How Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro Built the Tribeca Festival

How Jane Rosenthal and Robert De Niro Built the Tribeca Festival

The Tribeca Festival was born out of a need to revitalize downtown New York City following the September 11 attacks. Spearheaded by Robert De Niro, producer Jane Rosenthal, and investor Craig Hatkoff, the festival pulled New York’s creative community together, drawing big names like Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, and Whoopi Goldberg. Twenty-five years later, the festival has expanded its scope to include talks, a podcasting track, a gaming section, and television premieres. At this year’s Tribeca, you can attend talks between Madonna and Jimmy Fallon, Sean Penn and CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, and Teyana Taylor and filmmaker Janicza Bravo. You can visit New York’s Pier 57 to play demos of exclusive upcoming games or attend a live podcast taping with The New Yorker’s David Remnick with Jon Lovett. Or you can watch the premiere of a fully AI-generated docudrama called Dreams of Violet, about the Iranian civilian resistance to the authoritarian regime. Rosenthal has been at the center of these changes, from launching the festival to adapting itputting on the festival during COVID-19. Below, she talks …

Robert De Niro on Building the Tribeca Festival With Jane Rosenthal, Wrangling a Cut of ‘Gangs of New York’ From Harvey Weinstein, and Making ‘at Least Another One’ With Martin Scorsese

Robert De Niro on Building the Tribeca Festival With Jane Rosenthal, Wrangling a Cut of ‘Gangs of New York’ From Harvey Weinstein, and Making ‘at Least Another One’ With Martin Scorsese

As partnerships go, Robert De Niro has been pretty lucky. For starters, there’s his legendary 50-year run with Martin Scorsese, a collaboration that began in the ‘70s with classics like Mean Streets and Taxi Driver and has continued on all the way to 2023’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Then there are co-stars like Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel—both Scorsese company men who’ve shared the screen with him several times—and of course, Al Pacino, arguably De Niro’s only true peer, who burned through the screen with De Niro in Michael Mann’s Heat and Scorsese’s The Irishman. But sometimes lost in all that testosterone is one of De Niro’s longest-running collaborations—his 37-year partnership with the powerhouse producer Jane Rosenthal, who he founded Tribeca Productions with in 1989. With Rosenthal, De Niro entered a fruitful, often financially lucrative next chapter in his career in the ‘90s, starring in films like Wag the Dog, Analyze This, and the Meet the Parents movies. (Focker-in-Law, the hotly-anticipated fourth installment of the Meet the Parents franchise, co-starring Ben Stiller and Ariana …

Like Jane Fallon, I’m childfree by choice – but being an aunt is one of the great joys of my life

Like Jane Fallon, I’m childfree by choice – but being an aunt is one of the great joys of my life

At 48, I am childfree by choice – I’ll never be able to say I’m a mum or relate to the discussions all my mum friends or colleagues have about ‘the juggle’ or stresses of raising kids. And that’s a choice I’ve actively made – just like Jane Fallon, who spoke about her experience on the Second Act podcast. But I do have a title I am fiercely proud of, a parenting duty of sorts that I take very seriously, too. I’m a PANK – a ‘Professional Aunt, No Kids’. Just like Fallon, I am that adult in the lives of my nephews and nieces (both on my side of the family and my husband’s) who plays the role of ‘not parent’ but still someone to guide and influence the young people around her. Jenny loves spending time with her “niblings” I am Aunty to Nancy, 13, and Cole, 10, through my brother and sister. Then, when I met my husband in 2016, I ‘inherited’ two more nieces and a nephew. At the time they …

Bella Hadid Pays Homage to Jane Birkin on Cannes Film Festival Red Carpet

Jane Birkin. Keystone-France/Getty Images Also unmissable is the black detail at the waist, although in Jane Birkin ‘s case it was a DIY addition to attend the Union des Artistes Gala in Paris in 1969. A trick the actress added to wear the dress backwards, turning it into a daring low-cut gown and completing the look with a black floral brooch at the waist. Jane Birkin. Gilbert TOURTE/Getty Images A spectacular tribute that, as revealed on Instagram by the fashion house needed more than 22,160 hours of embroidery and the work of 130 artisans. But, curiosity has it that this is not the only tribute to the past during the film premiere. In fact, even Elodie sported a column dress from Prada made with the original archival botanical pattern from the Spring – Summer 1997 fashion show. A look that can’t help but be reminiscent of the one worn on the catwalk by Kate Moss on the brand’s runway. Source link

The perks of being Jane Austen’s wallflower

The perks of being Jane Austen’s wallflower

Take it from someone who knows — it’s the odd ones out in the family who have the best chance of winning at life. Unburdened by the gravitational pull of parental expectations or affection, the alleged weirdo is free to find her way to happiness by whatever means she sees fit. There’s an entire wing of fiction built around such iconoclasts, but “The Other Bennet Sister” and its reimagining of Mary Bennet (Ella Bruccoleri, “Call the Midwife”) may be the most attuned to our times. Mary is a bookworm who draws her apt conclusions about human behavior from written wisdom. All she needs is a cat, and she would be the scourge of conservatives everywhere. But it is because of this that so many close readers of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” have found a role model in Mary, a girl who in modern times would skip school dances for the more reliable company of a book or a movie. As for taking up any tradwife aspirations, forget it. Mary Bennet cares very little about …

Connor Storrie, Gorillaz, Kit Harington, Jane Fonda Films at Raindance

Connor Storrie, Gorillaz, Kit Harington, Jane Fonda Films at Raindance

Connor Storrie, Kit Harington, Jane Fonda, Robert Englund, music icon Eddie Cochran and other big names will feature in the lineup of the 34th edition of the Raindance Film Festival in London – whether as stars, behind-the-scenes talent or subjects of movies. But organizers unveiled the 2026 program on Monday with commentary on the state of the world. “In an increasingly divisive and polarized world, the power of storytelling has never been more crucial,” they said. “Raindance is privileged to be a platform for sharing stories from emerging filmmakers: the new voices in cinema who won’t wait for big-time producers or major studios to greenlight their projects, because some films can’t wait.” And they added: “That urgency might be to share important truths about headline-making topics ranging from Ukraine to AI, fracking to deforestation, refugees to bride slavery.” Of course, the lineup will also put a spotlight on celebrities past and present and escapist fare, whether of the sci-fi, horror or other varieties. Running June 17-26, Rainance is overall screening 85 narrative and documentary features, including …

Jane Street Slashes Bitcoin ETF Holdings, Adds Ether Funds In Q1 2026

Authored by Helen Partz via CoinTelegraph.com, Wall Street market maker Jane Street reduced its exposure to Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the first quarter of 2026 while increasing positions in Ether funds. Jane Street cut major Bitcoin ETF holdings in Q1 2026, including BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) and Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), according to a 13F filing published Tuesday. IBIT holdings fell about 71% from Q4 2025 to roughly 5.9 million shares valued at about $225 million, while FBTC dropped about 60% to around 2 million shares worth roughly $115 million. At the same time, Jane Street increased its exposure to Ether (ETH) ETFs, nearly doubling its position in BlackRock’s iShares Ethereum Trust (ETHA) and sharply raising its stake in Fidelity Ethereum Fund (FETH), adding about $82 million combined across the two products over the quarter. The move comes amid early signs of institutional Ether ETF buying in early 2026, including increased exposure reported at Wells Fargo. The filing points to a reshuffling of Jane Street’s reportable crypto-linked holdings at quarter-end, though 13F disclosures do not show …

Exclusive: Jane Fonda Enlists Bette Midler, Patti Smith, and More Stars to Fight Authoritarianism at June Concert

On June 14, a group of legendary performers will take the stage in New York to celebrate art and music—and fight “an authoritarian regime that is rapidly taking over our democracy,” says organizer Jane Fonda. “Rise Up, Sing Out: A Concert for the First Amendment” will feature performances and appearances by Fonda, Bette Midler, Joy Reid, Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright, Sasha Allen, and Broadway Inspirational Voices. Fonda’s Committee for the First Amendment, a free speech advocacy group, is organizing the star-studded fundraising event to bring attendees—and viewers at home—together in celebration of “the freedoms guaranteed by our First Amendment, of speech, religion, press, assembly, and protest. In a moment when authoritarians are increasing their attacks on our freedoms and communities, this is an opportunity for people across the country to rise up.” Proceeds from the event will go to the Committee for the First Amendment, which will put them toward training, hiring organizers, and future activations and shows. “We have to stand up now—this is the time,” Fonda tells Vanity Fair. “Do not do it …

Jane Fonda calls ex-husband Ted Turner ‘challenging and complicated’ in stunning tribute

Jane Fonda has paid a stunningly beautiful tribute to her late ex-husband, Ted Turner, the pioneering founder of CNN, who was also known for his philanthropy and activism, who has died at the age of 87. Ted and Jane, 88, were married for 10 years, between 1991 and 2001, and she helped to raise his five children. In a moving statement posted on social media, Jane shared that Ted “swept into my life, a gloriously handsome, deeply romantic, swashbuckling pirate and I’ve never been the same”. © Ron Galella Collection via GettyJane and Ted during Volunteers of America at Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California The actress went on to share that Ted, the creator of CNN, Turner Classic Movies, and the winner of the America’s Cup, “had a big life, a brilliant mind and a soaring sense of humor,” but that, most importantly, he “helped me believe in myself.” “He gave me confidence. I think I did the same for him, but that’s what women are raised to do. Men like Ted aren’t supposed to express need …
