Forbes expands into retail with Wine Club launch

Forbes Wine imagery. Picture: Forbes Forbes is making its “first foray” into having a fully owned-and-operated e-commerce site with the launch of a dedicated wine section and shop. Forbes Wine will launch this year with more relevant content to support a subscription-based quarterly wine club and online shop plus a reviews and ratings programme. The business-focused newsbrand has seen a significant drop in traffic over the past year, largely as a result of Google’s AI summaries at the top of search results often stopping users from clicking through to publisher websites. Forbes CEO Sherry Phillips told Press Gazette in November the publisher was instead focusing on “getting back to those core communities and those businesses and our editorial journalism that we take pride in and protect. And so how do we look at that in new revenue models?” Echoing this idea, senior vice president of consumer revenue and growth Emily Jackson told Press Gazette: “We know that this is not a scale game anymore. What we need is deeper relationships with those audiences.” Jackson said …

Welcome to Today in Books, our daily round-up of literary headlines at the intersection of politics, culture, media, and more. Oprah Winfrey Names Maria Semple’s Go Gentle as Her Latest Book Club Pick Go Gentle, Semple’s first book in many years, is certainly getting a lot of buzz, and this week, Oprah’s officially picked it as her latest book club title. “For all those who crave a good page turner, this is one wild ride of a story that carries equal parts wit and wisdom,” Winfrey said in a statement Tuesday. “I learned so much about Stoicism — I laughed out loud for real. And underneath the humor there was always something tender … a quiet truth about relationships, identity, and what it means to find peace with yourself.” In The Time of The Butterflies Graphic Novel Incoming It’s probably not accurate to call it a “trend,” but I have been really appreciating the increase in popular novels …

Sofa Club Review: Is This ‘Sofa In A Box’ Brand Worth The Hype?

Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication. There are many harsh realities we face as adults: cheese is actually really expensive; the worst person you know is probably being told by their therapist that they’re really reasonable; and that we are doomed to spend the rest of our lives forever trying to find the answer to ‘what’s for dinner?’. But one I didn’t anticipate is just how difficult it is to buy a sofa. I’ve spent the last six months renovating a 150 year old flat in Edinburgh and thanks to that being one endless stress, I officially only want to walk the path of least resistance where I can. Unfortunately the road to getting a sofa is full of potholes. …

Brighton’s red-hot form has club dreaming of return to European football

BURNLEY, England, April 11 : Brighton & Hove Albion’s 2-0 win at Burnley on Saturday was their fifth Premier League victory in six games, form that has seen them rapidly climb the table and leave their fans dreaming of a return to European football next season. A double from Mats Wieffer secured a victory that moves Brighton to ninth place in the table with 46 points from 32 matches and into the conversation for European places next season. At the final whistle, Brighton were three points off Liverpool in the last Champions League qualification place. They had won one of their previous 13 league games before their current run, form that had seen them nervously looking towards the bottom three. But instead they have now set their sights on European football, with as many as 11 English teams in UEFA competitions next season, though it would take a precise set of results for that number to qualify. Certainly top eight would have teams in the frame. “If we perform how we’re doing like the last …

Bath break Northampton hearts on one of European club rugby’s great nights

It would be doing Bath a massive disservice to suggest they were all route one as they demonstrated with their third try which was strike play perfection. The scrum was solid and Redpath felt Russell, who faked pumped once to draw a gap to send Henry Arundell scurrying under the posts. Then right on half-time came a try that both coaches identified as a key momentum shift as shortly after Smith missed a penalty to touch, replacement Francois van Wyk was driven over. Russell missed leaving the game tantalising poised at 35-26 to the visitors. After the madness of the first half, Smith took the first conservative decision of the game, by kicking a penalty in front of the posts. However, Saints were reduced to 14 men when JJ van der Mescht was sin-binned following repeated offences in the 22. Bath kicked to the corner and piled what seemed like half of Somerset into the maul with replacement Kepu Tuipulotu grounding the ball. Russell’s conversion made it a five-point game. Another Smith penalty gave Saints …

Legal Saga Between Artist Ryder Ripps and Bored Ape Yacht Club is Over

Legal Saga Between Artist Ryder Ripps and Bored Ape Yacht Club is Over

A long-running legal saga between Yuga Labs, the parent company of Bored Ape Yacht Club, and artist Ryder Ripps and his business partner Jeremy Cahen, has finally ended, with the parties reaching a settlement on Tuesday. While the terms of the settlement are confidential, the parties disclosed that they agreed to a permanent injunction against Ripps and Cahen using any trademarks or images owned by Yuga Labs. The lawsuit stemmed from Ripps’s quest, at the height of the NFT craze in 2022, to prove that the founders of Bored Ape Yacht Club had threaded their NFT series with racist imagery, pointing to the accessories the Apes wear, including Prussian helmets and safari hats, which Ripps contended were tied to alt-right culture. Further, he argued that the BAYC symbol of a white Ape skull resembled a Nazi Totenkopf emblem. Yuga Labs, for its part, repeatedly denied these claims, and emphasized the diverse backgrounds of its founders and primary funder, music mogul Guy Oseary. Liverpool boss Slot says club support strong as fans prepare Anfield protest

April 10 : Under-fire Liverpool boss Arne Slot said he feels “complete support” from the club and the fans on Friday, even as his team endures a torrid run of form and supporters plan protests over rising ticket prices. The Dutchman’s side have lost their last three matches across all competitions, crashing out of the FA Cup to Manchester City while they trail Paris St Germain 2-0 in their Champions League quarter-finals. With Liverpool clinging to fifth place in the Premier League – the final Champions League qualification spot – and Chelsea breathing down their necks one point behind, Saturday’s home clash with Fulham takes on added significance. Asked if he feels support from the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot told reporters the club’s sporting director Richard Hughes and chief executive Michael Edwards are behind him. “I’m repeating myself a lot but I feel a lot of support. Not only from the owners but from Richard and Michael… But as weird as it might sound, I also feel the support from the fans,” Slot told reporters. “We …

Book club skeptic? So was Roxane Gay, here’s what ultimately converted her

I was never much of a book club person. While I love reading, one of its greatest pleasures is the way I can immerse myself in the world of a good book, in solitude. Alone. Without any static from the world beyond the story. Book clubs would mean assigned reading, the opinions of others shaping my reading experience, having to socialize, the opposite of solitude. I briefly joined a book club of some work colleagues when I was teaching in rural Illinois, and it was fun, but most of our time was spent gossiping about, well, work. The books were rather secondary, or even tertiary. But I am also a writer, and while reading and writing generally happen in solitude, promoting your writing doesn’t. The first book club I attended as a writer was in Kalamazoo, Mich., where I was invited to a cheery brunch with a local book club while I was on tour for my debut novel, “An Untamed State.” The invitation came from my cousin’s mother-in-law, a vivacious, talkative Michigander who was …
