Harrow has alternative revenue streams—summer school programs, renting out buildings for weddings and private events—and this month, kicked off a strategic partnership with Downe House, a girls’ boarding school in Berkshire, that will share resources and governance. But the licensing of the Harrow name, done through Harrow International Schools Limited, a subsidiary of the charitable corporation that owns Harrow School, is integral to its future success. The Harrow brand is particularly strong in Asia, where the operator AISL oversees 12 Harrow-branded schools—10 in China, one in Appi, Japan, and another in Bangkok, which was the first to open, in 1998. In 2024, Harrow announced an agreement with Taaleem, an educational enterprise in the United Arab Emirates, to open six Harrow schools in the Gulf region, in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait. Amity Education Group, which operates 11 universities and 25 schools in India, opened Harrow Bengaluru in 2023 followed by Harrow New York, on Long Island, in September 2025. These international enterprises generated 5.9 British pounds (about $8 million) in net income for Harrow in the 2024-2025 school year, according to Harrow’s annual report.

Like many of the Harrow schools, the New York location is a thing of beauty, situated on a 170-acre oceanfront property in Oakdale, Long Island, equidistant from New York City and the Hamptons. Its signature building was constructed between 1897 and 1900 as the sprawling country residence of Frederick Gilbert Bourne, president of the Singer sewing machine corporation. “The state parks, the beaches, the forests, and the museums that are available to our students at a stone’s throw is just really unique,” says Matthew Sipple, the principal of Harrow New York.

During the 2025-2026 school year, its first in operation, Harrow New York taught sixth through ninth grades. According to Sipple, there were between five and eight children per grade level, divided between boarders and day students. Effective this month, Harrow New York offers 10th grade as well, and class sizes are expected to be closer to 10 students—which still suggests a striking, and concerning, lack of demand.
