Meghan Markle’s Girl Scouts Documentary Can Teach the US Government A Lot About Leadership

Meghan Markle’s Girl Scouts Documentary Can Teach the US Government A Lot About Leadership

To help spread her message of female-led ingenuity at the local level, Nahmias enlisted former Girl Scout Meghan Markle who, like Olive, was the daughter of her troop leader back when she sold cookies. Markle serves as executive producer on Cookie Queens alongside her husband, Prince Harry, and Chanel Pysnik, head of unscripted content at the Sussexes’ Archewell Productions. “What’s awesome is having all of our executive producers, including the duke and duchess, wanting to shine a light on young people and take them seriously,” says Nahmias. “We don’t often see girls represented three-dimensionally, where we can be ambitious and cutthroat—[but] also tender and vulnerable. Meghan got that from the beginning.” A source close to Meghan tells Vanity Fair that she was “moved by Nahmias’s vision for the project.” “Meghan was a Brownie and a Junior when she was younger, so there was also a personal connection. She speaks fondly of her time as a Girl Scout and the lessons it taught her about entrepreneurship and confidence,” they added. Earlier this year, Markle and Prince …

Melania Trump Is Giving Documentaries Another Try Despite Her Film’s Flop

Melania Trump Is Giving Documentaries Another Try Despite Her Film’s Flop

For Melania Trump, a flop isn’t a reason to give up. Despite the disappointing results of her first documentary, Melania—which reportedly grossed just under $17 million, while Amazon MGM Studios reportedly spent nearly $75 million—the First Lady has decided to try again. This time, it’s a multi-episode documentary series, expected to premiere on Prime Video next fall. The announcement was made by Marc Beckman, Melania’s exclusive senior advisor, during a Real America’s Voice appearance. While the first film followed the former model for about 20 days, offering a glimpse into “her private life, her marriage, her family,” per Beckman, this new series promises a “completely different” approach. Viewers will get a behind-the-scenes look at the early days of the 47th presidential administration. This new project is expected to resonate with Melania’s most loyal admirers, particularly among her supporters in Florida. The first documentary, in fact, earned a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, driven largely by her most ardent followers. Around Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, where Donald Trump has owned his famous estate since 1985, …

Monsters of God Director Eric Goode Explains His Personal Ties to the Illegal Reptile Trade Before Tiger King and Chimp Crazy

Monsters of God Director Eric Goode Explains His Personal Ties to the Illegal Reptile Trade Before Tiger King and Chimp Crazy

His eventual involvement in an industry—created by smugglers and international crime syndicates, and in which big American zoos are also complicit—started with a single turtle. Goode received his prized pet at age six, igniting a childhood fascination with the reptiles that morphed into full-blown obsession as he matured. “I had a room full of turtles and tortoises and snakes and lizards when I was a teenager in high school,” he says. “Eventually, girls trumped that for me for a while, but I went back to turtles and tortoises.” With Nixon’s signing of the 1973 Endangered Species Act, obtaining exotic animals became more challenging, but also more valuable for those willing to break the rules. Men like Tommy Crutchfield, known as the “Lizard Whisperer” and as the reptile dealer who, as he boasts in the docuseries, before he pleaded guilty in 1999 to smuggling exotic animals (for which he served 30 months in prison), “supplied cobras for Indiana Jones, the alligators on The Johnny Carson Show. I sold some tortoises to Michael Jackson.” As explored in …

Keanu Reeves, Gard Hollinger Interview on Motorcycle Racing TV Series

Keanu Reeves, Gard Hollinger Interview on Motorcycle Racing TV Series

Keanu Reeves and Gard Hollinger knew it was a big undertaking to launch a motorcycle racing team. The Speed actor met Hollinger — who raced motorcycles as a child until age 34, eventually launching his own custom-bike building business — in 2009, when Reeves commissioned Hollinger to build a bike for him. Two years later, they founded ARCH Motorcycle, which aims “to challenge the perception of what an American motorcycle could be,” according to its mission statement. “Anything that compromises the ride, aesthetics, stance or function is treated as an opportunity to innovate and improve the design.” The company focuses on passionate customers who are looking for a “completely immersive riding experience.”  Some time later, the two began talking about getting into the racing business. “We’re both a fan of racing,” Reeves tells The Hollywood Reporter over Zoom from Europe, where he’s currently touring with his band, Dogstar. “It was a bit of a fantasy, but I think, with the motorcycle and the engine that we developed with ARCH Motorcycle, it became, ‘Oh, maybe this …

“Pretty Blondes” and Dirty Janes: Women Are Driving Mass True Crime Interest in Female Killers

“Pretty Blondes” and Dirty Janes: Women Are Driving Mass True Crime Interest in Female Killers

Of course, a vulnerable, then-seven-and-a-half-months-pregnant Hancock-Simmons deserved protection—the leading cause of death of pregnant women in the US is murder—Dimmock points out. But also, “Taylor needed help,” she says. “There was a real catastrophe brewing and the idea that no one could intervene feels like a real failure.” A neurologist testifying for the defense said Parker experienced “frontal lobe syndrome,” a condition that describes a complex web of cognitive, behavioral, emotional, and motivational disturbances. Today, Parker is the youngest of just seven women on death row in Texas, according to the state department of criminal justice. When I ask if Parker belongs on death row, Dimmock replies, “Oh God, do I want to admit that out loud?” She consults a Netflix publicist on our Zoom call who, to his credit, encourages the filmmaker to speak her mind. “I don’t really believe in death row,” Dimmock begins. “What she did to Reagan is enough, but the fact that Reagan’s three-year-old daughter was at home, I’ll absolutely make an exception for this one.” Dimmock believes documentaries like …

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and Her Shaman Husband Are Headed to Reality TV

Princess Märtha Louise of Norway and Her Shaman Husband Are Headed to Reality TV

Durek Verrett and Märtha Louise of Norway at their wedding ceremony, in their Netflix documentary. Netflix An ideal candidate for this esoteric reality show, Märtha Louise is also no stranger to the cameras. As a member of the royal family, of course, but also because she and her husband like to put on a show. In 2024, the couple decided to sell the rights to their wedding ceremony footage to Netflix for a documentary, Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story, released last September. But the couple’s opportunity to set the record straight on their much-publicized relationship invited controversy upon its release. When asked about the documentary, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Princess Märtha Louise’s brother, declared that he should “refrain from judging it,” telling Norwegian outlet Se og Hør (as translated by Hello! magazine), “But unfortunately, I do not think that there is a good enough distinction between the activities of the Royal House and the project and the commercial side of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett’s activities.” The crown prince has yet to …

UFOs, Sex Bans, and a Mass Suicide: Inside the Sinister Heaven’s Gate Cult

UFOs, Sex Bans, and a Mass Suicide: Inside the Sinister Heaven’s Gate Cult

It’s a true story that, nearly 30 years later, is still stranger than fiction. In March 1997, members of the Heaven’s Gate cult visited a Carlsbad, California, restaurant for their last supper—identical orders of iced tea, salad, turkey pot pie, and cheesecake. Days later, everyone sitting around the table would be found dead in a home in nearby Rancho Santa Fe, a secluded, wealthy part of San Diego otherwise known for decorative citrus orchards, horse stables, and its elite country club. What remains the largest mass suicide in the US left 39 people dead. Later that year, it was parodied by Will Ferrell on Saturday Night Live and referenced by Jodie Foster in the sci-fi film Contact. Now the story of the cult is fictionalized in The Leader, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday, June 5. Tim Blake Nelson and Vera Farmiga play founders Marshall Applewhite and Bonnie Nettles, respectively; Applewhite, a Texas music teacher, met Nettles in the early 1970s at a psychiatric institution where she worked as a nurse. They …

The TikTok Ban Was Never About TikTok

The TikTok Ban Was Never About TikTok

It’s strange to see your life playing out on the big screen, but that’s what it felt like when I got an advanced look at TikTok Never Dies, a new documentary chronicling the high-stakes legal drama around banning TikTok in the United States. I’m not actually in the film, but as a China tech reporter, I’ve closely followed every twist and turn of the saga it covers, from when President Donald Trump first threatened to block TikTok in August 2020 to when he ended up brokering a sale of the app’s US operations in January 2026. Directed by Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker Hao Wu, the film is premiering on Thursday at the Tribeca Film Festival. It captures six years in 90 minutes through the eyes of the TikTok creators whose lives were deeply entangled with the fate of the video app. After former President Joe Biden signed a law in 2024 requiring ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a US ban, the company sued the government. It also recruited eight TikTok creators to join a parallel …
