Dolce & Gabbana and Diadora Are Making Soccer Cleats Hot Again

Dolce & Gabbana and Diadora Are Making Soccer Cleats Hot Again

Two weeks ago, we predicted that the Italian sportswear brand Diadora, who had just announced a new JW Anderson collab, was about to make its biggest comeback yet. And listen, we hate to brag, but now the label has followed up with an even louder link-up: Dolce & Gabbana. Unlike the JW Anderson drop, the D&G collection is super rowdy. Instead of introducing a brand-new silhouette, the new collab digs deep into Diadora’s archives to bring back one of its most legendary soccer models: the Brasil. Dolce & Gabbana Dolce & Gabbana Originally launched in 1984, the Brasil has proper calcio heritage behind it, having been worn by some of the Beautiful Game’s biggest names over the decades (Ballon d’Or winners like Italy’s Roberto Baggio and the Netherlands’ Marco van Basten, to name a few). And even if you’ve never laced up for five-a-side in your entire life, there’s still something incredibly cool about the shape. Slim profile. Folded tongue. Old-school soccer energy. Right now, that’s exactly what fashion guys want. “The collaboration between Diadora …

Stefano Gabbana steps down as Dolce & Gabbana chair

Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Stefano Gabbana has resigned as chair of the Italian luxury brand as the company braces for talks with its lenders. The fashion house, known for its maximalist interpretation of Italian style, has suffered in a prolonged global downturn in the luxury sector, while geopolitical tensions and war in the Middle East have further dented consumer confidence.  Gabbana stepped down from his management functions on January 1 “as part of a natural evolution of its organisational structure and governance”, the company said in a statement on Friday. He will remain in his creative roles. “These resignations have no impact whatsoever on the creative activities carried out by Stefano Gabbana on behalf of the group,” it said, adding it had “no statement to make at this time” on the negotiations with the banks.  Founded in 1985, Dolce & Gabbana has been one of the world’s top fashion brands, known for its opulent Alta Moda couture shows, Sicilian-inflected black lace designs and silhouette-moulding corset dresses.  Gabbana and co-founder Domenico Dolce each own a 40 …

What Is Going on at Dolce & Gabbana?

“Can you please spell Gabbana?” offers Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada on her first day as formidable and fictional magazine editor Miranda Priestly’s assistant. She is referring to Stefano Gabbana, who together with his former partner Domenico Dolce co-founded Dolce & Gabbana over four decades ago. Today, reports emerged that Gabbana has resigned as chairman of Dolce & Gabbana, and is considering options for his stake in the Italian company as it enters further negotiations with its creditors. The prolific fashion label, which is known globally for its steamy fragrance campaigns, be that starring model David Gandy or, most recently, actor Theo James, and more broadly for successfully marketing the Italian essence of the dolce vita, is reportedly €450 million (or about $522 million) in debt. Like many of its counterparts, the brand has faced pressure from an ongoing slowdown in the luxury goods industry. Last year, per Bloomberg, Dolce & Gabbana had worked on a refinancing of around €300 million of its debt through February 2030. Part of those …

Prada show rejects political elite, as Dolce & Gabbana criticised for ‘50 shades of white’ | Milan fashion week

Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the two designers behind Prada, are well aware that fashion is about more than clothes. However, backstage after their menswear show in Milan on Sunday, the duo said the volatile present moment was a difficult one to translate to a collection. “You talk about the world now,” said Prada “or you talk about fashion … The two things together, in this moment, are difficult.” The collection was, therefore, “uncomfortable”. Rather than meaning the clothes were not pleasant to wear – this is luxury fashion, after all – there were disparate elements put together in the same outfit: the top of a red sou’wester over a trenchcoat, for example, or a yellow scoop-neck jumper with cuffs of a shirt falling out the sleeve. (There were also some useful unexpected styling tips, such as wallets stuffed in a back pocket, or brightly coloured shoe laces). Prada designer Raf Simons aimed to portray a more ‘youthful’ masculinity. Photograph: WWD/Getty Images Asked about the role of the designer now, Simons responded: “We ask ourselves …
