Amazon Delivery Driver Smart Glasses Will Snap Pictures of… Everything?

Amazon Delivery Driver Smart Glasses Will Snap Pictures of… Everything?

A few days ago, I crossed paths with an Amazon delivery driver who was wearing some odd-looking glasses. I paused, wondering if it was a pair of the new AI smart glasses (I reported on them last year) or if he just had questionable taste in eyewear. After Wednesday’s news, my curiosity has evolved into concern. In a Bloomberg opinion piece, reporter Dave Lee shared his thoughts on the new AI smart glasses based on an interview with Amazon executive Viraj Chatterjee, who is spearheading the rollout. According to the report, Amazon aims to have 5,000 drivers wearing the glasses by the end of 2026, expanding to more than 20,000 by the end of 2027. The e-commerce giant says the new AI smart glasses will track a driver’s shift from beginning to end to ensure quicker, more reliable deliveries, reduce errors and streamline delivery by giving drivers hands-free guidance. But Bloomberg’s Lee said that “the company is sleepwalking into yet another invasion-of-privacy furor.” While a driver is on foot, the glasses capture static photos of …

Spring 2027 Launch Set for the $1,300 Meta VR Glasses

Meta has officially unveiled its VR glasses at Connect 2026, introducing a modular design that separates the lightweight glasses from a compact “Compute Puck.” Weighing just 100 grams, the glasses prioritize comfort while the puck, equipped with a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, handles the heavy processing. According to TechAvid, this setup allows for advanced features […] The post Spring 2027 Launch Set for the $1,300 Meta VR Glasses appeared first on Geeky Gadgets. Source link

At Meta Connect, the company’s smart glasses were everywhere

At Meta Connect, the company’s smart glasses were everywhere

If there was one thing that was obvious this from Meta Connect this year, it’s that the social media giant is all-in on its burgeoning line of smart glasses. Indeed, the glasses were pretty much everywhere at the annual event, where Meta shows off its newest hardware and AI products. Both Meta staff and the flocks of influencers who frequent the event seemed to arrive with the glasses glued to their faces. Most of the demos the company offered this week also involved the glasses. I swiftly joined the bespectacled masses and found myself trying on pair after pair of Meta’s high-tech specs. One of the more notable products I had an opportunity to demo were Meta’s new, still-unreleased, audio-only smart glasses. News of these glasses emerged not long after the company weathered accusations that it was selling “pervert glasses,” with critics alleging that its camera-equipped specs could be used for nefarious surveillance purposes. The new glasses come equipped with six microphones, but no camera, and they have no native way to record your surroundings, …

Meta VR Glasses Plan Imax Entertainment Push

Meta VR Glasses Plan Imax Entertainment Push

The success of Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey brought new awareness to the different Imax experiences out there. Consumers flocked to cinemas equipped with Imax’s rickety old 50 mm film projectors, while those that were unable to snag those coveted tickets sought out Imax theaters that were digital but could show the film in its full-scale, immersive glory. Meta is betting that it can bring a little bit of that magic to the home. Or the office, or the coffee shop, or even a cross-country flight. At the tech giant’s Menlo Park headquarters this week, CEO Mark Zuckerberg told the crowd of partners, developers, creators and journalists that over the last few years “we made the decision to focus a little bit less on metaverse for now, build fewer VR devices, and only release them when we have real breakthroughs.” “This is a breakthrough,” he added, grabbing a pair of what the company calls Meta VR Glasses, describing it as being a “cinema” a “computer” and a “console” all in one. And it will be, …

These Lightweight Audio Memory-Recording Glasses Might Foreshadow Meta’s Next Step (and Apple’s)

These Lightweight Audio Memory-Recording Glasses Might Foreshadow Meta’s Next Step (and Apple’s)

The multiple pairs of smart glasses prototypes I’m trying on are attractive, familiar and lightweight. They look normal, fit my face well and have no cameras. All they have on board is audio and microphone support. These Vonder smart glasses are all about listening to you as much as to others. And they can tell the difference. Meta announced its own camera-free audio glasses this week, but Vonder, a company founded by execs from display glasses maker Viture, along with Guillaume Hamon, the chief brand officer, goes further. I met with Hamon and David Jiang, Viture’s CEO and co-founder, in New York a few weeks ago to learn about their new $299 to $399 glasses, which fit a wide range of eye prescriptions but also require a monthly paid AI subscription.  Viture’s frames look totally normal, are lightweight, and lack cameras.Scott Stein/CNET Bone conduction inside Viture’s tethered wearables are more like wearable monitors in glasses form with augmented-reality bells and whistles. Vonder has no displays and leans on extended battery life and a unique approach …

Meta’s new ,300 VR Glasses will weigh less than a stick of butter when they hit the market in 2027

Meta’s new $1,300 VR Glasses will weigh less than a stick of butter when they hit the market in 2027

Meta’s next VR headset isn’t a headset. Meta VR Glasses weigh about 100 grams (about the same as a deck of cards) because the processor, the battery, and the storage all moved out of the frames and into a puck that clips to your pocket. They’ll cost $1,299.99 when they ship in spring 2027, and they run without controllers. For a comparison, the Quest 3 that people are wearing right now weighs 515 grams. That was the centerpiece of the Meta Connect event on Tuesday night, but the company also introduced a $349 pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses with no camera at all, a third generation of the camera-equipped Ray-Ban Meta line at $449, a batch of software for the Meta Ray-Ban Display, and a transatlantic cable rated for a petabit per second. Last year’s Connect was about putting a screen inside a pair of Ray-Bans. This one is about taking the weight off your face. PrismML brings its tiny LLMs to Qualcomm-powered smart glasses

PrismML brings its tiny LLMs to Qualcomm-powered smart glasses

The AI Lab PrismML — founded by Caltech researchers and advised by UC Berkeley’s Ion Stoica — has created a version of its tiny language models for smart glasses running on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips. On Wednesday, at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, the chipmaker showcased PrismML’s 1-bit Bonsai LLM, which can be run locally on AI smart glasses built on the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 Platform. As TechCrunch previously reported, PrismML’s claim to fame is that it shrinks larger models substantially (in this case, by 4x), while retaining almost all of their performance on standard benchmarks. The smart glasses version is a 2-billion-parameter model tuned for vision and language, so wearers can ask what they’re looking at in real time. Prism’s larger goal is open-weight AI that runs on devices and makes better use of the computing power they already have. The startup pitches this as an alternative to depending on the privacy promises of proprietary AI labs and their insatiable need for more compute. Releasing a model for Qualcomm’s chip is a step toward that vision. …

Meta VR glasses vs Meta Quest 3: How they compare

Meta VR glasses vs Meta Quest 3: How they compare

At Meta Connect on Wednesday night, Mark Zuckerberg unveiled what could be the next frontier of VR hardware for the company: the Meta VR glasses. These new specs blend the form factor of regular smart glasses with the stereoscopic 3D and virtual reality capabilities of a Quest headset. But how, exactly, do these glasses compare with the Quest 3? We can’t directly test the glasses just yet, but even on paper, there are some notable differences to consider. SEE ALSO: Meta’s new VR glasses: We tried them, plus Muse on Meta’s AI glasses Meta VR Glasses vs. Quest 3: Price The most obvious difference between these two devices, aside from the way they look, is the price. The VR Glasses, when they launch in 2027, will start at $1,299. The Quest 3, meanwhile, can currently be had for just $599. One of these VR devices costs literally more than twice as much as the other, so set your expectations accordingly. Meta VR Glasses vs. Quest 3: Specs There’s that puck.
