Half of us need to brush up on their football knowledge before this su | UK | News

It’s the final countdown as Brits gear up for a summer of world-class football. But despite our love of the beautiful game, the truth is many of us are just along for the ride – with 60% admitting they’re fair-weather fans, and 48% confessing they feel “out of their depth” when the football chat kicks off. New research by Asda reveals that 28% don’t feel confident joining in the conversation, while 46% worry about saying the wrong thing in front of more knowledgeable fans. Yet that doesn’t stop us wanting in on the action, with 74% saying they still enjoy the big moments – even if they don’t fully understand what’s going on. And when it comes to keeping up appearances, many are resorting to a bit of blagging, with 15% pretending they know the rules when they don’t, and 14% confessing to googling things mid-conversation. This summer Asda has signed up former England star Chris Kamara and former Scotland striker Kris Boyd to help teach fans the basics. Swapping the studio for the supermarket …

Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and executive produced by Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, the new sci-fi series stars Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, Alfred Molina, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters and Alfre Woodard as a group of misfit retirement community residents who must band together to uncover a dark secret that proves their “golden years” are more perilous than anyone could have expected. The eight-episode debut, released Thursday, already has a 95 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is similarly being hailed on X by many as “intriguing,” yet described by others as “an oldies version of Stranger Things.” “The Boroughs is basically geriatric Stranger Things,” one person posted on X, while a second agreed that it’s “giving Stranger Things a …

Why Runners Should Brush Their Teeth After A Long Run

Why Runners Should Brush Their Teeth After A Long Run

In 2026′s Tokyo marathon, runner and teacher Annie Tran said the secret to her speedy finish was a disposable toothbrush. “Every runner knows that mile 20 is where we have to dig deep and find what little energy we have left. After brushing my teeth, I felt revived and refreshed,” she said on Instagram. That’s one way of getting past “the wall”. But whether you’re running a marathon or not, runner Katy Laser pointed out an issue dentists say could be common among distance joggers – and might even be mitigated by a post-run brush. How might running affect your teeth? Despite not eating much sugar or drinking many fizzy beverages, Katy said in a viral TikTok that her dentist called her out on some issues, which she later attributed to gel packs. “In addition to [gels] being little packs of sugar… that are very sticky… your mouth gets drier when you run,” she explained. “It is just sticking to your teeth in a ‘desert mouth’… running gels are essentially the perfect storm of cavities”. …

How to Clean Your Vinyl Records (2026): Vacuum, Ultrasonic, Solution, Brush

How to Clean Your Vinyl Records (2026): Vacuum, Ultrasonic, Solution, Brush

With the ultrasonic cleaning machine, you don’t need to vacuum out the grime for each record you clean, because the machine shakes all the gunk off for you. It collects at the bottom of the basin, so you just need to make sure it all gets dumped out when you empty the liquid from the machine between uses. Once your records have taken their bath in the diluted cleaning solution mixture, place them on the drying rack. If a record (or, more realistically, stack of records) is especially dirty, I clean them two times with either method in progressively cleaner fluid. In my ultrasonic machine, I do all my records once, then change the fluid and do them again. Be sure to have a clean microfiber towel ($5) handy so that the record is fully dry before returning it to its packaging. Some people prefer to also rinse the clean records in distilled water at the end of the cleaning cycle to remove any remaining solution. If you do that, just dry them the same …

8 Subtle Body Changes Women In Their 50s And 60s Often Brush Off, But Are Actually Signs Of Depression | Paula-Jo (PJ) Husack

Women in the United States are twice as likely to have depression as men. In fact, depression strikes 1 in 4 girls by the time they reach 14. For women in Australia and South Africa, the number is up to 40 percent. As we age, depression often goes undiagnosed because the physical symptoms — which are a part of depression — get separated by doctor and patient. Physical symptoms of depression that show in contrasting styles in women: They have high energy and are super-productive. Involved in everything simultaneously, emotional, colleagues think they’re controlling, and are extroverted. It looks like they’re too excited to be depressed … but they are. They move more slowly, are chill, speak less, and do less. The day is just a day, nothing special. Even their kids’ art or a pay increase brings little joy. Colleagues think they’re introverts. Nope, it’s depression. Neither personality types are connected with their true emotions, which is different than being “emotional.” However, both have physical symptoms that hurt. Many women have learned to code negative emotions by describing our physical states …

AI can’t wield a paint brush, but it did help me transform my home | Life and style

AI can’t wield a paint brush, but it did help me transform my home | Life and style

Sometimes, when the hose of my vacuum cleaner knocks over a potted plant, adding a layer of drudgery to an already miserable chore, I feel ground down by domesticity. Futurity once promised us robot butlers. What happened? The despair led me to this week’s quest. Can AI actually transform my day-to-day existence? DIY has, historically, been my blind spot. I’m messy and lazy, and as a practising Buddhist, when things break down in my home, I simply accept it. For instance, there is a milk stain trapped between the glass panes of my oven door, which has been there for three years. “Why don’t you clean it?” asks the AI, which I think is meant to be a rousing challenge, but comes across as disgust. The AI walks me through unlatching the slatted door top, and sliding out the glass. The milk wipes clean in seconds. It feels like a moment of religion conversion. How was I living before? I can feel the energy of the zealot entering me. The inner pane, I notice, is …
