The BBC has finally confirmed when fans can expect the new season of Interior Design Masters with Alan Carr. The popular competition series is set to return for its seventh run, which will once again see head judge Michelle Ogundehin and a rotating roster of guests judge the work of 10 amateur interior designers, on Tuesday 21 April at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer. While the line-up for the new season is yet to be revealed, an official synopsis for episode 1 reveals: “Alan Carr tasks 10 designers to transform Dorset beach huts in their signature styles. Michelle Ogundehin and Jonathan Adler judge Stand Out Space and decide who goes home first.” The show first launched in 2019, with Fearne Cotton serving as host. Carr joined the series from season 2, taking over presenting duties. If I had a nickel for every time an editor has sent me an SFGate story and asked me to match it, I’d be at least a couple dollars richer. The San Francisco-based news website provides solid coverage of California public lands, especially our national parks. So when my colleague Jaclyn Cosgrove told me the National Park Service had reportedly blacklisted SFGate, I wasn’t exactly shocked. Recent SFGate stories have revealed efforts to limit which public lands employees can share information with the public, quoted critics of the Department of the Interior’s decision to end reservation systems at popular parks and detailed a litany of items that were previously offered at the parks but are now being reviewed for possible removal, thanks to an executive order to “restore truth and sanity” to American history, including books about Indigenous culture and educational materials for children. But over the past month, the National Park Service essentially stopped responding to inquiries sent by SFGate reporters on dozens of subjects, national parks bureau chief Ashley Harrell wrote last week. …

The Department of the Interior, headed by a man who has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from oil companies, just declared it will spend $1 billion of your dollars to convince a French oil company, TotalEnergies, to stop development of affordable, reliable offshore wind and instead shift to expensive, unreliable liquified methane gas. TotalEnergies is the third-largest oil company in the world, but it also operates some solar and wind projects in various parts of the world (including solar in Texas, and a wind farm in the North Sea, pictured above). It had owned two offshore wind leases in Carolina Long Bay and New York Bight, both awarded in 2022. It was going to develop these sites into offshore wind locations to help develop reliable, cheap power for the US. Offshore wind is one of the cheapest forms of electricity, and also one of the lowest-impact environmentally. It doesn’t use up any land space, and doesn’t create any pollution.
