The Knicks point guard hit a corner 3-pointer to give them the lead, and then moments later, he hit a falling-down jump shot to ice the game. That’s why they call him Captain Clutch. We break down Brunson’s heroics below, and Mexico’s teenage sensation Gilberto Mora is today’s World Cup spotlight. For more NBA and World Cup coverage, check out the NBC News website. NBA Finals One of the most common refrains used to describe the NBA playoffs is that the game slows down. Not necessarily that the basketball becomes easier, but each minute is so tense, both teams are so focused and each possession is so tight that the winner is often decided by which team — or player — can …

Janine-Gregory Breakup Explained by Quinta Brunson

[This article contains spoilers from episode 19 of season five of Abbott Elementary] Last Wednesday’s “April Fools” episode of Abbott Elementary was all fun and (stressful) pranks, but this week, there were noticeably fewer laughs between everyone’s favorite teacher couple at the school. Episode 19 of season five began with Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and Janine (Quinta Brunson) attempting to plan their first couple’s trip after moving in together earlier in the season, but differences over their individual philosophies around money and time quickly turned the process from pleasant to painstaking, with Gregory wanting to book an Airbnb and make an eight-hour trek in a car to the Outer Banks to save money and Janine preferring direct flights, a hotel and spa treatments. The pair initially decide to change their vacation destination to Atlantic City as a happy medium, but Janine later approaches Gregory during the workday with a compromise she deems “a bit more compromise-y,” telling him she went ahead and bought their flights to the Outer Banks herself since money was the issue. …

How Quinta Brunson Finds Her Balance

Brunson said the Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, are a personal favorite.Emma Beiles Howie But she’s also aware that viewers find comfort in the characters after getting to know them over the years, especially with as many as 22 episodes a season. “I think with the sitcom, it’s a balance of giving people the quirks and the funny parts of the characters’ personalities that audiences come for, right? People are coming to the TV on Wednesday night to see the people they know and know the people they see,” she said. “And it can be easy to want to rest in those quirks and the comedic beats that people are counting for, and you want to. You don’t want to abandon those. But in our show, there’s emphasis on the characters growing and changing.” Her character, Janine, has certainly grown throughout the show. “She was previously a very naive, very optimistic character, and now she knows a little bit more,” Brunson says. “She knows a lot more.” Brunson has evolved too. “It’s …

Jalen Brunson Brought Winning Back to New York

Jalen Brunson Brought Winning Back to New York

“You’re a hell of a player,” a man says in passing. Standing at six feet two with a low, compact build, Brunson arrives in a weekend uniform: sky-blue Nike hoodie with Ray-Bans dangling from the collar, black sweatpants, and a matching beanie pulled low over his rounded head. Even with generational wealth and a place on the city’s A-list, the 29-year-old Brunson insists, convincingly, that he has not shed the no-frills mantle of an Everyman. “It’s not like my lifestyle is different,” he says. “You see where I came to meet you. I’m a regular guy who goes to a local coffee shop to grab tea or coffee or whatever. It doesn’t change the way I live.” As he speaks, Brunson glances briefly at his phone. He has missed a call from Josh Hart, his former college teammate and closest friend on the Knicks. Off the court, the two host a podcast, Roommates Show, a fairly standard athlete-led gabfest, featuring interviews with teammates, coaches, and other NBA figures. Brunson guesses the call was about a …
