Gov. Walz And AG Ellison To Testify At March 4 Hearing On Fraud In Minnesota

Tim Walz may no longer be seeking reelection as governor, but the questions surrounding the fraud that unfolded on his watch are not going away. Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison are now headed to Capitol Hill to face a congressional investigation into welfare fraud in Minnesota. Both men are scheduled to testify on March 4 before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. “Americans deserve answers about the rampant misuse of taxpayer dollars in Minnesota’s social services programs that occurred on Governor Walz’s and Attorney General Ellison’s watch,” Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said in a statement. “The House Oversight Committee recently heard sworn testimony from Minnesota state lawmakers who stated that Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison failed to act to stop this widespread fraud and retaliated against whistleblowers who raised concerns.” He added, “We look forward to questioning Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison under oath about this scandal to ensure transparency and accountability for the American people, and to advance solutions to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse and impose stronger penalties …

Pa. Gov. Josh Shapiro Files Brief Against Removal of Slavery Exhibit

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro filed an amicus brief on Tuesday in support of the City of Philadelphia’s lawsuit against the Trump administration’s removal of an exhibit about slavery at the Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia. That exhibit, entitled “Freedom and Slavery in the Making of a New Nation,” served as a memorial to the nine enslaved people who worked at the President’s House Site, where George Washington lived for the majority of his presidency. (The White House wasn’t completed until 1800, during John Adams’s presidency.) Other panels of the exhibit discussed the slave trade and slave economy, according to the New York Times. Related Articles Independence National Historical Park, which also includes Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, is managed by the National Park Service. The Interior Department removed the exhibit last week, citing President Donald Trump’s March 2025 executive order in which he listed Independence National Historical Park as being subjected to the “corrosive ideology” of acknowledging the historical accuracy of slavery in this country and that US Presidents owned slaves by falsely …

“Not A Pullback”: Trump Dismisses Bovino Departure As Border Czar Homan Meets With Gov. Walz, Mayor Frey

Authored by Aldgra Fredly via The Epoch Times, Border czar Tom Homan said on Jan. 27 that he met with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey individually amid ongoing protests against federal immigration enforcement in the state. The meetings were held as anti-ICE protests intensified in Minnesota following the deaths of two Minneapolis residents protesting in separate incidents this month during immigration enforcement. Homan, in a post on X, described the meetings as productive and said he also spoke with senior law enforcement officials “to discuss the issues on the ground” in Minnesota. “We all agree that we need to support our law enforcement officers and get criminals off the streets,” he said. “While we don’t agree on everything, these meetings were a productive starting point and I look forward to more conversations with key stakeholders in the days ahead. “President Trump has been clear: he wants American cities to be safe and secure for law-abiding residents—and they will be.” Homan did not provide specific details about the discussions during his meetings …

Gov. Walz calls on Trump to halt ICE operations in Minnesota after fatal shooting

A federal agent cordons off the area as people gather at the scene of a shooting involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Jan. 24, 2026. Tim Evans | Reuters Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Saturday called on President Donald Trump to end sweeping Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the state after a second fatal shooting this month by federal agents in Minneapolis. “I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning,” Walz wrote in a post on X. “Minnesota has had it. This is sickening. The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.” At a briefing Saturday afternoon, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said authorities had identified the victim as a 37-year-old white male and Minneapolis resident, adding that the man had no known criminal history beyond traffic citations. The man was later identified as ICU nurse Alex Pretti by his parents and the Associated Press. “The only interaction that we are aware of with …

Gov. Lamont Relents to Pressure From CT Farmers to Stave off Tax Hike

Gov. Ned Lamont ordered his administration to hold off on issuing new valuations for agricultural land Monday, bowing to pressure from farmers who argued that the changes would lead to huge tax hikes and force some families to sell their land. Lamont said that the canceled assessments — which in some cases would have caused the taxable value of farmland to double — were the result of an “unforeseen lack of data” the state had attempted to collect in an effort to determine the going rate for Connecticut’s dwindling amount of available farmland. The decision will keep in place, for now, recommended land values that were last adjusted in 2020. In addition to halting the proposed reassessments, the governor also convened a working group of farmers, municipal leaders, assessors and officials with the state’s Department of Agriculture to propose reforms to the process by which the state collects data and assesses the value of farmland, in an effort to avoid large price spikes in the future. “Family farms are vital to Connecticut’s economy and are …

Gov. Newsom ‘Had No Clue’ California College of the Arts Would Close

When news broke last week that California College of the Arts would close in 2027, the announcement came as a shock to students and the broader art world. It also appears to have caught one key figure off guard: Governor Gavin Newsom. The San Francisco Standard reported that text messages sent by Newsom after the announcement suggested he “had no clue” and received “no heads up” about CCA’s impending closure, now slated for the end of the 2026–27 academic year. CCA and its president, David Howse, disputed that account, however, telling the Standard that Newsom had been notified the Monday before the announcement. A meeting between CCA leadership and the governor’s office to discuss the transition is scheduled for this week. Related Articles Founded in 1907 in Berkeley, CCA is the last remaining nonprofit, standalone art school in San Francisco. The school has said it will sell its campus to Vanderbilt University, as the Nashville-based institution looks to expand its footprint and recruit talent in Silicon Valley. Although CCA has struggled financially in recent years, …

Pennsylvania Gov. Shapiro Has $30 Million for His Reelection Bid, a New State Record

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro set another campaign finance record for Pennsylvania with $30 million on hand as he seeks a second term this fall, his campaign said Tuesday. Pennsylvania has emerged as the nation’s premier presidential battleground state, and Shapiro’s strong showing in the 2022 governor’s race elevated his profile within the Democratic Party, where he’s viewed as a potential 2028 White House contender. In the general election, Shapiro, 52, is expected to face Stacy Garrity, the twice-elected state treasurer who has been endorsed by the state Republican Party. Garrity had yet to report campaign fundraising details as of Tuesday. The deadline to file campaign finance reports with the state is Jan. 31. Shapiro isn’t expected to face a serious challenge in the May 19 primary election. The deadline to submit paperwork to get on the primary election ballot is March 10. Shapiro’s $30 million dwarfs the previous state record for a candidate heading into an election year. Shapiro set the previous record, reporting $13.4 million at the start of 2022. …

End religious discrimination in school travel, NSS urges Welsh Gov

End religious discrimination in school travel, NSS urges Welsh Gov

The National Secular Society has told the Welsh Government that school transport policies which privilege religious families should end. The Welsh Government is consulting on updated guidance for learner travel, including on state-funded transport to schools. Responding to the consultation, the NSS urged the Welsh Government to remove legal provisions which permit state-funded transport to faith schools that are not considered the pupil’s nearest school. Exemptions in equality law allow local authorities to provide “free” transport to a faith school if the local authority considers it to be the “nearest suitable school” and if the parents’ school preference is based on religion. All state-funded faith schools in Wales are either Anglican or Catholic. However, no similar provision exists for families who choose a secular school because they want a nonreligious education for their children. The NSS said this creates an “asymmetry”, where Anglican and Catholic families are treated more favourably than nonreligious families and families belonging to minority religions. This leads to “unacceptable, and potentially illegal, discrimination against parents and children from nonreligious and minority …
