Liza Minnelli Makes Surprise Appearance at the GLAAD Media Awards

The GLAAD Media Awards closed with a big surprise on Thursday night, as Liza Minnelli appeared in the show’s final moments to accept the inaugural Liza Minnelli Storyteller Award. The star sat in a director’s chair surrounded by dancers and close friend/collaborator Michael Feinstein, as she told the room of LGBTQ+ creators and allies, “I’m so glad to be with you. You make me so proud, because you’re strong and you stand up for what you believe in. You really do, and it’s so nice to be here with you. I feel like a 5-year-old, I didn’t make up a speech so now I’m just rattling away.” Minnelli turns 80 next week, and following her remarks a birthday cake was brought out as the whole crowd inside the Beverly Hilton sang her happy birthday. The honor was also timed to her upcoming memoir Kids, Wait Till You Hear This!, which comes out March 10. Heated Rivalry, Stranger Things Among Winners at GLAAD Media Awards

GLAAD got in on awards season on Thursday night, handing out more than 30 awards for fair, accurate and inclusive LGBTQ stories across movies, TV, music, podcasts and journalism at its annual GLAAD Media Awards. The show, hosted by Jonathan Bennett from Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton Hotel, counted Heated Rivalry, Stranger Things, Palm Royale, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Traitors, Young Miko and KATSEYE among the big winners. A number of special honors were also given out, as Quinta Brunson received the Vanguard Award and Las Culturistas podcast hosts Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers received the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, following an opening performance from Demi Lovato. For those not in the room, the 37th GLAAD Media Awards will stream exclusively on Hulu beginning March 21. Demi Lovato to Perform at GLAAD Awards, ‘Heated Rivalry’ Team Attends

The GLAAD Media Awards program is heating up. Demi Lovato is confirmed to perform at the 37th annual event — taking place in Los Angeles on March 16, and streaming on Hulu — ahead of launching her arena tour, It’s Not That Deep, in April. The show has also found a host in Jonathan Bennett. Both Lovato and Bennett are GLAAD Award winners; a Vanguard Award for her and outstanding film, streaming or TV, for Hallmark’s The Groomsmen: Second Chances for him. (Lovato’s GLAAD performance will be presented by Hyundai Motor America.) Along with news of the host and performer, GLAAD has also announced a roster of confirmed guests who will be in the room next month, including “cast and creatives” from the pop culture phenomenon Heated Rivalry, which is nominated.
