Rachel Reeves blamed as Morrisons confirms closure of 100 stores | UK | News

A major supermarket chain has blamed the Government after it was forced to close 100 stores. Morrisons has announced it will be closing dozens of stores over the next couple of months. The supermarket said the store closures, which were originally taken on as part of a £190million rescue deal for McColl’s in 2022, were subject to ongoing review but had been loss-making for some time despite efforts to improve trading. The high street giant said their circumstances had been exacerbated by “significant cost increases resulting from Government policy choices”, including the national living wage increases and the hike in employer National Insurance contributions. A HM Treasury spokesperson said: “We have the right economic plan – reforming business rates, with a £4.3bn support package to limit bills rises, capping Corporation Tax at 25%, cutting red tape and taking action on the cost of living to boost the sector.” The chain stressed that the move affected company-owned stores, but not its franchised stores – a part of the business that’s continuing to expand. Hamas’s armed wing confirms Israel killed its new leader in Gaza strike

Israel said Wednesday it targeted and killed the new leader of Hamas’s military wing, Mohammed Odeh, during air strikes in Gaza City on Tuesday less than two weeks after killing his predecessor. In a statement confirming Odeh as its chief of staff, Hamas’s armed wing said he was killed in an Israeli strike on Tuesday evening. “With great pride, honour, dignity and defiance, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades announce the martyrdom of one of the foremost leaders of the Palestinian resistance,” it said, adding that he was killed “in a cowardly assassination operation that resulted in the martyrdom of him, his wife, and his children”. A Hamas official told AFP that three of Odeh’s children were killed, including two adult men and a girl under 18. Odeh and his family’s funeral took place Wednesday in Gaza City, with hundreds of mourners in attendance. An AK-47 was laid on Odeh’s corpse as the crowd carried him to the mosque for funerary prayers. Noting that Odeh was killed during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, Bassem Abu Odeh, …

Witcher 3 DLC announced as CDPR confirms first expansion in 10 years

Witcher 3 DLC announced as CDPR confirms first expansion in 10 years

The long-rumoured third major expansion for The Witcher 3 has officially been confirmed by developer CD Projekt Red. Following its initial release in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has gone on to become one of the defining RPGs of the 2010s, earning itself two critically acclaimed expansions in Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. But with a decade having passed since the release of Blood and Wine, and The Witcher 4 still apparently nowhere near release, CDPR has apparently seen fit to throw hungry players a bone to tide them over until an eventual sequel. In a statement put out on The Witcher’s official social media channels, the studio wrote: “Medallion’s humming… that can only mean one thing! It’s time to announce The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past! “This brand new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more.” Want to see this content? Prince William Dodges Question About Taylor Swift Wedding, But Confirms His Kids Are Swifties

Prince William Dodges Question About Taylor Swift Wedding, But Confirms His Kids Are Swifties

Prince William, with his trademark simplicity and irony, recounted a few episodes from his family’s daily life as they grapple with the little daily post-waking problems: last-minute delays, hastily consumed breakfasts, forgotten items, and the often frantic management of morning routines. “It can be chaotic,” he admitted, explaining that it all depends on the day’s activities, such as music lessons or school commitments, which require constant last-minute adjustments. One of the most tender and funny moments of the interview came when William talked about Prince Louis, described as the most “messy” of the family during breakfast and car rides. “There’s a lot of jam sandwiches taken in the car, usually,” William shared. “[Prince Louis will] leave jam fingerprints throughout the car, which is really helpful.” Elsewhere in the interview, William praised wife Kate Middleton for completing her first solo overseas trip since her 2024 cancer diagnosis. “I’m so proud—incredibly proud,” the Prince of Wales said about Kate. “She’s been amazing. She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. And yeah, she’d …

Anna Maxwell Martin reflects on Motherland end – and confirms if she’ll make an Amandaland cameo

Anna Maxwell Martin has opened up about why Motherland wrapped when it did, following the success of its BBC spin-off Amandaland. The actor led the hit BBC comedy as Julia, the permanently frazzled working mother trying – and often failing – to keep on top of school runs, childcare, parent politics and the general chaos of modern family life. Motherland first aired as a pilot in 2016 before launching as a full series in 2017, going on to run for three seasons and two Christmas specials. Its final festive outing, Last Christmas, aired in December 2022 and delivered a particularly emotional twist for Julia, whose mother Marion died during the episode. Speaking to The Times, Maxwell Martin said the comedy had come to a “natural end” after three series. “We weren’t sad because we felt we’d done really good work and were proud,” she said. “I’m so pleased [the spin-off] Amandaland has been a success.” Asked whether she would like to make a cameo in the spin-off, Maxwell Martin gave a firm response: “No, it’s …
