Prince Harry’s redemption edges closer thanks to major royal reshuffle | Royal | News

Prince Harry’s prospects of being welcomed back into the royal fold have received a significant boost after one of the final remaining obstacles was removed. It emerged on Monday that Sir Clive Alderton will step down from his role as principal private secretary to King Charles next year. While the Palace will advertise for a successor, the move appears to clear the path for the promotion of former UK diplomat Theo Rycroft, currently deputy private secretary. Sir Clive and Rycroft are believed to be leading rival factions within the royal household, with Alderton advising the King to maintain distance from his younger son. By contrast, Rycroft is eager to pursue a reconciliation, concerned that the rift is harming the monarchy. With Sir Clive departing, only Prince William seemingly remains as an obstacle to Harry and Meghan’s return, though the Prince of Wales’s position will be undermined by Sir Clive’s absence. Harry referred disparagingly to Sir Clive as ‘The Wasp’ in his 2023 memoir, Spare. Describing him as “lanky, charming, arrogant, a ball of jazzy energy” …

Microsoft Edge’s AI features finally made me ditch Safari after years

Microsoft Edge’s AI features finally made me ditch Safari after years

MacBook Air M2 is the laptop I spend most of my day on. It’s where I work, watch videos, browse the web, and do almost everything. This is why Safari naturally became my browser of choice. I still use Chrome sporadically, but Safari was always the one I came back to. Then I saw what Microsoft Edge was doing with AI — it immediately caught my attention because I genuinely wanted to see if those AI features were actually useful. So I gave Edge a proper shot and used it as my daily browser for a while. What surprised me most was that I actually found myself relying on it, and I’m never going back. Related You should seriously give Microsoft Copilot a chance Microsoft forced this app on me, and I liked it. My browser finally got a brain Research without the tab-tastrophe Shimul Sood / MakeUseOf One of the things I ended up liking most about Microsoft Edge is how Copilot is always there the moment I open the browser. Microsoft clearly knows …

What forecasters expect this hurricane season, as Tropical Storm Bertha edges along : NPR

This NOAA satellite image taken at 10:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, July 21, shows Tropical Storm Bertha moving along the Gulf of Mexico’s northern coast. NOAA via AP hide caption toggle caption NOAA via AP Tropical Storm Bertha is the second named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, and it’s expected to track along the northern Gulf Coast for several days, hitting Gulf communities with up to four feet of storm surge and sustained winds as high as 50 miles per hour. Forecasters don’t expect Bertha to strengthen into a hurricane. But warmer waters in the Atlantic means the risk of destructive storms for the season is still high. Unusually warm Gulf waters increase risk of powerful storms Forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and Colorado State University predict fewer storms than average during the 2026 hurricane season. That’s in part because of a strong El Niño. This weather pattern drives up average global temperatures and generally tamps down hurricane activity in the Atlantic. But abnormally warm temperatures in the Atlantic can also increase the …

Mark J. Terrill/AP hide caption toggle caption Mark J. Terrill/AP INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Mikel Merino is Spain’s World Cup hero once again, and even he finds it hard to believe. A mere four days after Merino scored a clutch goal as a substitute in injury time to beat Portugal, he found himself in the right spot again in the quarterfinals when Belgium’s backup goalkeeper spilled the ball into his path. Merino booted it home in the 88th minute, sending Spain to a 2-1 victory Friday and into a titanic semifinal showdown with tournament favorite France. “I’ve done this again, and it’s happened to me again, so it would seem that coincidence exists,” a smiling Merino said. “If you’re ready and you try, I guess it can happen for you.” Already a versatile contributor in any role he can get as a depth player for his …

Muchova edges teen Mboko to reach first Miami Open semi-final

Muchova edges teen Mboko to reach first Miami Open semi-final

March 24 : Karolina Muchova needed all of her experience to hold off rising Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko 7-5 7-6(5) on Tuesday, booking a place in her first Miami Open semi-final in a match she admitted could have gone either way. The 29-year-old Czech secured her fifth WTA 1000 semi-final berth in a hard-fought contest that lasted one hour and 47 minutes. “It was very close, basically one point at the end. It can always change in tennis. I’m just very grateful I was able to win the last point,” Muchova said. The opening set was a tight affair, remaining on serve until 5-4 when Muchova found herself in trouble at 0-30 before reeling off four consecutive points to level at five games all. She then capitalised on a shaky service game from World number nine Mboko to edge ahead, eventually converting on her third set point to take the opener. The second set proved no easier, with both players holding serve all the way to a tiebreak. Muchova seized control with an early mini-break …

Evloev edges Murphy to set up UFC featherweight title shot

LONDON, March 21 : Russia’s Movsar Evloev overcame a point deduction for a foul to edge a majority decision win over Lerone Murphy at Saturday’s UFC fight at the O2 Arena, likely punching his ticket to a title fight against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in his next bout.  With the two fighters putting their undefeated records on the line to decide who will face the 37-year-old Australian Volkanovski for the belt, the bout turned into an intriguing clash of styles. Evloev, who is known for his wrestling, tried to showcase his striking while Murphy displayed some superb defensive work on the ground.  Murphy evaded the fearsome grappling attack of his Russian opponent for the first two rounds of the five-round bout, using a selection of stiff right hands to keep him at bay, and Evloev took the chance to exhibit some of the dangerous spinning strikes he has added to his repertoire since his last fight in December 2024.   Evloev finally managed to take the fight to the mat early in the third round but Murphy …

US issues Cyprus travel warning as Middle East war edges closer to Europe – POLITICO

Cyprus is increasingly being pulled into the conflict. A drone strike hit a runway at the British RAF Akrotiri base earlier, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said, prompting Nicosia to cancel an informal meeting of EU affairs ministers. U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain would deploy the destroyer HMS Dragon, while French President Emmanuel Macron announced France would send a frigate and air-defense systems to the island. With Greek F-16s now on the island and European warships moving into the eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus will continue to be the epicenter of EU concern about the war spilling over onto its territory.
