Why Tip Toe feels like the LGBTQ+ drama I’ve been waiting for

Coming of age in the 2010s felt like a time when optimism and unapologetic self-expression were at the forefront of every new glitzy TV series that came our way. From the infectious and explosive energy of Glee to the charming and raw depictions of womanhood in Girls and Fleabag – I came to understand myself and my own identity in a world surrounded by TV that told me it was okay to be different. Fast forward a decade and those bright-eyed dreams of living out and proud as an LGBTQ+ person can still feel like an aspiration or a dream that only truly exists in the world of fiction. But Channel 4s new hard-hitting drama Tip Toe has managed to find a slither of optimism in our continually fractious society – and not by showcasing our daily life choreographed to elaborate musical numbers or telling me that I need to ‘just be myself’ and that everything will be okay, but by directly tackling the issue of what it really means to be part of the …

The House | Stephanie Peacock: “I’ve Got No Time For Conversations About Rejoining The EU”

Stephanie Peacock (Photography by Louise Haywood-Schiefer) 11 min read5 hr Tourism minister Stephanie Peacock talks to Sienna Rodgers about introducing a controversial tourist tax and tackling short-term holiday lets – plus why Labour finds itself in a mess, but relitigating Brexit would be wrong Tourism, sport and civil society minister Stephanie Peacock has purposefully chosen pieces from the government art collection that reflect both her brief and her constituency’s roots. Football and rugby references are scattered across her generous departmental office, but perhaps most striking is a black-and-white painting of men digging grimly. At The Coal Face by Nicholas Evans, Peacock reveals, became the subject of a conservation visit after the glass fogged up. It turned out the oil painting was ‘off-gassing’ – releasing chemical vapours, which is not uncommon for 1970s artworks. The special treatment it received is a clear example, she jokes, of Labour delivering for miners. As MP for Barnsley South, Peacock represents a classic red wall seat with a deep mining heritage. Labour’s challenge in these areas …

I’ve dedicated my career to soccer. I’m boycotting this World Cup.

(RNS) — I have devoted my career to soccer. I teach a college course on Soccer & Global Politics. I’ve conducted research in 35 countries on the social dimensions of the people’s game.  I truly believe soccer is the closest thing that the secular world has to a universal religion.  This summer, eight World Cup matches will be held in Atlanta, where I live, yet I am not going to any of the games. As much as it pains me, I’ve decided to boycott the 2026 Men’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.  I am not a fervent FIFA critic, and I am looking forward to going to Brazil for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. But I cannot in good conscience attend matches, watch matches on television or collect Panini stickers of the players this summer.   Here is why.  First, the world was promised it could come to these games — that is false.   On May 2, 2018, President Donald Trump wrote a letter to FIFA proclaiming that “all eligible athletes, officials and fans …

I’ve been using NotebookLM’s Audio Overview wrong — this is what it’s actually good for

I’ve been using NotebookLM’s Audio Overview wrong — this is what it’s actually good for

If you haven’t used NotebookLM much yourself but have heard of it in passing, chances are the feature you heard about was Audio Overviews. The two-AI-hosts-turn-your-PDF-into-a-podcast thing. Depending on if you’ve always been a podcast person, it likely went one of two ways: you got obsessed and began turning everything into an Audio Overview, or tried it once, thought “that’s cool I guess,” and never really opened it again. Well, chances are you were simply not using it to its full potential. Or at the very least, not for what it’s genuinely good at. You have a lot more control over Audio Overviews than you think Audio Overviews are only as good as you make them By now, I’m sure you’ve had enough people lecture you on how the quality of the prompt you send a LLM determines the quality of the output you get. The same thing applies here, and a lot of people don’t really realize it! Given how much I use and write about NotebookLM, I’ve seen how a lot of people …

Asus vs. Acer: I’ve reviewed laptops from both brands for years, and here’s my pick

Asus vs. Acer: I’ve reviewed laptops from both brands for years, and here’s my pick

Cesar Cadenas/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. Acer and Asus are two of the top consumer laptop brands, but they couldn’t be more different in their offerings. Acer tends to focus more on practicality and value, with sensible machines and decent hardware at affordable prices. Asus, on the other hand, leans into the premium experience with vibrant OLED screens, powerful hardware, and ambitious — even experimental — designs.  For example, some models, like the Asus ZenBook Duo’s dual screens, offer unconventional form factors you don’t see anywhere else. The company is not afraid to push the boundaries of design and interaction.  Also: Dell vs. Lenovo: I’ve tested dozens of laptops from both brands, and here’s my pick So, which laptop brand should you buy? Acer is generally a better choice for people who want a more practical computer, while Asus makes more sense for users who want a more high-end machine with better hardware. Here’s a breakdown of where Acer and Asus each shine. You should buy an Acer laptop if… Cesar …

I’ve used Gemini in Android Auto for 2 months now, and it’s transformed my daily drive in 4 ways

Artie Beaty/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Gemini in Android Auto is changing my daily drive. It’s making me safer, providing entertainment, and more. I actually look forward to car time now.  At the beginning of April, I tried the then brand-new Gemini in my car for a weekend. I was mostly using Gemini to find information — things like the hours of a local business, the address of a theater, or random questions that popped into my head. It was so useful that I finally embraced Google’s AI assistant. Also: I tried different Android Auto weather apps – these 3 are best for storm nerds like me Two months in, I continue using Gemini for all those purposes, but I’m still finding more. Gemini isn’t doing anything that it couldn’t before Android Auto integration, but it’s so convenient that I’m using it more, and it’s changing how my drives feel. My daily drive is becoming safer, less boring, and more connected. 4 ways Gemini has improved my …

Get summer-ready with the best walking sandal I’ve ever tested, now under on Amazon

Get summer-ready with the best walking sandal I’ve ever tested, now under $50 on Amazon

If you associate sandals with something flimsy and unsupportive, I have something that will change your preconceptions. I’ve been testing the Columbia Konos 2-Strap for the past few weeks and it’s blown all other sandals out of the water. Columbia has begun to dominate my guide to walking shoes and for good reason. All the Columbia shoes I’ve tested are high-quality, comfortable and surprisingly affordable. Latest Videos From These sandals are no exception, with great support, cushioning and velcro straps. What’s more, you can now get them for under $50 on Amazon. It can be difficult to find sandals that are suitable for both the beach and the trail. The current listing in my walking shoe guide—the Keen Hyperport 2—will soon be replaced by the Konos 2 Strap. The Konos is far more comfortable underfoot and more akin to a trainer than the Hyperport, which is closer to a trail shoe (rigid and protective). You can also wear the Konos comfortably without socks (the Hyperport quickly becomes slick with foot sweat), making it a more …

This is the most underrated free streaming service I’ve ever used

This is the most underrated free streaming service I’ve ever used

Free streaming usually comes with a catch. Sometimes it is a sign-up wall. Sometimes it is a barrage of ads. Sometimes a chaotic interface makes you wonder whether the stream is worth the trouble. However, this isn’t what you’d experience with famelack. Previously known as TV Garden (which I think was a catchier name), the platform rebranded at the start of 2026 with a note from its team that what they are building has grown beyond TV. Same core idea but bigger ambitions. It is a free, browser-based platform for streaming live TV channels from around the world. If that sentence alone does not make you open a new tab, keep reading. Related I use this website to stream live channels from around the world for free One website, endless news channels, zero subscription fees. Spin the globe, pick a country, and watch anything Geography class, but actually fun When you land on famelack, what you see is a colorful 3D globe floating against a dark, starry background. It is a web-based service that provides …

I’ve never seen a 5-year-old who looks like a statistic

I’ve never seen a 5-year-old who looks like a statistic

I’m always sceptical about statistics. Seventy-five per cent of them are wrong. With two kids in primary school and another starting this September, I’m no stranger to dad jokes. So I thought it pertinent to open with my current favourite. In all seriousness though, like most school leaders, I do prefer to balance the numbers with the evidence of my eyes and ears. Source link
