Feds Subpoena Hasan Piker, CodePink Cofounder Over “Humanitarian” Trip To Communist Cuba

Federal officials have issued “Requests for Information” via Treasury Department subpoenas to Turkish-American millionaire and far-left Twitch streamer Hasan Piker and pro-China CodePink cofounder Susan Medea Benjamin as part of a broader probe into whether the activists violated sanctions laws during a “humanitarian” trip to communist-run Cuba, according to a new Fox News report. Fox’s Asra Q. Nomani, who leads an investigation into dark-money funded NGOs, said the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control is examining whether the activists financed, coordinated, or delivered goods to Cuba in ways that crossed legal boundaries under U.S. sanctions. 🚨 The Treasury Department has subpoenaed Hasan Piker and Medea Benjamin as part of a probe into possible Cuba sanctions violations. Between Hasan’s “wads of cash” and Medea describing thousands of pounds of goods sent to Cuba, it is not hard to see why Treasury has questions. pic.twitter.com/WRhC5PMDmw — Stu Smith (@thestustustudio) May 24, 2026 Investigators are also examining whether the two met with Cuban government-linked personnel or entities. Expanding on Nomani’s report, a likely line of inquiry is …

China’s Communist Party investigates ex-Xinjiang leader Ma Xingrui : NPR

BANGKOK — The disciplinary body for China ‘s Communist Party said Friday it has placed the former Xinjiang party chief under investigation over suspected violations of discipline and law. Ma Xingrui is a member of the party’s Central Committee and served as party secretary of the Xinjiang region in China’s northwest from 2021-2025. He also previously served as director of the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and deputy party chief in Guangdong province. It was unclear what violations Ma allegedly committed. Ma is the latest senior official to be removed from power this year. China’s Xi Jinping removed the top general in charge of the country’s military in January. Ma was replaced by Chen Xiaojiang last July as party chief of Xinjiang, a region that had become well-known internationally for a yearslong campaign of extrajudicial detentions. China had detained a million or more minorities, including ethnic Uyghur Muslims, saying it was in response to a series of attacks by a small number of Uyghur extremists By 2021, when Ma had become secretary, China said it had …

Vietnam’s Communist Party secures nearly 97% of assembly seats

MANILA: Vietnam’s Communist Party won nearly 97 per cent of the 500 seats in the National Assembly, according to results released by the parliament on Mar 22, confirming its overwhelming dominance after a vote in which almost all candidates were fielded by the ruling party. The party’s 482-seat haul was roughly in line with the number it held in the outgoing parliament. Turnout at the five‑yearly elections for members of the parliament and for local councils exceeded 99 per cent, authorities have said, in line with past elections. The unicameral parliament has virtually no power to challenge the party’s key decisions, including on personnel, but it has occasionally amended proposed laws. The National Assembly is scheduled to hold its first weeks-long session from April 6. During that plenary, lawmakers are due to confirm new state leaders to be named by the party, including the prime minister and the president. To Lam, who was confirmed as general secretary at the party’s January congress, is widely expected to be chosen as president as well. Lam’s expected elevation would …

Communist Party fields nearly 93% of candidates as Vietnam holds parliament elections

HANOI: Tens of millions of Vietnamese go to the polls on Sunday (Mar 15) to elect 500 members of the National Assembly from a list of candidates almost exclusively fielded by the ruling Communist Party. The five-yearly elections, in which nearly 73.5 million registered voters will also choose representatives for local councils, are one of the few nods to democratic practice in the tightly controlled one-party state, where the most powerful positions are decided by Communist senior officials ahead of the vote. Nearly 93 per cent of the 864 candidates running for the national parliament are Communist Party members, while 7.5 per cent are independents, according to the national election council, down from 8.5 per cent in 2021, leaving no doubt the party will maintain its overwhelming dominance in the assembly. In the current legislature, the Communist Party, which has ruled the country unopposed for decades, holds 97 per cent of the seats. The parliament has virtually no power to challenge the party’s key decisions, including on personnel, but it has occasionally amended proposed laws. …

Frank Malina – fearless rocket engineer, groundbreaking artist and communist ‘traitor’

Frank Malina was a lot of things. The Texas-born aeronautical engineer co-designed the first jet-assisted take-off (Jato) rocket and the US’s first operational high-altitude rocket. He co-founded and became director of Nasa’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory – and along the way, joined a team of rocket engineers who became known as the “suicide squad” for their risk-taking approach. Malina was also a pacifist and anti-fascist, a card-carrying member of the Communist party, and a painter and pioneer in the field of kinetic art – where motion, be it mechanically or naturally produced, is critical to the artwork. His efforts to bridge science and technology with the creative arts led to him launching Leonardo, MIT press’s world-leading journal on the use of contemporary science and technology in the arts and music. This series is dedicated to little-known but highly influential scientists who have had a powerful influence on the careers and research paths of many others, including the authors of these articles. His exceptional approach leant a credibility to research at the intersection of art and technology, …
