Toxteth thug battered man with his own Zimmer frame after being called a ‘nonce’

Toxteth thug battered man with his own Zimmer frame after being called a ‘nonce’

A thug battered a vulnerable man with his own Zimmer frame after being called a “nonce”. Ryan Graham also placed his fellow YMCA resident, who was nearly 30 years his senior, in a chokehold and punched him in the face. The vicious assault persisted for some five minutes, in spite of hostel workers repeatedly stepping in to separate the two men. He was left in tears as he was locked up yesterday, with a judge having told him: “You have had your chance, and you have not taken it.” Liverpool Crown Court heard on Tuesday that Graham and 62-year-old Leslie Turton, who suffers from arthritis and walks with the use of a mobility aid, both resided in shared YMCA accommodation in Toxteth. But, on August 8 this year, the 33-year-old defendant “became drunk and abusive”, having picked up a glass bottle and swung the object at the “obviously vulnerable” complainant. Iain Criddle, prosecuting, described how the two men were then separated by members of staff, although Graham subsequently pushed past them in order to burst …

How to buy a bike: expert tips for finding the right budget, frame and fit | Cycling

For me, cycling is therapy. It’s calming, meditative and uncomplicated. But there’s a catch. To experience the simple joy of riding a bike, you first have to navigate the maddeningly complex process of buying one. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Learn more. Make no mistake: this is not a straightforward case of marching into Halfords, saying, “One bike, please!” and leaving with a shiny new steed. But, while complicated, it needn’t be stressful. Before you buy, ask yourself three questions: how will I use it? How much am I willing to spend? And what features do I want? Based on your answers, this guide will arm you with what you need to make a confident, informed purchase – no engineering degree required. To help, I’ve enlisted two experts: David Arthur, founder of cycling-tech YouTube channel Just Ride Bikes, and Stephen Roche, owner of bike-fitting and custom-build studio the Bike Tailor. Inside the Making of the Final Frame of ‘Hacks’

Inside the Making of the Final Frame of ‘Hacks’

Nailing the final shot of Hacks proved to be a gargantuan effort across departments — particularly the transition from Ava (Hannah Einbinder) and Deborah (Jean Smart) walking the streets of Paris beneath the Eiffel Tower to the duo laughing underneath the replica on the Las Vegas Strip. The latter was “actually superimposed … in camera, so the Steadicam operator [Joel Marsh and cinematographer Adam Bricker] could see the Las Vegas Eiffel Tower in his monitor” when they shot the real one in Paris, explains director and co-creator Lucia Aniello. Working with the VFX team, the editors were then able to cut from France to Nevada in a seamless transition. Getting the final emotional beats of the series right was equally taxing. “We almost never reshoot things,” Aniello says, “but we were a little disappointed that the sky wasn’t quite right and the light wasn’t there.” Fortunately, the locations team booked out the Bellagio and Caesars Palace for an entire week, giving the crew the opportunity to reshoot. Production had to work with both hotels to …

Malaysia back in the F1 frame as Bahrain hopes recede

Malaysia back in the F1 frame as Bahrain hopes recede

BUDAPEST: The Malaysian Grand Prix could return to the Formula One calendar as a stand-in this season as hopes of racing in Bahrain recede due to conflict in the region, informed sources said on Thursday (Jul 23). The races at Sakhir and Saudi Arabia (Jeddah) in April were both called off due to the Iran war but attempts to reschedule a round in Bahrain had looked promising until the situation flared up again. Multiple sources at the Hungarian Grand Prix told Reuters there were a number of replacement options being looked at, with nothing decided, but Malaysia’s Sepang circuit was one of those on the list. A likely slot would be between Baku on Sep 26 and Singapore on Oct 11. MALAYSIA OFF THE CALENDAR SINCE 2017 Malaysia last hosted a Formula One Grand Prix in 2017 but has remained on the MotoGP calendar and is of the grade required by governing body, the FIA. State oil company Petronas is also a partner of current Formula One leaders Mercedes. Another alternative in the Asia region …

July 4th weekend is here, and while it’s a great excuse to stay offline, there are some enticing reasons to consider some online shopping. The 65-inch model is on sale for $750 — 32% off the original price of $1,200.  I paid about the same price for this TV back during Cyber Week 2025, thanks to some promo deals, so it’s truly a great deal to get this price outright.  Editor in Chief Kerry Wan reviewed the Canvas TV upon its …

Valuable Spanish painting left on street salvaged by man who liked its frame

Valuable Spanish painting left on street salvaged by man who liked its frame

The mystery of a small and very valuable picture by the Spanish artist Joaquín Sorolla that vanished over the weekend has been solved after a man told police he had mistaken the painting for junk when he found it on a Seville street but rescued it because he liked the frame. Rather than being entranced by the painting’s subject matter – two boats off a beach – Andrés Hurtado was instead captivated by its handsome gold frame. What Hurtado, 57, did not know when he happened across the work last Saturday was that it was a painting by Sorolla, a late 19th- and early 20th-century Spanish artist renowned for his mastery of light and his beach scenes. Nor did he know that the painting belonged to a Seville family who have owned it for many years, and who were in the habit of taking it on holiday with them. They had intended to pack the picture into the boot of their car as they headed to the beach but had accidentally left it leaning against …

Aura’s impressive e-ink photo frame doesn’t even look digital

Aura’s impressive e-ink photo frame doesn’t even look digital

What’s the most cliche possible gift you can give a relative? A digital photo frame, displaying a rotating slideshow of family photos. Now Aura has completely refreshed this product space with its gorgeous Aura Ink frame, which uses e-ink to create a display that doesn’t even look digital. Digital frames have always been so popular (yet mostly disappointing) because there’s an undeniable allure to the idea of them — it feels like magic to imagine hanging artwork on your wall that you can change depending on your mood. In practice, these devices usually look clunky. You need to plug them in and figure out how to hide a bulky cord, and does anyone even want another bright screen in their home anyway? This problem was already on the Aura founders’ minds when they started the company 10 years ago, but color e-ink wasn’t feasible until now to use in a digital frame. “E-ink is definitely next level,” co-founder and CTO Eric Jensen told TechCrunch. “We have people tell us that they hung it up, had …
