I changed these hidden Google Maps settings and my commute feels completely different

Navigation apps are like politics—everyone has an opinion and everyone picks a side. Having tried almost every other app in existence, I have firmly settled on Google Maps, mostly because I like its features, interface, user interaction, and deep integration with the Google ecosystem. However, for the most part, I used Google Maps in default mode and never bothered to explore its settings fully. What I have since found lurking beneath is an impressive array of user features that have not only revolutionized my daily commute experience but have changed the way I vacation, plan routes, and interact with my devices. These small additions add up to make a big difference, and after adjusting just a handful of settings, my daily commute became smoother, less stressful, and even a bit more enjoyable. Iran says Hormuz Strait ‘completely open’; Trump says blockade ‘in full force’

Iran announced that the critical global shipping lane known as the Strait of Hormuz is “completely” open after being mostly closed since the war between the U.S. and Iran broke out earlier this year.  “In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period… Source link

Prince Harry admits to feeling ‘lost, betrayed’ and ‘completely powerless’ during emotive speech

Prince Harry has delivered one of his most emotionally candid speeches to date, revealing he has felt “lost, betrayed, or completely powerless” at various points throughout his life. The Duke of Sussex made the powerful admission during a keynote address at the InterEdge Summit in Melbourne, where he spoke on leadership, psychosocial safety and human connection in the workplace, with Meghan Markle watching from the audience. Standing on stage at the Centrepiece conference venue, Harry struck a deeply personal tone as he reflected on the emotional toll of life lived under intense public scrutiny. © Getty ImagesPrince Harry gave an emotional speech in Melbourne “When I was invited to speak at this summit, I wasn’t sure whether I was expected to speak as someone who, despite everything, has their s*** together,” he told attendees. “Or as someone who, despite what it may look like, actually doesn’t have his s*** together.” He continued: “But I was struck by something quite simple, that while my experiences may be unusual, the feelings that come with them are not.” In a …

The One Thing My Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis At Age 27 Taught Me About Conflict That Completely Changed My Marriage

The One Thing My Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis At Age 27 Taught Me About Conflict That Completely Changed My Marriage

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2012. I was 27, turning 28 a few weeks later at the time, and engaged to be married the following year. One minute I was an excited, expectant bride obsessing over mermaid vs. princess-cut gowns, and the next I was strapped to an IV with steroids pumping through my body to calm the inflammation in my optic nerve. After that, the changes happened almost overnight.  My eye, a victim of optic neuritis, went dark and blind. My body, strong from the steroids but weak once they wore off, became a stranger to me. I suddenly noticed the tremors in my hand and the way my leg would suddenly become numb in the morning.  What my multiple sclerosis diagnosis taught me about conflict completely changed my marriage Rapha Wilde / Unsplash My MS diagnosis meant one thing: I would have to take better care of myself if I wanted to survive. And I did. I started going to yoga to improve my balance. I started taking vitamins (hello, Vitamin D!) …

6 Rare Habits Of Men Who Avoid A Midlife Crisis And Don’t Completely Ruin Their Lives | Greg Boudle

6 Rare Habits Of Men Who Avoid A Midlife Crisis And Don’t Completely Ruin Their Lives | Greg Boudle

Midlife has a reputation for making men do impulsive, life-altering things: quitting stable jobs, and ruining perfectly good relationships in search of something more. But not everyone goes down that path.  Some men go through this phase with clarity, which is often the result of a few habits that keep them tethered to real life.  Here are the six rare habits of men who avoid a midlife crisis and don’t completely ruin their lives: 1. Men who avoid a midlife crisis regularly practice mindfulness Mindfulness is the first step for a reason. You must let go of the beliefs and judgments you learned from your outer world. You’ll need to sit quietly and learn to be an observer rather than a first responder. One of the most powerful shifts a person can make is learning to think about their own thinking instead of just reacting to it, says psychologist Nick Wignall. That gap between a thought and your response to it is exactly where a meditation practice lives, and it is where real self-knowledge starts …

I set up Pi-hole on my home network, and the internet feels like a completely different place

I set up Pi-hole on my home network, and the internet feels like a completely different place

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that your internet’s working. You’re probably using the modem that came with your internet package. Maybe you’ve added your own router to the mix. But there’s one change that has the power to revolutionize your home network and everything you connect to it. And as is so often the case with these things, it’s DNS. It’s always DNS. Normally, all of your devices, from phones to computers to smart home accessories, use the DNS servers provided by your internet service provider (ISP). Alternatively, you can choose to use DNS servers from other companies. Google and Cloudflare are some of the more popular options, and they are often faster and more reliable than the servers offered by your ISP. But I wanted even more control and even better performance, so I rolled my own. These days, my home network runs on two Pi-hole DNS servers powered by virtualized Ubuntu machines. And now I’ve tasted the benefits, I’ll never go back to using anyone else’s servers. Related Your router …

“Completely false”: Melania Trump denies any “relationship” to Jeffrey Epstein

“Completely false”: Melania Trump denies any “relationship” to Jeffrey Epstein

First lady Melania Trump denied any connection with Jeffrey Epstein and his crimes on Thursday, calling online rumors of a supposed connection between her and the notorious sex trafficker “false smears.” Rumors have swirled around Trump thanks to her husband’s relationship with the late sex trafficker. In 2025, Hunter Biden claimed President Donald Trump and Melania were introduced to each other by Epstein.  Author Andrew Lownie made a similar accusation in his book, “Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.” Both claims sparked a swift legal response from Melania Trump’s lawyers, though Biden refused to retract his statement. Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Melania Trump said she had “never been friends with Epstein.” “I am not Epstein’s victim.  Epstein did not introduce me to Donald Trump. I met my husband, by chance, at a New York City party in 1998,” she said. The first lady recalled that she met Epstein alongside Trump, at an event in 2000. “At the time, I had never met Epstein and had no knowledge of …

How one song completely changed Céline Dion’s career trajectory — and it isn’t ‘My Heart Will Go On’

How one song completely changed Céline Dion’s career trajectory — and it isn’t ‘My Heart Will Go On’

When most people think of Céline Dion, they think of her hit song “My Heart Will Go On,” which was the soundtrack for Titanic. However, many don’t often give credit to the song that started it all – without which we wouldn’t have ever gotten to hear her belting that hit later on. Her fame and fortune came after the star won the 33rd Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 in Dublin. During the competition, the French-Canadian singer represented Switzerland. © Getty ImagesCéline holds bouquet of flowers as she speaks on stage after winning Eurovision 1988 The song that magically changed it all for her was “Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi” by Nella Marinetti and Atilla Serftug. It was her jaw-dropping performance of it that took away the breath of viewers. At 20 years old, she rocked the stage in a white blazer, ballerina tutu skirt, white stockings and white heels. She donned her red curly locks with a dark red lipstick and she gave it her all while she sang the French song. The competition …

My music sounded completely wrong until I turned off an audio setting I didn’t know was on

My music sounded completely wrong until I turned off an audio setting I didn’t know was on

Music listening can be as simple as you make it, or it can become a very expensive and complicated hobby quickly. There is a seemingly never-ending list of features, upgrades, and settings you can use to improve or change the way your music sounds. Not all of them are worth using, however — some are complete gimmicks, while others require the right hardware to maximize. Sound quality is subjective, so you might love a feature or setting the person beside you hates. There’s no better example of that principle than spatial audio. It’s one of the biggest buzzwords in the consumer audio space today, with both streaming services and headphones billing it as the next premium feature you need to use. The idea behind spatial audio is simple. Using either specialized master recordings or software algorithms, spatial audio tries to place sounds around you in a virtual three-dimensional environment. This changes how your music sounds, with listeners reporting overwhelming bass and disappearing mids, and not everyone likes it. It’s harder to turn off than you …

11 Basic Life Lessons Most Parents Completely Forget To Teach Their Kids

11 Basic Life Lessons Most Parents Completely Forget To Teach Their Kids

Parents do not want to set their children up for failure. They want to give them all the knowledge they can to move forward in life. No matter how hard they try, there will still be some things that they forget to teach. If school doesn’t cover it, these kids might be entering the world without some basic life lessons. I remember when I was in school. I never learned anything about finances. When I was thrown into the world as an adult and had to balance my bank account, I was lost. The first overdraft fee I experienced rocked my world. And don’t get me started on taxes! These are things no one taught me, even though my parents meant well and tried to check every box. Some parents also forget to teach their children life skills like resilience and emotional regulation. While they mean well, these things can fall through the cracks. These are 11 basic life lessons most parents completely forget to teach their kids 1. Budgeting digitalskillet from Getty Images Signature …
