‘Captain’s dream’: Hyderabad’s Cummins hails fellow quicks after Bengaluru win

May 23 : Captain Pat Cummins heaped praise on fast bowlers Eshan Malinga and Sakib Hussain as Sunrisers Hyderabad claimed a 55-run win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL). On Friday, Hyderabad racked up a total of 255-4 thanks to Ishan Kishan’s knock of 79 (46) before Hussain and Malinga took three key wickets to slow down Bengaluru’s chase. Hussain and Malinga have bagged a combined 34 wickets in the IPL this season, while Cummins, who missed part of the campaign due to a lumbar bone stress injury, has eight wickets in seven matches. “They’ve been fantastic. I’ve actually learned a lot of from those guys as well,” Australia’s Cummins said. “Eshan Malinga has been the form bowler and he’s mixing up different things. And of course, you know, Sakib there as well. So a captain’s dream.” Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori said the performance of their bowling unit was a key factor in helping them overcome a poor start to the season. “Those three fast bowlers have been exceptional,” he added, …

Scammers Furious That Their Fellow Criminals Are Using AI, Saying It’s Unethical

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech The AI sloppification of the internet comes for us all, even the petty scammers and fraudsters doing business in the darker corners of the web. As a yet-to-be-peer-reviewed study found, old-world internet scammers are getting frustrated as their favorite cybercrime forums turn to generative AI, much the same way Amazon or Reddit have degraded their own sites with the tech — which, you have to admit, is pretty rich coming from a bunch of professional scammers. The study, first covered by Wired, found little evidence that AI tools are fundamentally reshaping the world of cybercrime, contradicting more alarmist warnings that the tools are fueling a novel epidemic of scam and fraud. At the upper echelons of the cybercrime world, large-scale criminal enterprises are largely using the tools for boring tasks like checking errors and probing Google for solutions to coding problems. Among smaller operations, however — scams run by low-skill cybercriminals, as the researchers characterize them — researchers …

Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi calls out anger at fellow Time Lord actors

Doctor Who’s Peter Capaldi calls out anger at fellow Time Lord actors

Twelfth Doctor star Peter Capaldi has expressed his support for his successors in the lead role in Doctor Who, saying he doesn’t know why some people take it “so seriously”. A lifelong fan of the show – having spearheaded the Scottish branch of the sci-fi show’s fan club in the ’70s – Capaldi played the Doctor between 2013 and 2017, before the role was taken on by Jodie Whitaker, who became the first woman to play the character in the mainline show. After a brief return for Tenth Doctor star David Tennant, who played the Fourteenth Doctor in the show’s 60th anniversary episodes, Ncuti Gatwa took on the role, and became the first Black actor to play the part. Both Whitaker and Gatwa’s castings provoked a backlash among some subsections of the fandom and elsewhere online, which Capaldi was asked about in an interview with The Times. Defending their casting, Capaldi said of the sci-fi series: “It reflects its times and it’s a good thing in the world, though it’s become a bit too big, …

Ross Kemp reveals plans for boating trip with fellow EastEnders icons

Ross Kemp has revealed that he has a real life boating trip planned with fellow EastEnders icons Steve McFadden and Paul Bradley. Kemp made the comments during an exclusive interview with Radio Times when asked what other projects he had in the pipeline beyond his much publicised upcoming return to Albert Square. “There’s never been a strategy to any of this, so I don’t see any reason to start now,” he said of his career, before adding that the only thing he was currently committed to was a trip aboard McFadden’s 72ft-long fishing boat with those fellow stars. “It’s sort of a three-men-in-a-boat type of thing,” he explained. “We’ll go off down the Thames and end up having a nice dinner together, which is what gentlemen of our age should be doing.” Asked if there might be room for the trip to be immortalised in a TV documentary, he added: “I think there should be!” Grant will reunite with siblings Phil (Steve McFadden) and Sam (Kim Medcalf). BBC/Jack Barnes/Kieron McCarron Kemp will be reprising his iconic …

The 79-year-old Succession star is not one to mince his words— and he certainly did not hold back when speaking to The Times of London to promote his directorial debut, Glenrothan. Reflecting on his prolific acting career, Cox revealed he turned down the role of the governor in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (a part ultimately played by Jonathan Pryce). He expressed relief in his decision, saying that he was happy he avoided working with Johnny Depp, whom he argued is “so overblown, so overrated.” He then offered a brief but critical assessment of several former collaborators, including 25th Hour co-star Edward Norton, whom he labeled “a pain in the arse”; Iron Will co-star Kevin …

Emmanuel Grégoire elected Paris mayor, succeeding fellow left-winger Anne Hidalgo

Emmanuel Grégoire elected Paris mayor, succeeding fellow left-winger Anne Hidalgo

Socialist frontrunner Emmanuel Grégoire was elected Paris mayor on Sunday, beating right-wing former minister Rachida Dati in the last major test of the French public mood ahead of next year’s all-important presidential election. Grégoire, a 48-year-old former deputy of outgoing Mayor Anne Hidalgo, was credited with around 51% of the vote, trouncing Dati and hard-left rival Sophia Chikirou – and defying forecasts of a close race. “Paris has decided to stay true to its history,” Grégoire told a cheering crowd, vowing to resist the right and far right in the lead-up to next year’s presidential polls.  “Paris will be the heart of the resistance against this alliance of the right, which seeks to take away what we hold most precious and fragile: the simple joy of living together,” he added.  Emmanuel Grégoire defied forecasts of a close race to comfortably win the French capital’s mayoral election. © Kenzo Tribouillard, AFP The newly elected mayor then cycled to City Hall on a Velib’, the French capital’s flagship bike-sharing system, signalling continuity with his predecessors.  His victory follows 25 years of transformational rule under successive left-wing mayors …
