Top Gun actor James Handy stabbed to death as girlfriend’s son arrested | US | News

Top Gun actor James Handy has been stabbed to death outside his home in Los Angeles. His girlfriend’s son, Michael Gledhill, 44, later allegedly told officers he was the one they were looking for the California Post reports. Los Angeles Police said they received a disturbing call at around 9.30am on Wednesday from a man who said: “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.” Officers then raced to Handy’s address in the 19200 block of Erwin Street in Tarzana, where the 81-year-old was found unconscious on his front yard with a stab wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. Later the suspect flagged down the police and told them he was who they were looking for. Gledhill lived at home with his mother, and investigators are yet to discover a motive. Gledhill is now being held with a $2 million bail. The police statement said: “On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, around 9:30 a.m., West Valley area patrol officers responded to a radio …

James Bond’s forgotten first screen outing – and why it’s essential

James Bond’s forgotten first screen outing – and why it’s essential

Before Sean Connery ordered his first vodka martini, before Ursula Andress emerged from the sea, before Monty Norman’s theme became shorthand for cinematic cool, James Bond had already made it to screen. Not the James Bond most viewers would recognise, admittedly. Not quite. In 1954, eight years before Dr. No launched the 007 film franchise as we know it, Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale was adapted for US television as part of the anthology drama series Climax! – it was broadcast live, ran for around 50 minutes, and starred Barry Nelson as Bond opposite Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre. Except this Bond was not the suave British secret agent of legend. He was “Jimmy” Bond, an American operative working for “Combined Intelligence”, assisted by a British contact named “Clarence” Leiter. For anyone raised on the familiar rhythms of the film series – the gun barrel, the theme tune, the pre-title stunt, the briefing with M, the banter with Q, the elaborate villain’s lair – the 1954 Casino Royale is initially a jolt. It is Bond before …

Texas Democrat James Talarico May Be on Track to Turn the Lone Star State Blue

Texas Democrat James Talarico May Be on Track to Turn the Lone Star State Blue

Yes, Virginia, there may in fact be a blue wave in Texas this year. I’ve been in Texas politics for most of my adult life. I worked for Governor Ann Richards, a Democrat. And I worked for Republican George W. Bush when he ran for the governor’s mansion—and the White House. I’ve witnessed the best of times and the worst of times for both parties. Which is to say: I’ve seen a lot of changes. From Blue Dog Democrats to the Tea Party to MAGA. From LBJ to Dubya to Greg Abbott. For years now, with every political cycle, members of the media, as well as interested parties of every stripe, have asked me the same question: “Is this the year a blue wave hits Texas?” And I’ve always been the guy tapping the brakes. Because even when Texas was a Democratic state, most of the elected officials were very conservative. Senator Lloyd Bentsen almost certainly would have run as a Republican today. And even though Richards was progressive in many ways, she got elected …

The New James Bond? In ‘007 First Light,’ It’s You

The New James Bond? In ‘007 First Light,’ It’s You

“Earn the number,” says the promotional tagline for 007 First Light, the first major James Bond video game released in well over a decade. 007 Legends—the last major release to feature everyone’s favorite martini-swilling superspy—came out in 2012. It featured the likeness of Daniel Craig, whose five-film tenure as James Bond would hit its apex later that year with Skyfall—then and now, the only 007 film to hit the fabled $1 billion threshold at the box office (though Amazon, the franchise’s newest steward, surely has its sights set on eclipsing that number). Here’s another way to think about it: When 007 Legends was published, Barack Obama had just been reelected president of the United States, and Donald Trump was still incoherently ranting about his birth certificate. Neither Theresa May, nor Boris Johnson, nor Liz Truss, nor Rishi Sunak, nor Keir Starmer had ever been prime minister. The “Brexit” referendum—which led to the United Kingdom isolating itself from the rest of Europe, no Bond villain required—was nearly four years away. The Covid-19 pandemic, which rattled the …

the scandals of Georgian politician Charles James Fox

the scandals of Georgian politician Charles James Fox

Political satire has mocked the powerful for centuries. But in an age of endless headlines, rolling news and social media outrage, satire can often feel strangely powerless. In Georgian Britain, satire had the power not just to entertain the public, but to shape reputations and destroy careers. Satire meant a scandal could define a politician for decades. Few figures embodied this more completely than Charles James Fox, as my research explores. Fox was one of the most famous politicians of his age. He was a brilliant parliamentary speaker, early supporter of the French revolution, notorious gambler and political celebrity long before the term even existed. Though technically a Whig (a former political party), Fox transcended party labels. Admirers celebrated him as a champion of liberty and the “man of the people”. Critics saw him as reckless, corrupt and morally unfit for office. He fascinated the public because politics itself was changing. The late 18th century was an age of expanding print culture, coffeehouse debate and increasingly personality-driven politics. The boundary between the public and private …

Want to Watch a James Bond Movie? These Are My Top Picks

So you’re new to this whole James Bond thing. You’re wondering: Where do I start? It’s a good question. You’ve got more than two dozen movies to choose from, with six different actors portraying 007 in the official franchise across distinctly different eras and approaches. I’m here to help you with that. I grew up watching Bond movies and reading the Ian Fleming books that first brought the MI6 superspy to life, a formative experience that had a knock-on effect on my first big career choice. We’re at an inflection point for Mr. Bond (or Commander Bond, if you prefer), coming up on five years since the most recent 007 movie arrived in theaters. That was No Time to Die, which rather definitively put an end to Daniel Craig’s tenure. And after decades of ironclad creative control by members of the Broccoli family, Bond’s fate has been placed in the hands of Amazon MGM Studios. The studio said in May that the search is underway for Craig’s successor as the next James Bond, a plum …
