An extra Bank Holiday has been confirmed for some UK households for a week Monday, June 15. But not all of Britain will be able to enjoy a free, extra day off from work as only one constituent nation of the UK will be handed the bonus bank hol. Normally, there are eight Bank Holiday days per year across England and Wales, including New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, early and late May Bank Holidays, August Bank Holiday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. However, Scotland also gets its national day, St Andrew’s Day, on November 30 but not Easter Monday. This June, though, Scotland will get another bonus Bank Holiday a week on Monday. A statement issued by the Scottish Government has confirmed the day with approval from King Charles. The reason is to celebrate Scotland’s participation in World Cup 2026, the first time Scotland has been to a World Cup tournament since 1998.
