Man at City Council Meeting Makes Devastating Case Against Proposed Local Data Center

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech The growing anger over the AI industry’s obsession with building massive and resource-intensive data centers across the country is as palpable than ever. A recent survey by the Pew Research Center highlighted widespread public concern over the facilities’ environmental harms, effects on home energy costs, and the quality of life of nearby residents. These concerns do seem justified. Experts have found that data centers can spike local electricity prices, generate copious amounts of greenhouse gases, and place a major strain on freshwater resources. Now, a self-described content creator and digital artist named Will Hollingsworth who spoke up during a city council meeting in Ravenna, Ohio — a small town of 11,000 residents — is turning heads with his passionate argument against data centers. The council’s chambers became overwhelmed with a crowd of almost 100 people during the April 10 meeting, which hosted a debate over a proposed 12-month moratorium on data center construction in the area inspired by …

Three years of a devastating war in Sudan : NPR

Sudanese refugees wait for registration at Oure Cassoni camp in Chad after fleeing the conflict on Feb. 23, 2026. The war has displaced about 14 million people, fueling a major humanitarian crisis. Dan Kitwood/Getty Images hide caption toggle caption Dan Kitwood/Getty Images LAGOS, Nigeria — A year ago, Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, was an eerie ghost town of battered storefronts, homes and buildings pockmarked with bullet holes. Now, steady traffic threads through lively streets. Government institutions have returned from the temporary war-time capital, Port Sudan. The airport has reopened. And the United Nations says hundreds of thousands of people — among millions displaced — have come back over the past year. It has been three years since fighting erupted in the capital of Sudan, devastating what was once one of Africa’s major urban centers, then spreading across the country. Today in Khartoum, there are signs of a slow revival, but it remains a shadow of its former self. State services like electricity and running water are still scarce. Schools, hospitals and mosques are only …

Dad Says He’s ‘Always Had The Answers’ Until His Son’s Devastating Diagnosis Left Him Feeling Stranded And Lost

The anonymity that the internet provides often brings out people’s worst impulses, as there’s little accountability for online cruelty. Yet sometimes, communities created through virtual forums are places of hope, where someone can say how they feel and hear support echoed back to them. One father’s post online about his 15-month-old son’s rare syndrome, which has since been deleted, was a prime example of finding reassurance through online spaces. The dad felt ‘stranded and lost’ after his son’s devastating diagnosis. “I posted when he was 5 months old, 8 months old, a year old, 15 months old, and now, but this time I have his official diagnosis thanks to whole genome sequencing,” the dad began his post. “I’m shattered. I’m broken. I’m falling apart, and this is my only outlet to let that be known.” “I’m his father, and I can’t fall apart because I need to be there for my wife and two other daughters,” the dad proclaimed. He explained his son’s diagnosis of “an insanely rare syndrome where less than 400 people worldwide are …

Iran issues chilling ‘much more devastating’ warning after Donald Trump’s furious threats

Iran has warned of “much more devastating” retaliation after Donald Trump’s latest threats. Over the weekend, the US President issued an expletive-laden threat against Iran, saying America would escalate strikes on its infrastructure if it doesn’t open the Strait of Hormuz by his deadline, which is 1am UK time on Tuesday. In a social media post, Mr Trump promised strikes on Iran’s power plants and bridges. He vowed the “crazy bastards” would be “living in Hell” if the strait, a crucial waterway for global trade, isn’t opened to marine traffic by Tuesday. He ended with “Praise be to Allah.” Mr Trump has issued such deadlines before but extended them when mediators have claimed progress toward ending the war, which has killed thousands, shaken global markets, cut off key shipping routes and spiked fuel prices in just over five weeks. More Than 230 Rescued As Devastating Flooding Continues To Hammer Hawaiian Islands

Authored by T.J.Muscaro via The Epoch Times, It has been the worst flooding Oahu has seen in more than 20 years, and as of the morning of March 21, the torrential rains and rushing waters continue to flow across the mountainous island and the rest of the Hawaiian archipelago. The devastating milestone was announced on March 20 by Hawaii Gov. Josh Green, who said that damages could exceed $1 billion. The cause is a type of winter storm called a “Kona Low,” which is southerly or southwesterly winds that bring moist air onto the islands. This is the second such storm that Hawaii has faced this month. Green issued a statement on the morning of March 21, stating that no loss of life had yet been reported, although there were some serious injuries. But the back-to-back storms caused some areas to get between 40 and 50 inches of rain. The first storm hit between March 10 and March 16 and delivered multiple feet of rain to parts of Kawai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island, as …

Edison executive pay soars despite devastating Eaton fire

Edison executive pay soars despite devastating Eaton fire

Edison International boosted the pay of its top executives last year despite their responsibility for the safety of the company’s power lines before the devastating Eaton fire, which destroyed a wide swath of Altadena and killed 19 people. Although the company cut cash bonuses for its senior executives, citing the wildfires, their overall compensation went up substantially as the utility’s profit soared in 2025. Pedro Pizarro, chief executive of the parent company of Southern California Edison, received $16.6 million in cash, stock and other compensation last year, up 20% from 2024, according to a new company filing. Steven Powell, president of Southern California Edison, received compensation totaling $6.5 million last year, up from $3.9 million in 2024 — a jump of more than 65%. The utility’s transmission equipment is suspected of igniting two wildfires on Jan. 7, 2025, including the Eaton fire, which left thousands of families homeless. The Times earlier detailed how Edison fell behind in performing maintenance on its aging transmission lines — work that it had told state utility regulators was needed. …

Beatrice and Eugenie face devastating blow as William ‘picks up pieces’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

TalkTV presenter Jeremy Kyle addressed the latest debacle as royal biographer Andrew Lownie addressed Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s futures. The York sisters have kept low profiles ever since their father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested on suspicion of public misconduct on his 66th birthday. He has not been charged, and the inquiry remains active. However, his daughters may be forced to step back from royal life, according to the royal biographer and historian. Host Jeremy addressed reports the princesses “want to keep their titles” amid the former Prince Andrew’s scandal. The biographer claimed the sisters should “renounce” their royal status but suggested that is unlikely to happen. Speaking on the programme on March 8, the royal biographer said, “I think one of the reasons they swan around the Middle East all of the time because that’s one area where they can monetise their royal position. Andrew has always been keen for them to be working royals and have police protection when they didn’t need it.” Lownie suggested part of the former prince’s decision to leave …
