Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft Gets a Dark Mode (2026)

Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft Gets a Dark Mode (2026)

I’m a nighttime reader. I usually read in the dark with my e-reader of choice in its native dark mode (if you’re unfamiliar, it’s the mode that turns the background black and all text and lines white, making it much dimmer but still easy to read). That allows my husband and even my almost-4-year-old to snooze next to me while I read, with no beacon of light blasting from my device. It’s no surprise that, as such a nighttime reader, the lack of dark mode on the Kindle Colorsoft or Kindle Scribe Colorsoft was a big complaint for me. Yes, you can turn the page color black on books (but not on imported documents, including AZW3, which is designed specifically for reading on Amazon’s devices), but the menu bars and home pages would blast me in the eyes in a dark room if I wanted to switch what book I was reading or use a menu feature. The Best E-Readers (2026): Kobo, Kindle

Comparing Our Favorite E-Readers Honorable Mentions Below, you’ll find a few more e-readers we like but don’t necessarily love as much as our top picks. Boox Go 7 ($250) and Boox Color Go 7 ($290): Boox is known for its wide range of e-paper tablets, including the Palma 2 recommended above. If you’re looking for something a little larger with a similar Android-based experience, the Go 7 and Go Color 7 are a solid choice. There are page turner buttons, and it’s a nice square shape that’s easy to hold and use. The Go 7 is black-and-white, but you can get a color screen for $40 more with the Go Color 7. I don’t use color features a ton, so it’s worth saving money if you won’t either, but it’s great that the price difference isn’t steep. Boox Palma 2 for $316: This is a fun little pocket sized device, and it has a nice upgrade from the older model with fingerprint recognition, a faster CPU, and a newer version of Android. The Best Kindle Accessories (2026): Cases, Page Turners, Stickers

Moko Blue Twill Kindle Case This soft case has nice details on the cover, plus it has both a kickstand and a strap so that you can easily hold it or prop it up. There’s a magnet to close it that will sometimes wake the Kindle up when you open it, though not always in my experience. PopSockets PopCase Kindle and PopGrip PopSockets has a new Kindle case collection with built-in MagSafe attachments, so you can easily add on a PopGrip or other attachment if you wish. The Bookish designs are fun, and there are two collections of designs to enjoy. This one’s the Curled Up With a Good Book case and grip. Kindle Straps and Grips Looking for an easier way to hold your Kindle? Add these straps and grips right onto the Kindle or the case. Strapsicle E-Reader Hand Strap These silicone straps are super simple to use: Just pull them over opposite corners and you’re done. No sticky adhesive, no magnets, just simple straps. The set comes with two, but using just …
