Trump Ready To Raise “Core Of China’s Core Interests” In Xi Summit: Daily Schedule & What To Expect

Trump Ready To Raise “Core Of China’s Core Interests” In Xi Summit: Daily Schedule & What To Expect

Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to raise the issue of increasingly costly US arms transfers to Taiwan during their bilateral summit at the end of this week, spanning Thursday through Friday. Taiwan of course remains the “core of China’s core interests” – as Beijing has in the recent past characterized the issue. While Trump officials have previewed that it will be focused on trade and investment, the White House too is reportedly placing Taiwan and regional geopolitical hot button issues on the agenda. “I’m going to have that discussion with President Xi,” Trump told reporters at the White House, specifically on the question of weapons sales. “President Xi would like us not to, and I’ll have that discussion. That’s one of the many things I’ll be talking about.” via Reuters Also there’s the looming question of the future of the Iran war and blockaded Strait of Hormuz. Currently there’s a stalemated situation and supposed ceasefire which is barely holding. By many accounts, Trump was hopeful that the Iran ‘excursion’ would be wrapped up by …

‘The Bear’s one-dimensional love interests have got to go

‘The Bear’s one-dimensional love interests have got to go

Whenever The Bear introduces a new female character, I pray she doesn’t become a love interest for one of the male leads. Not because I hate romance, but because I specifically hate the way The Bear does romance. SEE ALSO: ‘The Bear’ just dropped a surprise episode. Here’s how to watch it now. The clearest offender is Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) relationship with Claire (Molly Gordon). A childhood friend who re-enters Carmy’s life, Claire is less a real human character than she is a walking self-help book for Carmy. She spends almost every moment she’s on screen talking about him: her memories of him, his mental health struggles, his relationship with his family. In theory, she has a life apart from Carmy — her defining character trait outside of being his girlfriend is vaguely “nurse” — but in watching The Bear, you wouldn’t know it. Usually a great performer (see: Shiva Baby, Oh, Hi!, and more), Gordon is reduced to two modes here: luminous love interest hanging onto Carmy’s every word, or calming therapist. She’s …

A Dirty Word No More: Why Celebrities Are Finally Openly Talking About Their AI Interests

A Dirty Word No More: Why Celebrities Are Finally Openly Talking About Their AI Interests

Tye Sheridan hasn’t kept his interest in AI under wraps at all. He was one of the first in Hollywood to explore the possibilities when he and Nikola Todorovic cofounded AI tech company Wonder Dynamics way back in 2016. At the time, Sheridan, known for his work in sci-fi films like Ready Player One and the X-Men franchise, was telling agents, managers, and anyone else in Hollywood who’d listen that they should educate themselves about AI. “It’s coming. It’s going to be a big part of our industry,” he remembers saying. “And some people would kind of laugh because they thought it sounded so science fiction.” It was after ChatGPT launched in 2022 that Hollywood (and the rest of society) realized the possibilities. By 2023, Sheridan and Todorovic launched Wonder Studio, an AI tool for animating, lighting, and composing CG characters in a live-action scene. They’ve been intentional about using AI in an additive way, not to replace creative talent like actors. “We spend a lot of time working on staying on the good side …

Billionaire candidate for California governor catching heat for past business interests, wealth

Billionaire candidate for California governor catching heat for past business interests, wealth

Billionaire hedge fund founder turned environmental warrior Tom Steyer, a leading Democratic candidate for California governor, is facing mounting questions about how he earned his wealth — notably investments in private prisons that are now being used to house undocumented immigrants facing deportation. Some of the most vicious political attacks come from his Democratic rivals and Sacramento special interest groups as the June 2 primary election fast approaches, but Steyer has been dogged for years about his past, controversial business ventures and how they help fund his unbridled campaign spending. Steyer, 68, faced that ire during a town hall event in San Diego last week. “Tom, you’re not going to come to San Diego and ignore this detention center,” Holly Taylor, a 37-year-old Democrat screamed at Steyer, holding signs with QR codes to help detainees at an Otay Mesa private prison that Steyer’s hedge fund backed. “It’s a concentration camp. They’re drinking water out of a toilet.” Taylor, a crime scene cleaner from Pacific Beach, is among scores of people who gather weekly at the …

“Damning evidence”: Trump’s DOJ shares memo alleging Trump took docs related to business interests

“Damning evidence”: Trump’s DOJ shares memo alleging Trump took docs related to business interests

President Donald Trump allegedly took classified documents relating to his private business interests in 2021, according to a memo provided to the House Judiciary Committee by the Department of Justice. The documents show evidence gathered by special counsel Jack Smith, who led multiple investigations into Trump’s handling of classified documents. An FBI raid later on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence  found a trove of classified materials, including a large collection in a bathroom. “Trump possessed classified documents pertinent to his business interests — establishing a motive for retaining them,” according to a 2023 “progress memo” from Smith’s team, reviewed by MS NOW. “We must have those documents.” Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the House Judiciary Committee’s ranking member, said the mistaken release of files was the result of a “frenzied search” by the DOJ to come up with evidence against Smith prior to him testifying before Congress in January regarding his 2023 indictment of Trump. “You have, quite amazingly, missed the fact that some of the documents you provided include damning evidence about your boss’s conduct,” Raskin wrote in …

There are many markers for a highly intelligent person. More than just how they would do on an exam that tests their intelligence. Bertrand Russell’s Advice For How (Not) to Grow Old: “Make Your Interests Gradually Wider and More Impersonal”

Image by National Portrait Gallery, via Wikimedia Commons Advice on how to grow old frequently comes from such banal or bloodless sources that we can be forgiven for ignoring it. Public health officials who dispense wisdom may have good intentions; pharmaceutical companies who do the same may not. In either case, the messages arrive in a form that can bring on the despair they seek to avert. Elderly people in well-lit photographs stroll down garden paths, ballroom dance, do yoga. At the other extreme are profiles of exceptional cases—relatively spry individuals who have passed the century mark. Rarely do their stories conform to the model of abstemiousness enjoined upon us by professionals. But we know that growing old with dignity entails so much more than diet and exercise or making it to a hundred-and-two. It entails facing death as squarely as we face life. Zambia Pushed Back on U.S. Health Funding Deal to Protect Interests, Government Says

Zambia Pushed Back on U.S. Health Funding Deal to Protect Interests, Government Says

By Jennifer Rigby, Chris Mfula and Olivia Kumwenda-Mtambo LONDON, Feb 25 (Reuters) – Zambia has pushed back on part of a deal worth more than $1 billion in global health aid from the United States because it does not align with the country’s interests, the government said on Wednesday, as health advocates warned the deal links the money to mining access and has data-sharing risks.  The deal governs more than $1 billion of U.S. funding to tackle conditions like HIV and malaria, as well as improve ‌disease outbreak preparedness and maternal and child health, ‌over the next five years. It also requires around $340 million in co-financing from the Zambian government over the same period, according to a draft of the agreement reviewed by Reuters. The deal was due to be signed in November, but had been delayed after revised drafts included a problematic section, a Zambian Ministry of Health spokesperson told Reuters on Wednesday. That section “did not align with the position and interests of the government of Zambia… We have therefore requested further …

U.S. and European interests are ‘intertwined,’ Secretary of State Rubio says

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio speaks during the Munich Security Conference (MSC) in Munich, Germany, on Feb. 14, 2026. Thilo Schmuelgen | Reuters The U.S. has no intention of abandoning its deep alliance with Europe and wants the region to succeed, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday. “We care deeply about your future and ours,” Rubio told the Munich Security Conference (MSC). “We want Europe to be strong,” he said. “We believe that Europe must survive, because the two great wars of the last century serve, for us, as history’s great reminder, that ultimately, our destiny is, and will always be, intertwined with yours.” U.S. President Donald Trump has frequently criticized Europe for being too reliant on the U.S. for its security and has pushed NATO allies to boost defense spending. His pursuit of ownership of Greenland, a Danish territory, has also rattled European leaders in recent months. “We do not need to abandon the system of international cooperation we authored, and we don’t need to dismantle the global institutions of …

5 Subtle Ways Your Interests Buffer Work Stress

5 Subtle Ways Your Interests Buffer Work Stress

Hobbies and interests do more than give you a break from work. They give you exposure to different ways people measure success, solve problems, think creatively, and structure their efforts. Here are five under-the-radar ways hobbies build your skills for handling stress. 1. They Put Your Work Pressures in Perspective I occasionally watch professional running races, and it always strikes me how intense it must be to train for decades for races that last seconds or minutes. That pressure is such a contrast to when I shuffle-jog for health, when it doesn’t matter how fast I am or how one day’s performance differs from the next. In any professional sphere, what people value and are judged on is often irrelevant to people outside that world. Your field might care about sales numbers, thinly-sliced career levels, followers, how your company is ranking next to a competitor, or whatever. Outside your field, those concerns often don’t register. When we engage with one of our interests, it exposes us to a world in which what matters in our …
