Kuwait closes airspace, Israel warns of launches from Lebanon after U.S strikes in Iran

Kuwait closed its airspace Thursday local time due to “Iranian aggressions” as it intercepted “hostile aerial targets,” following U.S. strikes against Tehran. Israel’s Home Front Command also warned of launches from Lebanon toward several communities in northern Israel. Iran “struck and destroyed eighteen important targets” belonging to U.S. forces at Kuwait’s Ali Salem and Ahmad al-Jaber air bases, as well as the Sheikh Issa air base in Bahrain, according to the state run Tasnim news agency. The media adviser to Bahrain’s king said the country’s air defense systems had intercepted and destroyed “Iranian aerial attacks.” Earlier in the day, Bahrain’s interior ministry had urged civilians to head to a safe place. The escalation follows U.S. attack on multiple targets in Iran Wednesday stateside at President Donald Trump’s direction, following “Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression.” Centcom said strikes were completed at 9:04 p.m. ET Wednesday, adding it hit Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites. Centre for Disaster Protection closes disaster preparedness gap

Centre for Disaster Protection closes disaster preparedness gap

Conor Meenan, Head of Labs at the Centre for Disaster Protection, discusses how innovation can help governments move from reacting to disasters to preparing for them before they strike. The cost, complexity, and frequency of climate and disaster impacts are on the rise. But the systems that many countries’ governments rely on were not built for planning and responding to these, or are struggling to keep up. The gap is widening fastest where risks are highest. Despite being able to anticipate future shocks, disaster planning and financing systems still too often treat disasters like surprises. Most money is arranged in the heat of the crisis – emergency budget allocations, borrowing, and unpredictable support from the international system. These responses are not only unreliable and inefficient, they can also be harmful. Funds raided from health, education, and social protection budgets carry consequences that extend well beyond the disaster itself. The case for pre-arranging financing Some countries are starting to choose a different path. By arranging financing in advance of a storm on the horizon, they can …

Uganda Closes Border with Congo Over Ebola Fears

new video loaded: Uganda Closes Border with Congo Over Ebola Fears transcript Back transcript Uganda Closes Border with Congo Over Ebola Fears Uganda closed its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo over growing concerns about the possible spread of Ebola on Wednesday. Seven confirmed cases have been reported in the Ugandan capital. “The only exceptions are for authorized Ebola response teams, the humanitarian operations, food and cargo transportation and security.” “I feel like they should put bans on people coming in from those highly infectious areas. Why should someone coming from Congo still be coming unless if they have really, screened them and they have tested them and they have free? But at least they should still limit people coming in from those highly infectious areas.” “I am not scared about Ebola virus. Fast forward, it’s not the first time it’s happening. It’s happened before. We’ve seen other cases like Covid come before. But personally, I trust the Ministry of Health.” Uganda closed its border with the Democratic Republic of Congo over growing concerns …

UK high street giant closes store in seaside town | UK | News

The shop has closed for good (Image: Getty) A UK seaside town has waved goodbye to a popular shop, with locals now fearing the worst for the area. The fashion retailer, which operates around 200 shops across the UK and Ireland, closed the store for good on Wednesday (May 27). The closure of River Island in Llandudno, Wales, has left shoppers “gutted”. Some have blamed the rise of online shopping for the closure, while other have pointed towards increasing costs for businesses. Posters were put on the front windows of the shop at Parc Llandudno, reading: “This store is closing. Wednesday, May 27. Thanks for shopping with us – we’ve had a blast. You can still shop the latest trends at riverisland.com and nearby locations. With love, Ri x.” The store in Llandudno was not among the 33 closures announced by River Island earlier this year. The wider closures comes part of a restructuring and cost-cutting plan following multi-million pound losses. Huge fight erupts on UK beach as feral youths attack police and force families …

Sadiq Khan rules out Burnham-style return to Westminster as window to exploit MP loophole closes

Sadiq Khan rules out Burnham-style return to Westminster as window to exploit MP loophole closes

The Mayor of London has ruled out following his Greater Manchester counterpart’s example in running for a seat in Westminster. Sir Sadiq Khan’s office definitely rejected any notion that he would return to his former life as an MP in the capital. Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, will need to step down from his role if he wins the Makerfield by-election. The Boris loophole But there is currently no restriction on the Mayor of London from exploiting a legislative loophole which would also allow him to sit on the House of Commons benches. Towards the end of his time in City Hall, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson sat as an MP for an entire year after winning the Uxbridge and South Ruislip by-election in 2015. Boris Johnson sat as both an MP and Mayor of London for a year This is because the Greater London Authority Act 1999 does not ban sitting MPs from also holding the office of Mayor of London – or vice versa. However, two decades on, this loophole is …

LangSmith Engine closes the agent debugging loop automatically — but multi-model enterprises still need a neutral layer

LangSmith Engine closes the agent debugging loop automatically — but multi-model enterprises still need a neutral layer

Enterprises building and deploying agents have a problem: it’s taking their engineers too long to find out that an agent made a mistake, and the loop has continued to perpetuate, especially without a human at every step.  LangSmith, the monitoring and evaluation platform from LangChain, launched a new capability in public beta that could make that issue more manageable. LangSmith Engine automates the entire chain by detecting production failures, diagnosing root causes against the live codebase, drafting a fix and preventing regression. It does this in a single automated pass.  LangSmith Engine gives AI engineers a faster path to triage, but it launches into a crowded field: Anthropic, OpenAI and Google are all pulling observability and evaluation into their own platforms. LangSmith Engine looks at failures LangChain said in a blog post that the typical agent development cycle starts by tracing the agent to understand what it’s doing, followed by identifying gaps, making changes to the prompts and tools, and creating ground-truth datasets. Developers then run experiments and check for regressions before shipping the agent.  …
