April 7 : Corinthians have appointed former Brazil interim coach Fernando Diniz after sacking Dorival Junior amid an eight-match winless run in all competitions, the Brazilian club said late on Monday. Dorival, also a former Brazil coach, was dismiSssed after Sunday’s 1-0 home loss to Internacional in Brazil’s Serie A, which left 16th-placed Corinthians two points above the relegation zone. Former midfielder Diniz, who briefly played for Corinthians, led Fluminense to the Copa Libertadores title in 2023, before winning the Recopa Sudamericana the following year. During that same period, he also served as Brazil’s interim coach for six months, before he was sacked in January 2024 following Brazil’s first home defeat in a World Cup qualifying match, a 1-0 loss to Argentina. North Carolina is working toward finalizing a deal with NBA championship-winning coach Michael Malone to lead the Tar Heels’ basketball program, a person with knowledge of the situation said Monday. ESPN was the first to report UNC moving toward hiring Malone. The 54-year-old Malone spent 12 seasons as a head coach in the NBA, including a 10-year run in Denver. He led the Nuggets to the 2023 championship behind three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets fired Malone last spring with less than a week left in that regular season. Almost a year to the day, in another surprise move, Malone is on the verge of taking over a blue-blood program with six national titles, a record 21 appearances in the Final Four and alums including Michael Jordan, James Worthy Vince Carter and Atlantic Coast Conference career scoring leader Tyler Hansbrough. A year after Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) effectively fired thousands of government employees, one federal agency that was affected by those cuts is now preparing to hire hundreds of people. The General Services Administration (GSA), an agency that oversees the government’s IT department and real estate holdings, is hiring “approximately 400 positions” across its Public Building Service (PBS) division, according to an email obtained by WIRED. “We’re thrilled to announce that the GSA Strategic Hiring Committee has approved the PBS staffing plan designed to address our workforce needs and strengthen our teams,” states an email sent by PBS chief of staff Donna Dix to employees on Monday. The email goes on to say that the hiring effort will focus on “the most significant areas of need: facilities management, acquisition, and project management.” GSA did not respond to a request for comment. SINGAPORE: A 47-year-old Singaporean man went on trial on Tuesday (Mar 24) for more than 30 charges linked to the sex work of at least 10 women in Singapore. Weiss Tan Yi Xun is accused of offences including living in part on the earnings of a woman’s sex work. This relates to a period of around end-2020 and mid-2021, with charge sheets listing at least 10 women aged between 23 and 56. He is also accused of abetting by engaging in a conspiracy with another person to get women to be sex workers for the “prostitution syndicate” known as “SgSocialites”. These charges allege that, on dates which include 2020 to 2021, Tan worked with women including a Mavis Toh En Xuan and Yap Yuxin to get the agreement of women to work in Singapore for SgSocialites.
