance series, Off Campus, being the last. The then-18-year-old was reading for the lead character, college music student Hannah Wells. She never managed to take that break. “I did the audition, I got the part in this whirlwind month process,” Bright tells The Hollywood Reporter on a Zoom ahead of the show’s premiere. “It was like, OK, we only got two A-levels [done], and I’m not going to college anymore. Here we go.” She adds, “It was just a really daunting experience, but I just feel like I went with it full force because this was just a dream come true for me in so many ways.” …

Remarkably Bright Creatures Reviews: Critics Praise Sally Field’s Performance

Remarkably Bright Creatures Reviews: Critics Praise Sally Field’s Performance

Netflix has gone and done the seemingly impossible, and adapted Remarkably Bright Creatures for the screen. Shelby Van Pelt’s novel became a bestseller upon its release in 2022, telling the story of a lonely widow who befriends an octopus in the aquarium where she works. As the story unfolds, she and the octopus, named Marcellus, team up to solve the mystery of her son’s murder, with certain passages even told from the marine creature’s perspective. Because of its unique premise, bringing the story to life in film was always going to be a difficult task, but on Friday morning, Netflix unveiled its new movie version of the hit book, starring two-time Oscar winner Sally Field alongside Lewis Pullman and the voice of Alfred Molina as Marcellus. The question is… how did they do? Well, overall, critical reception has been pretty mixed, but one thing reviews can agree on is a stellar performance from Sally Field, as well as the fact that anyone looking for some cosy comfort viewing is onto a winner with this one. …
