Dan Loeb Reveals DOJ Threat To Trump Over Ross Ulbricht Commutation In Final Hours Of First Term

Dan Loeb Reveals DOJ Threat To Trump Over Ross Ulbricht Commutation In Final Hours Of First Term

Authored by Juan Galt via Bitcoin Magazine, Hedge fund manager Dan Loeb has publicly claimed that the Department of Justice threatened President Donald Trump in the final hours of Trump’s first term in January 2021, warning it would “go after” him if he commuted the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, creator of the Bitcoin-powered Silk Road marketplace. After the reported threat, Trump withdrew the commutation, forcing Ulbricht to serve four additional years in prison before receiving a full pardon in January 2025 during Trump’s second term. Loeb, founder and CEO of Third Point LLC, made the revelation on the All-In Podcast while discussing his role in criminal justice reform and Ulbricht’s clemency efforts. “On the last day of Trump’s 45th term, we were certain that he was going to get out,” Loeb stated. “And the Justice Department, for whatever reason, said, ‘If you commute his sentence, we’re going to go after you,’ to the president. So he, as I understand, he withdrew the commutation.” This account is the first public report of such a direct threat …

Dan Lin Says Netflix Won’t Work With ‘Filmmakers Who Want Theatrical’

Dan Lin, chairman of Netflix film, opened up about the streamer’s decision to give Greta Gerwig‘s Narnia movie a wide theatrical release in a new profile with The New York Times, assuring the outlet that the move was an “exception” and not a hint at its future rollout strategy. Lin joined Netflix in April 2024, taking over the reins from Scott Stuber, who shifted the streaming service into the blockbuster space. When discussing the Barbie director’s upcoming Narnia film, the Netflix film boss told the Times that he knows there are directors and filmmakers who value theatrical releases that the company will not be able to work with. “There is a group of filmmakers who still want theatrical,” Lin said. “Those are filmmakers that we’ve accepted we just won’t work with.” Gerwig’s adaptation of the fantasy novel was originally slated to be released in Imax theaters on Thanksgiving before arriving on Netflix on Christmas Day. However, in May, the streamer revealed that the film will release on Feb. 12, 2027, and later go to Netflix on April …

Stop Trying to ‘Help Me Write’ | Dan Chiasson

April 22, 2026, 5:35 AM AI has made contemporaneous self-reflexivity almost a necessary precondition for anyone who tries to write about it, now that, from behind the blinking cursor marking my every pause and hesitation in writing this sentence, a serpent waits to strike. I would prefer not to write sentences that track their own emergence from thought; I don’t like the kind of faddish writing that does this, this very thing that I am doing; but now that I feel I must actively preserve thinking as the medium in which language is generated, against Google’s satanic offer to “Help Me Write,” I also feel I should think about what it is I’m preserving, and who, exactly, the tempter is, and why they are so eager to “help me” surrender the pleasure of making the next associative or logical leap on my own, from hints and insinuations found inside a brain that can never fully know itself, or—sorry if this seems vain—tire of trying. “Heavens—it is an hour later,” Elizabeth Bishop once wrote to Robert …

Dan Levy Compares Heated Rivalry Success to Schitt’s Creek

The Critics Choice Association started Pride Month festivities early, as the organization hosted its third annual Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television on Friday in Los Angeles. The event recognized a star-studded lineup of LGBTQ+ stars and creatives, with Dan Levy, Hannah Einbinder, Noah Schnapp, Jane Lynch and Heated Rivalry creator Jacob Tierney all receiving honors. Levy, currently on the Emmy campaign trail for his new show Big Mistakes, opened up in his speech about his desire for queer people to be able to make Hollywood projects “without the added weight of responsibility — knowing that what we make needs to work in order to make an impact, in order for more of our stories to be told. Imagine the bliss of making something, knowing that there are so many queer stories being told that we can simply create for entertainment’s sake, or better yet, fail and be given a second chance.” He mused that often those running the industry “think they know what they want until a Schitt’s Creek or a Heated Rivalry comes …

Ms Vanderpuije, 47, who co-presented the Channel 5 News programme with Mr Walker from 2022, had lodged claims of unfair dismissal, discrimination on grounds of race and sex, harassment, and breach of contract. She had also filed a claim of suffering detriment or dismissal under the Public Interest Disclosure Act, commonly known as whistleblowing. Her lawyer, Jonathan Coad, told the Daily Mail earlier this month: “Claudia-Liza claims that she was the victim of a sham redundancy because as a whistleblower she made protected disclosures alleging that a toxic culture of racism, sexism, misogyny and bullying existed in the Channel 5 Newsroom, and that its editorial content reflected its racist culture.” Mr Walker, 49, was listed …
