(Sadie Sink’s mysterious character has been roundly praised so far, BTW). And Tom himself has said he’s “loving” promoting both the Marvel flick and his other summer blockbuster, The Odyssey.  “When you’re doing press for movies you’re really proud of, it’s really easy. Because when they ask you questions about, ‘Why should people go and watch this movie?’, you’re not lying to anyone. You really feel like people should go see it,” he told the hosts of Waitrose’s Dish podcast recently. The film follows a forgotten Peter Parker who undergoes a transformation he “may not have the power to control”. Here’s what the reviews say so far:  What do critics think of Spider-Man: Brand New Day? It’s earned a very impressive 90% on review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes. Though responses to the film’s plot are mixed, there’s one thing reviewers seem unanimous on: Tom Holland’s performance as Peter …

Solstice buys Element Solutions in $14.5 billion deal, sharpens focus on AI market

July 6 : Honeywell spinoff Solstice Advanced Materials said it will buy peer specialty chemical company Element Solutions in a $14.5 billion deal, as it seeks to capitalize on growing demand from AI data centers and the chip industries. The deal would create a larger supplier of materials used in semiconductor manufacturing, electronics and industrial applications, combining Solstice’s refrigerants, specialty materials and uranium-conversion business with Element’s electronics chemicals portfolio. Shares of Solstice dropped nearly 13 per cent, while those of Element fell 2.1 per cent on Monday, following the announcement of the cash-and-stock deal. Solstice said the transaction would accelerate its strategy to build an advanced materials platform with greater exposure to electronics, AI infrastructure, thermal management and data-center cooling applications, while maintaining a global footprint. CEO David Sewell said on a conference call that the deal is expected to deliver more than $180 million in annual cost savings within three years of closing and expand the company’s reach in the semiconductor and electronics markets. Solstice’s uranium conversion and nuclear-services business would position the combined …

Waymo taps fleet giant Element to scale its robotaxi service

Waymo taps fleet giant Element to scale its robotaxi service

Photo: Waymo Waymo has tapped fleet management company Element to help keep its robotaxis charged, maintained, and on the road as the company expands into more cities. The multi-year partnership will start in San Diego and could expand to additional markets over time. While Waymo continues to run its driverless ride-hailing service through the Waymo app and oversees the performance of its autonomous driving system, Element will handle much of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps the fleet running. That includes vehicle lifecycle management, charging infrastructure, energy management, maintenance coordination, and fleet optimization. As Waymo grows, managing thousands of vehicles across multiple cities becomes a massive operational challenge. It’s not just about the self-driving technology – the cars need to be charged, maintained, repaired, and kept in service. Players may start on a quest to slay a villainous dragon, only to spend hours of their campaign helping a local village deal with a vengeful necromancer. But no matter where the story goes, everyone’s choices are influenced by rolling a lot of dice. The roleplaying game is particularly famous for its reliance on the 20-sided die, but there are all types of sizes depending on the situation. That said, the situations when someone might need to toss a 120-sided variant are few and far between. However, a collective of game designers called The Mint Tin Guys decided to make just such an accessory available for D&D fans. But why …

Politics Home Article | Government Considers Watering Down Mandatory Element Of Digital ID

Politics Home Article | Government Considers Watering Down Mandatory Element Of Digital ID

There is a strong wish within the PLP for the scheme to be introduced as non-mandatory (Alamy) 4 min read53 min Exclusive: There are discussions within government about introducing a key part of the digital ID scheme as optional, rather than as mandatory, PoliticsHome understands. It comes as ministers try to build public support for the scheme after recent opinion polls suggested that the proposal had become less popular since the scheme was announced by Prime Minister Keir Starmer in September. The government has previously said that the planned digital ID will be mandatory for Right to Work checks from 2029. This is the only element for which use will be mandatory, with other uses to be available to the public voluntarily.  However, sources familiar with internal discussions have told PoliticsHome that one change under consideration within government is introducing the Right To Work element of the scheme as optional in 2029, before potentially making it mandatory later down the line. PoliticsHome understands there is a belief among many Labour MPs that pushing ahead with digital ID in its current form would …

Chronic fatigue syndrome seems to have a very strong genetic element

Chronic fatigue syndrome seems to have a very strong genetic element

Chronic fatigue syndrome doesn’t have a single cause, but the role of genetics is starting to come to light anusorn nakdee/Getty Images We’re starting to get a handle on the role that genetics plays in the onset of chronic fatigue syndrome, or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS). According to the largest study of its kind to date, more than 250 genes are involved – six times the number identified earlier this year. Not only could this help us develop treatments that tackle ME/CFS at its roots, but the study also adds to our knowledge of how it differs from long covid, a very similar condition. “It’s opening up a huge number of new avenues, either for novel therapy development or for drug repurposing,” says team member Steve Gardner at Precision Life in Oxford. ME/CFS is a chronic condition that is often disabling. It has many symptoms, but a core feature is post-exertional malaise, where even small amounts of activity lead to prolonged exhaustion. ME/CFS is generally triggered by an infection, but it is unclear why many people …
