TAG Heuer Has Dropped New Polylight-Powered F1s

TAG Heuer Has Dropped New Polylight-Powered F1s

No doubt looking to find some breathing space after the hubbub of Watches and Wonders last week, TAG Heuer has dropped an update to its 2025 revamped collection of the brand’s iconic plastic-cased 1980s watch, the “Formula 1.” The five new pieces are called the “pastel collection” by TAG, and all are built on the same solar-powered Formula 1 Solargraph 38 mm that launched in March last year. Two models feature a sandblasted stainless steel case, while the remaining three have cases made from TAG’s proprietary bio-polamide plastic, Polylight. It’s these Polylight versions that, for WIRED, are the stars of the new mini collection. Coming in pastel blue, beige, and pink, and sporting case-matching rubber straps and bidirectional-rotating Polylight bezels, they reference classic F1 designs that made the line iconic in the first place. Cartier Just Dropped an All-Star Team of Its Rarest Watch Models

Cartier Just Dropped an All-Star Team of Its Rarest Watch Models

There are a few things I look forward to every year at Watches and Wonders: the bizarre murals at the hotel where all the media members stay, for instance, or the two-bite ham and cheese sandwiches at the fairgrounds. But nothing gets me more excited than the curtain-raising on Cartier’s Privé collection, which exhumes iconic vintage models in the maison’s catalog and updates them for modern times. This year, as the Privé program turns a decade old, Cartier celebrated by releasing an all-star team of the best shape-happy watches released under the banner. There are six new watches divided into two groups of three. Part of me wishes Cartier had continued to dig up more designs from its illustrious history—how about the Driver, a Basculante, the Coussin, or Cristallor?—but it’s hard to be too upset about six new vintage-inspired watches. Cartier Crash Squelette Just when you thought the Crash couldn’t get any zanier (or more hyped), Cartier is proving it can still reinvent one of the industry’s most distinctive watches. I hesitate to even call …

Surfshark Just Dropped a Next-Gen VPN Protocol That Could Be Faster and More Secure Than Other VPN Connections

Surfshark Just Dropped a Next-Gen VPN Protocol That Could Be Faster and More Secure Than Other VPN Connections

Surfshark today released its brand-new Dausos VPN connection protocol, which the company says elevates three key elements for VPN users: 30% faster speeds than industry-standard protocols, enhanced security with a hybrid post-quantum encryption and dedicated, private server-side tunnels for each individual session.  This means that Dausos should give Surfshark users smoother connections, improved privacy and faster performance to benefit data-heavy activities, like streaming and gaming.  VPN protocols are essentially the rules that determine the encrypted connection between your device and the internet while on a VPN. Long gone are the days when OpenVPN dominated as the hotshot of the VPN protocol world. It’s still a fine protocol with airtight security that can be great when you need stable connections on any network or want to bypass firewalls, but it’s a lumbering hulk that wasn’t built for the speed or security requirements of today’s VPN users.  Modern times call for modern VPN protocols, and Surfshark is the latest of CNET’s top VPN picks to spin up its own proprietary next-generation VPN protocol. Dausos sounds poised to …

When I visited Rexhep Rexhepi, the renowned watchmaking phenom, at his Geneva workshop in the summer of 2024, the obsession had already started. His workbench was scattered with vintage chronographs, and his mind was whirring with ideas for how he might innovate on the age-old stopwatch complication. “I would be very interested now to do something that is different on the chronograph,” said Rexhepi, whose watches routinely sell for millions at auction. Now, nearly two years after that meeting—and four since Rexhepi’s last major release—the watchmaker has unveiled his latest model, the RRCHF. Rexhepi may have downplayed his ambitions when he said he wanted to do something interesting with the chronograph. These days, even many watch enthusiasts—including one watch brand executive I recently spoke with—are quick to point out that timepieces are now little more than symbols of status and taste, with no real practical value. …

Kia unveils US-spec EV3, for sale this year, picking up the ball Volvo dropped

2027 EV3 Kia has unveiled the US version of its EV3 small SUV, which has been selling like gangbusters overseas and will come to the American market by the end of this year. The EV3 has been super popular in global markets since its debut in 2024, becoming a best-seller in some countries. But as is often the case, the US has so far been deprived of this cool EV. Thankfully, that’s about to end. The Kia EV3 made its North American debut at the New York Auto Show this morning, with Kia announcing it will bring its most affordable EV to the US. Advertisement – scroll for more content The EV3 shares several design cues with the big, boxy three-row EV9, but in a much more right-sized package. At 169 inches long, its a full 28 inches shorter than its big sibling. 2027 EV3 That translates into more parkability, more efficiency, and a much lower cost. While we don’t yet know the US price, the EV3 starts at around £27k in the UK (before …

Trump’s Justice Department dropped 23,000 criminal investigations in shift to immigration

Trump’s Justice Department dropped 23,000 criminal investigations in shift to immigration

In the first days after Pam Bondi was appointed attorney general last year, the Department of Justice began shutting down pending criminal cases at a record pace. The cases included an investigation into a Virginia nursing home with a recent record of patient abuse; probes of fraud involving several New Jersey labor unions, including one opened after a top official of a national union was accused of embezzlement; and an investigation into a cryptocurrency company suspected of cheating investors. In total, the DOJ quietly closed more than 23,000 criminal cases in the first six months of President Donald Trump’s administration, abandoning hundreds of investigations into terrorism, white-collar crime, drugs and other offenses as it shifted resources to pursue immigration cases, according to an analysis by ProPublica. The bulk of these cases, which were closed without prosecution and known as declinations, had been referred to the DOJ by law enforcement agencies under prior administrations that believed a federal crime may have been committed. The DOJ routinely declines to prosecute cases for any number of reasons, including …

NYC just dropped 360 kW chargers where drivers really need them

NYC just dropped 360 kW chargers where drivers really need them

Photo: nyc.gov New York City just added another DC fast-charging hub, and this one is clearly aimed at the drivers who need it most. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Mike Flynn, and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have opened a new public EV fast-charging station at a municipal lot in downtown Flushing, Queens (135-23 39th Avenue). It’s the first of 10 sites planned over the next year as part of a partnership between NYC DOT and NYPA. The Flushing site has eight 360 kW fast chargers that can take an EV to 80% in around 10–15 minutes. And drivers won’t be charged extra for parking while they plug in. The city picked this location because it has limited access to affordable charging and a high number of residents who are Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) drivers – more than a third live in Queens.
