Seven Dials Viewers Turn To This Agatha Christie Mystery On Netflix

After the success of Netflix’s recent Agatha Christie adaptation Seven Dials, another series based on the Queen of Crime’s work is having a resurgence on the platform. More recently, the service has quietly added six seasons of Marple and 13 series of Poirot to their catalogue. According to Metro, Marple began climbing Netflix’s top 10 list earlier this week, with viewers seemingly clambering to watch another classic Agatha Christie adaptation off the back of Seven Dials. Originally airing on ITV in 2004, the drama follows Jane Marple, who uses her sleuthing skills to crack cases in her quaint English village of St Mary Mead. The late Geraldine McEwan brought Marple to life in the first three seasons, before Julia McKenzie took over the role for the latter three. Christie purists be warned, though, that this show takes some liberties with the source material, with the show inserting Marple into other Christie stories that she was not originally included in. However, seeing as Seven Dials was tied up in a neat three-part series, covering the entirety of the Agatha Christie book it was adapted from, it’s unlikely we’ll get another series that’s a direct sequel. Could Bundle from Seven …

“Isn’t she just ‘it’?” a partygoer observes of Lady Eileen Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce), blessed with the rather adorable nickname of “Bundle” and daughter to Lady Caterham (Helena Bonham Carter), British gentry fallen on hard times in the aftermath of World War I. Bundle is, indeed, “it,” a description lifted directly from the two Agatha Christie novels (The Secret of Chimneys and The Seven Dials Mystery) featuring this plucky, mystery-solving heroine, who gets to be front and center in Netflix‘s new three-part drama, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials. Clocks tick throughout: on mantelpieces, in pockets, and – most ominously – in a circle of seven around a handsome corpse. It’s a motif that haunts this adaptation of Christie’s 1929 novel: the sense that something precious is slipping away, that the Roaring Twenties won’t last for ever. That body, found the morning after a lavish country house party, belongs to Gerry Wade (Corey Mylchreest), suitor to Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent (Mia McKenna-Bruce). The police call it misadventure. She calls it murder. What follows is playful and lighthearted, but deceptively shrewd. Fifty years after Christie’s death, Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall mines this early work for something more spirited than her Poirot mysteries. Far from being another moustache-twiddling, drawing-room whodunnit, here her first venture into literary espionage crackles with wit and intrigue. …
