I tested the Premium plan extensively in the UK and briefly in Europe. It was quick and easy to set up in the Saily app and kept me connected as I roamed, offering decent speeds up to around 300 Mbps on 5G networks in city center locations, inevitably dropping off to 4G and around 15 Mbps in more rural spots. The specific speeds you’ll get depend entirely on the local network. Saily piggybacks on local providers, mainly connecting to EE and Vodafone during my month of testing. The Ultra plan includes 30 GB of high-speed data. In this case, high-speed simply means unfettered; the actual speed you get depends on coverage where you are. After that 30 GB is gone, you get unlimited throttled data at up to 1 Mbps. Years ago, phones had slots for SIM cards, tiny cards that contain all the necessary data to connect to your cellular carrier. You could take the SIM card out of the tray and insert it into another phone or swap the SIM card for another from a different country while traveling to use a different number. Lately, however, many carriers have been switching to eSIMs, electronic SIM cards, while some phones, like iPhones, are eliminating the physical SIM tray altogether. Instead, the SIM information is totally virtual. This initially sounds like a downgrade, presumably making it more challenging to move your SIM from one phone to another, or switch devices if you have multiple phones. I always used eSIMs for travel purposes, but never for my primary connection. But once my carrier switched to eSIMs, I realized it’s so much better. There’s been an explosion in popularity in recent years for travel eSIMs. This is thanks to how easy eSIMs have become to set up on a phone, and how much more inexpensive their data plans can be when compared to what you’ll pay in international roaming fees. But Motorola is now making it even more hassle-free by building a native travel eSIM experience into its smartphones. The capability is initially available as an app customers will have to download from the Google Play Store, called Global Connect, but the app will be preinstalled on new Motorola devices in the future. It’s available for any Motorola phone with eSIM capabilities—including smartphones as cheap as the $180 2026 Moto G Play—though it’s currently only available for use in a handful of Latin American markets: Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Chile. Caller ID company Truecaller launched eSIM services for travelers. The launch comes as the company aims to bolster its balance sheet and diversify business amid dipping ad revenues. The company said its plans will range from 1 GB over 7 days to 20 GB over 30 days. Initially, the launch will make the eSIM product available in 29 countries. The list includes Italy, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Romania, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland, Austria, Finland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, Norway, Chile, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria. Notably, the company’s biggest market, India, is missing from the list. This is likely due to the country’s strict telecom regulations.
