Firefly Holidays, based in Abingdon, entered voluntary liquidation and was appointed liquidators on August 4.

The company was incorporated in 2015 according to Companies House and organised holidays across Europe including to France, Spain and Italy.

The firm was named the Sunday Times Best 100 Holidays in its first full season and also received two British Travel Award nominations following this.

Now, due to reported financial issues the company is no longer arranging trips.

A statement on the company’s website reads: “It’s been our absolute honour to help our customers experience amazing holidays and award-winning adventures. Now the Firefly team are taking our own road-trip towards new destinations.”

The statement adds: “Although Firefly Holidays is no longer taking bookings, we’re happy to help valued customers and new contacts with any travel questions and advice.”

Stephen Mark Powell of BTG Begbies Traynor was appointed liquidator.

The business is not the only travel company to suffer in the current climate, as 11 others have also entered liquidation this year.

Most recently, Ski Yodl Ltd, founded in March 2018, entered liquidation on July 22.

The firm offered ski holiday packages to destinations including the French Alps for over 8 years before its collapse.
