Traffic jams, rail disruption and busy ports expected as bank holiday getaway begins | UK News

Drivers hoping to get to the continent via the port of Dover in Kent are facing delays of up to three hours as the bank holiday getaway begins. In an early afternoon post on X, port officials, which have warned of delays with 18,000 travellers expected between Friday and Sunday, said there was “a 150-180 minute processing time for tourist traffic in the Buffer Zone” [French border and security checks]. While check-in was described as “free-flowing”, it warned of “significant congestion” on approach roads. ‘A classic citric-forward twang and complex flavour’: the best UK supermarket marmalade, tasted and rated | Jams, preserves and spreads

For this week’s taste test, I asked my old River Cottage colleague, friend and author Pam “the Jam” Corbin for advice. “A truly brilliant marmalade,” she says, “is simply one where the peel, the gel, the texture and indeed the flavour are in harmony. Waymos Cause Traffic Jams Across City During Power Outage

Source: Smith Collection / Gado / Getty Images Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will stay these robotaxis of their appointed trips — but a power outage apparently will. On Saturday evening, a blackout left nearly a third of San Francisco in the dark. But its most visible casualties were Waymo robocabs, which were left stranded on the city streets like large toys inconveniently discarded by a child. Footage shared online shows numerous Waymos stalled in the middle of busy roads, blocking human motorists. Often, the self-driving cabs were gaggled together, serving to unintentionally cordon off city blocks, their emergency lights blinking in unison. In one video, at least five Waymo robotaxis can be seen piled up in the same intersection. It appeared that without traffic lights to guide them, the highly advanced cars were utterly rudderless. “Somebody’s gonna set this thing on fire if it doesn’t move soon,” a pedestrian observed, as motorists honked their horns in vain at a frozen Waymo. In short, …
