Misan Harriman complaints AI generated says IPSO

Misan Harriman complaints AI generated says IPSO

Telegraph article which started furore Press regulator IPSO says it has received nearly 25,000 accuracy complaints relating to coverage in multiple newspapers of comments made by Misan Harriman about an incident where two Jewish men were attacked with a knife in Golders Green, London. IPSO raised concerns that many of the complaints may have been generated using artificial intelligence. As a result the watchdog has alerted the Information Commissioner and sought guidance. A platform called Newscord says more than 100,000 complaints have been generated using a service whereby it generates detailed complaint letters on behalf of users at the click of a button. Press Gazette understands the suspicion is that AI was used to file multiple complaints from fake people using this platform. It highlighted news reports and leader columns in the Telegraph, Times, GB News, Mail, Express and Evening Standard about Harriman, a filmmaker and chairman of the Southbank Centre. Harriman has also complained to IPSO. The initial Telegraph story which started the furore was headlined: “Arts Council-funded venue chief shares Golders Green ‘conspiracy’.” …

In a first, wind and solar generated more power than gas globally in April 2026

Photo: Vestas Wind and solar just hit a major global milestone: For the first time ever, they generated more electricity than gas for the full month of April. According to new analysis from independent energy think tank Ember, wind and solar produced 22% of the world’s electricity in April 2026, compared to 20% from gas. Together, the two renewable sources generated a record 531 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity during the month, 54 TWh more than gas plants generated globally, at 477 TWh. The timing is notable. April marked the first full month of the latest global energy crisis tied to the conflict in the Middle East, and the data shows how quickly renewables are changing the power mix even as fossil fuel markets remain volatile. Five years ago, in April 2021, gas generation was almost identical to today’s level at 476 TWh. But back then, wind and solar combined generated just 245 TWh – less than half of what they produced this April. Advertisement – scroll for more content Wind and solar continue to grow …

Spotify Now Plays Personal Podcasts Generated by Your AI Agent

Spotify Now Plays Personal Podcasts Generated by Your AI Agent

Spotify has launched a new feature that lets users save AI-generated audio briefings called Personal Podcasts directly to their Spotify library. It uses a new command-line tool for desktop that works with AI coding agents like OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code. After you install the Save to Spotify CLI from GitHub and sign into your Spotify account, you can prompt the agent to generate a custom audio piece, like a daily news digest, a study guide pulled from class notes, or a weekly itinerary. Once generated, it appears alongside your music and regular podcasts in Your Library. Here’s how Spotify frames it. From the company’s newsroom post: People are already starting to use their agents to create personal audio that guides their day: from summaries of class notes before an exam to briefings of what’s on their calendar. And they’re asking for a way to listen to it on Spotify, where they already listen to everything else. Now, we’re making it possible to save and play Personal Podcasts on Spotify. Your agent can generate …

People consistently devalue creative writing generated by artificial intelligence

People consistently devalue creative writing generated by artificial intelligence

A recent study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General suggests that people consistently judge creative writing more harshly if they believe it was created by artificial intelligence. This bias appears incredibly difficult to overcome, pointing to a persistent human preference for art created by people. Generative artificial intelligence refers to computer programs capable of producing new text, images, or music by predicting patterns from massive amounts of data. Tools like ChatGPT and Claude can now write essays, poems, and stories that read very much like they were written by a real person. As these technologies become more common, scientists wanted to understand how people react to computer-generated art. “We started this project in early 2023, shortly after the launch of ChatGPT. From my early interactions with the technology, it was clear to me that this tool was capable of creative production, and I was very curious about whether and how humans would react to AI-produced creative goods,” explained study author Manav Raj, an assistant professor in management at the Wharton School of the …

Swiss finance minister files criminal charges over remarks generated by Elon Musk’s Grok – POLITICO

Swiss finance minister files criminal charges over remarks generated by Elon Musk’s Grok – POLITICO

“One must fundamentally defend oneself against such misogynistic statements,” the spokesperson said in a statement shared with POLITICO. She argued the X post wasn’t a “contribution protected by freedom of expression or part of the political debate, but rather a pure denigration of a woman.” X has drawn global outrage since the year began over Grok’s generation of nudified pictures and child sexual abuse material. The European Commission in January launched a probe into the company over the matter. Keller-Sutter heads the Federal Finance Department and is one of seven members of the Swiss Federal Council, the country’s highest executive authority. Last year she served as the president of Switzerland. X did not immediately respond to POLITICO’s request for comment. Source link

More fake and AI generated experts con their way into media

Faces of fakery (left to right): perfume writer Esme Gelder (AI generated byline pic and written work), sex expert (uses photo of porn actress with another name), travel expert Jessie Chambers (AI generated pic and articles). New research from Press Gazette has uncovered a fresh tranche of likely fake and AI-generated experts making their way into UK publications. Press Gazette looked at 50 pieces each from five UK newsbrands which quoted “experts”. The titles were selected because they have all come up in previous Press Gazette research as having published fake and likely AI-generated content shared by PRs. Out of a sample of 250 expert-quoting articles published in The Sun, Daily Express, Mirror, Daily Mail and Daily Star in 2025 and late 2024, 27 experts do not exist, are impossible to track down/verify online or were not named in the first place. Many more stories (not included in the 27) quoted sources where the expertise was merely questionable, such as a widely-quoted gut health expert dispensing health advice with no apparent medical qualifications, quoted in …

Billions in tax revenue would be generated by expanding sports betting legalization

Billions in tax revenue would be generated by expanding sports betting legalization

Billions of tax revenue would be generated if all 50 states in the US made sports betting legal, a report by the Tax Foundation claims. If all states established statewide gambling markets, the Tax Foundation estimates that gross gaming revenue (GGR) would increase by $15.6 billion per year. If all 50 states established legal, open, statewide sports gaming markets, a 10 percent GGR tax would generate an additional $1.6 billion per year in tax revenue. Read more: https://t.co/Hyj896fF1B — Tax Foundation (@TaxFoundation) January 22, 2026 This figure is more than double what is being reported right now, and legal sports betting in all states would generate $1.6 billion annually in tax revenue, assuming a 10% GGR tax. Despite most states legalizing sports wagering in some form, only 30 states allow bettors to utilize online betting platforms. A Tax Foundation report estimates that legalizing sports betting in all 50 U.S. states could generate $1.6 billion in annual tax revenue, with the biggest gains coming from California, Texas, and Florida. Should legalization occur in all states, the …

New Law Would Let Grok Victims Sue Creeps Who Generated Nonconsensual Nudes

Source: Kevin Dietsch / Getty Images On Tuesday, the US senate passed a new law that would allow victims to sue individuals who use AI models like Grok to generate non-consensual nudes and other sexually explicit images. Dubbed the Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits (DEFIANCE) Act, it expands on another law passed last year, the Take It Down Act, which made it illegal to distribute nonconsensual intimate images and required social media companies to remove them within 48 hours, by empowering victims to go after the people responsible for generating the images, including seeking damages and imposing restraining orders, Bloomberg noted. The new law was put forth by Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill) and passed unanimously. “Give to the victims their day in court to hold those responsible who continue to publish these images at their expense,” Durbin said in a speech on the Senate floor, via The Hill. “Today, we are one step closer to making this a reality.” The bill comes as Elon Musk’s X is …

Illegal child abuse material generated by X’s artificial intelligence Grok, says UK watchdog | Science, Climate & Tech News

Criminals have used Grok, Elon Musk’s AI, to create child sexual abuse imagery, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has reported. For days, the IWF has been receiving reports from internet users that Grok had created child abuse images, but that content hadn’t crossed the threshold into illegal content. Now, it has, says the IWF. It is one of the few organisations around the world that is allowed to proactively track down child abuse material and found the material in a dark web forum. Image: An IWF analyst shows Sky News a mocked-up version of a report about child sexual abuse imagery The users sharing the material boasted about how they’d used Grok to create it. “Following reports that the AI chatbot Grok has generated sexual imagery of children, we can confirm our analysts have discovered criminal imagery of children aged between 11 and 13 which appears to have been created using the tool,” said Ngaire Alexander, head of hotline at the IWF. X and xAI, both owned by billionaire Elon Musk, have come under fire …

Cops Forced to Explain Why AI Generated Police Report Claimed Officer Transformed Into Frog

Cops Forced to Explain Why AI Generated Police Report Claimed Officer Transformed Into Frog

Law enforcement has quickly embraced AI for everything from drafting police reports to facial recognition. The results have been predictably dismal. In one particularly glaring — and unintentionally comedic — instance, the police department in Heber City, Utah, was forced to explain why a police report software declared that an officer had somehow shapeshifted into a frog. As Salt Lake City-based Fox 13 reports, the flawed tool seems to have picked up on some unrelated background chatter to devise its fantastical fairy tale ending. “The body cam software and the AI report writing software picked up on the movie that was playing in the background, which happened to be ‘The Princess and the Frog,’” police sergeant Rick Keel told the broadcaster, referring to Disney’s 2009 musical comedy. “That’s when we learned the importance of correcting these AI-generated reports.” The department had begun testing an AI-powered software called Draft One to automatically generate police reports from body camera footage. The goal was to reduce the amount of paperwork — but considering that immense mistakes are falling …
