An ideal candidate for this esoteric reality show, Märtha Louise is also no stranger to the cameras. As a member of the royal family, of course, but also because she and her husband like to put on a show. In 2024, the couple decided to sell the rights to their wedding ceremony footage to Netflix for a documentary, Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story, released last September. But the couple’s opportunity to set the record straight on their much-publicized relationship invited controversy upon its release.

When asked about the documentary, Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, Princess Märtha Louise’s brother, declared that he should “refrain from judging it,” telling Norwegian outlet Se og Hør (as translated by Hello! magazine), “But unfortunately, I do not think that there is a good enough distinction between the activities of the Royal House and the project and the commercial side of Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett’s activities.”

The crown prince has yet to react to his sister’s latest reality TV revelation. His family has been in the headlines as Haakon’s wife, Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has pulmonary fibrosis and is awaiting a lung transplant. In April, she arrived at a royal engagement with an oxygen cannula in her nose.
