All the Liquid Glass Changes in macOS Golden Gate

All the Liquid Glass Changes in macOS Golden Gate

When Liquid Glass launched in macOS Tahoe, Apple faced criticism over how the design looked on the Mac. Some people felt that Liquid Glass in ‌macOS Tahoe‌ was an afterthought with little impact from the design update, while others had issues with contrast, readability, rounded corners, and design consistency. There were long complaint threads on the MacRumors forums and on Reddit, and some people refused to update. Apple is making several changes to Liquid Glass and the overall macOS Golden Gate design, and while subtle, some of the changes could make Liquid Glass on Mac easier to digest. Transparency and Diffusion Apple added a full Liquid Glass slider under System Settings > Appearance. It changes the translucency of Liquid Glass elements, and users can choose a clear version of Liquid Glass that allows some of the background to show through, select a more opaque, tinted version that improves the legibility of text, or choose something in between. Unfortunately, there is no ultra-clear version of Liquid Glass available with the slider. Even the setting that’s as …

Liquid Glass for Linux? PearOS makes another Mac move – how it looks now

Jack Wallen/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways PearOS is aiming for Apple’s Liquid Glass desktop. The distribution is far from ready for general usage. PearOS gives you an Apple Intelligence-like experience as well. I’ve been keeping an eye on PearOS for some time. I covered PearOS before, calling it a Linux distro that makes your old laptop feel like a Mac. Since that original review, the developers have decided to up the ante and bring about a Liquid Glass-like look for the distribution. And although PearOS still has its quirks — the development “team” consists of one person, which means progress is slow — the latest release has a new base, a new design, and a “new everything.” Also: The best Linux laptops in 2025: Expert tested for students, hobbyists, and pros The new release is still based on Arch Linux and KDE Plasma, and is still promising the new desktop environment, Soda, but that portion of the project is still listed as “currently unavailable.” This latest version is …

Donald Trump Watched the Knicks Game 3 From Inside a Bulletproof Glass Box

Donald Trump Watched the Knicks Game 3 From Inside a Bulletproof Glass Box

“Real fans waited 30 plus years for it,” Anthony Martinez from New Jersey said. “Hopefully he doesn’t show up for game four, and you know we get to enjoy it outside.” Yishai Berkowitz, another New Jerseyan, seemed conflicted about it all. “I don’t know how it’s supposed to work,” he said. “The president should be able to come…to have a watch.” The outcry, he suggested, was partly manufactured. “People today are much more internet focused,” Berkowitz said, “because if they were really fans, they would be here anyway.” Monique Cuebas from the Bronx was just happy to be a part of the moment—to catch a glimpse of Trump, even from a distance. “I didn’t see him,” she said, “but I saw his shape,” noting that anything involving billionaires and millionaires provides her a sense of “hype.” Cuebas suggested Trump’s real motivation for attending the game was that “he likes the attention,” but that didn’t bother her. Trump certainly drew attention—much more so than Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who sat in the nosebleeds with state lawmakers and …

The 89-year-old, a pivotal figure in the British studio glass movement, credits his parents, Edith and Freddy, with enabling his career by managing to flee to Bradford. Layton is renowned for transforming glass from an industrial material into a celebrated art form, a path he states was “all because Edith and Freddy (his parents) managed to get away”. The famous artist told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs: “We caught the last train out in August, arrived here at the end of August, and war was declared a few days later, so it was a narrow escape. “When I get together with my family, or when I think about my family at all, I just think what a miracle, …

MacOS 27 Rumors: End of Intel Support, Smarter Siri, Tweaks to Liquid Glass and More

Apple’s annual developers conference, WWDC 2026, kicks off on Monday. Tim Cook will deliver his last WWDC keynote as Apple CEO, where he’s expected to share previews of the next versions of the company’s various software platforms. Likely to take center stage is iOS 27, but we will also get a glimpse at MacOS 27, which will arrive alongside its mobile sibling in a few months. The usual cycle is this: a preview and developer beta in June at WWDC, followed by a public beta in July before the official version launches in September. MacOS 27 is expected to focus more on performance and stability improvements than introducing a drastic design shift or a bevy of new features. That said, it appears the next version of MacOS will look and act a bit differently than last year’s MacOS 26 Tahoe.  Check out what could be coming to your Mac this fall, and find out if your current Mac will be able to run the update. Europe’s stained glass is stained with antisemitism

Europe’s stained glass is stained with antisemitism

(RNS) — I have done my share of traveling in Europe, and when I am there, I visit cathedrals. Most are majestic, and they are filled with Christian art that would take a decent docent a decade to unpack for me. I have never been to Brussels, though I would like to visit. And when I am there, I expect to make a special trip to the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula. That is the subject of Flora Cassen’s new book, “Stained Glass: A Reflective History of Antisemitism.” The cathedral is, by all accounts, a masterpiece. Built between the 13th and 15th centuries, it rises above the old town on its own little hill, and when the lights hit the stonework at night, it looks like lace carved out of sky. “Stained Glass: A Reflective History of Antisemitism” by Flora Cassen. And …

When the doors opened, fans surged forward to enter the building and secure viewing spots for Zhang’s appearance, Taiwanese outlet ETtoday reported. Videos circulating on Chinese social media appeared to show the pressure from the crowd shattering a large section of the mall’s glass entrance doors, scattering broken glass across the ground. Paris’s Notre Dame cathedral in the midst of a battle over its stained glass

Paris’s Notre Dame cathedral in the midst of a battle over its stained glass

When the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris was ravaged by a fire, its historic stained-glass windows were miraculously left unharmed. But to commemorate the incident, an idea emerged to replace six windows with new ones – prompting protest from heritage groups. The matter was brought to court, and in a first decision a Parisian court went against heritage groups. FRANCE 24’s Shirli Sitbon tells us more about the controversy. The Big Toast: Why Stephen Fry, Prue Leith and Mo Farah are raising a glass to the people they’ll never forget

The Big Toast: Why Stephen Fry, Prue Leith and Mo Farah are raising a glass to the people they’ll never forget

As Brits, we’re famously awkward about talking about the important stuff: money, politics and most of all, death. Research shows that more than one in four of us feel uncomfortable discussing death – yet 74 per cent would raise a drink in someone’s memory. That’s exactly what we’re all invited to do on Monday 25th May for Celebration Day. Inspired by remembrance occasions such as Mexico’s famous Day of the Dead – where people honour those who have died with colourful and joyous celebrations – Celebration Day encourages us to pause and remember those who are no longer with us. This year the nation will raise a glass, cup or mug for The Big Toast at 7pm, to mark the memory of someone special. It’s a chance to reflect and remember those who have shaped our lives, from family and friends to inspirational public figures. Celebrating the people who shaped us Dame Prue Leith will be toasting her ‘great influence’ and ‘best friend’, younger brother Jamie (Simon Jacobs/PinPep (Image taken at ‘The Portrait Restaurant by …

Julie Burton creates glass jewelry, ceramics by hand in her L.A. ADU

Julie Burton creates glass jewelry, ceramics by hand in her L.A. ADU

Just about every corner of Julie Burton’s Silver Lake studio is filled with sparkling glass jewelry — some real, some symbolic — and whimsical ceramic figures inspired by Midcentury Modern design. Elegant hand-blown glass vases sit beside ceramic crater pots on warm cherry shelves. Bright teardrop earrings hang from metal tins filled with Japanese cooling beads. In the kitchen, hand-carved ceramic birds, whales, elephants and owls look out from the counters, surrounded by lidded cache pots and heavy candlestick holders that feel good in your hand. Nature shows up everywhere in her studio: rocks in glass jars, pieces of driftwood and tiny “forests” she’s made from glass, brass and walnut. “I’m a full-time hallucinator without drugs,” Burton says jokingly about her wide range of work. “If I’m not making something, I’m always looking around and thinking about what to make next.” Glass necklaces by Julie Burton for Verre Modern, starting at $120.
