Liu Bin, the Chinese archaeologist widely known for his work at the ancient city at Liangzhu, the so-called Venice of the Stone Age, pleaded guilty on May 20 to charges of taking bribes and embezzling research funds, Caixin Global reports. In the trial, which took place at Suichang County People’s Court in Zhejiang Province, Liu was accused of accepting more than 4.65 million yuan (about $690,000) in bribes and embezzling 300,000 yuan (about $45,000) from a research project related to the civilization at Liangzhu, reports Caixin, noting that he was detained by the authorities in December 2025 and arrested in February. Related Articles No penalty has been announced. After studying archaeology at Jilin University, Liu joined the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology in 1985, later becoming deputy director and then director. Australian woman held in custody on charges of traveling to Syria to join Islamic State group

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — An Australian mother of four was held in custody after she appeared in a court on Thursday charged with traveling to Syria and joining the Islamic State group. Rayann El Houli, 34, was arrested at her Melbourne home eight months after she returned to Australia via Lebanon with her children and another woman, police and her lawyer said. The arrest came two days after seven women and 12 children linked to IS returned to Australia from a Syrian refugee camp against the wishes of the Australian government. Three weeks ago, four women and nine children in similar circumstances returned from the same Roj camp for displaced people, which is located near the area where the frontiers of Syria, Turkey and Iraq converge. Three of the four women were charged on arrival with slavery and terrorism offenses and remain in custody. All the women who returned from Syria this month remained under police investigation. Another woman, who accompanied El Houli to Australia from Lebanon, also was under investigation, Australia Federal Police Deputy …

NBA Player Terry Rozier Hit With New Bribery Charges in Sports Gambling Sting

NBA Player Terry Rozier Hit With New Bribery Charges in Sports Gambling Sting

Federal prosecutors have indicted ex-Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier on additional charges in connection with a sports gambling sting, alleging he took a hefty bribe to exit a game early in March 2023. Rozier, 32, was charged Thursday in a superseding indictment in Brooklyn federal court with bribery in sporting contests and honest services wire fraud conspiracy. Superseding indictments are used when prosecutors want to change or add new charges to an existing criminal case. Rozier has denied participating in the gambling scheme, and has been fighting to have the case dismissed after pleading not guilty to wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy charges in December. His attorneys argue in part that the government’s theory of the case — that he prevented sportsbooks from making informed decisions about accepting certain bets — runs afoul of a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that narrowed the federal wire fraud statute. The new indictment “just confirms that our motion to dismiss was righteous — new charges, new theories, but all just an effort to make something stick,” …

There’s a new low-cost e-bike that charges by USB-C

There’s a new low-cost e-bike that charges by USB-C

ENGWE is best known for chunky folding fat tire e-bikes and budget-friendly commuter models, but the company is now taking a decidedly more refined turn with the launch of its new ENGWE Zip compact folding e-bike. It’s got a lot of interesting angles, but the most eyebrow-raising might just be the USB-C charging battery that powers the bike, allowing riders to charge it with a standard laptop charger. The new ENGWE Zip is designed around portability first and foremost, with the company emphasizing its compact folded size, lightweight build, and rapid 3-second folding mechanism. At just 16.9 kg (37 lb) without the battery or closer to 19 kg (42 lb) with the battery installed, the Zip is dramatically lighter than many of the heavy folding e-bikes that have flooded the market in recent years. That lightweight design appears to be the main selling point here. ENGWE says the bike folds down to roughly “20-inch luggage size” dimensions, making it easier to carry into apartments, onto elevators, onto trains, or stash under a desk at work. …

Michele Spagnuolo, 36, an Italian citizen who lives in Switzerland, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with commodities fraud, wire fraud, money laundering and other counts for allegedly placing bets on search trends based on internal Google data that tracked user searches. “Unlike the counterparties to his trades, Spagnuolo knew the outcome of these wagers before the trading public did because he had accessed Google’s confidential, commercially valuable internal data,” according to the federal indictment, which authorities unsealed on Wednesday. Prosecutors say Spagnuolo, operating under the username AlphaRaccoon, placed a number of wagers on Google’s most-searched person of 2025. He bet nearly $1 million that Kanye West’s wife, Bianca Censori, would …

Federal Judge Drops Charges Against Ex-Fox Executive in Soccer Corruption Case

Federal Judge Drops Charges Against Ex-Fox Executive in Soccer Corruption Case

NEW YORK (AP) — A federal judge dismissed charges against a convicted former Fox television executive Wednesday after a prosecutor said charges brought in a U.S.-led effort to battle corruption in international soccer “doesn’t fit within” the priorities of the Trump administration. Judge Pamela K. Chen accepted the explanation provided by U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. about why the government wanted to dismiss the indictment against Hernan Lopez. A smiling Lopez, the former CEO of Fox International Channels, later left the Brooklyn federal courthouse, telling reporters he was relieved that “a case that never should have started is finally over.” Nocella told Chen that the administration preferred to focus on domestic and foreign terrorist organizations, national security, narcotics trafficking, human trafficking and violent gangs. The judge said Nocella’s stated reason, along with an explanation in a written document submitted to the court, “does provide sufficient justification” to accept the request to dismiss the indictment. Lopez and Full Play Group SA, a South American sports media company, were convicted in 2023 of paying tens of millions …
