Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker on Dear England accent and mannerisms

The cast of the BBC’s Dear England adaptation is a combination of actors who played their roles on stage and reprising them, as well as those coming to the material new. Of course, Joseph Fiennes is reprising his role as Gareth Southgate, while John Hodgkinson, Adam Hugill, Josh Barrow and Lewis Shepherd also appeared in the play, before now starring in the four-part BBC drama. One of the major figures who is played by a new actor is Pippa Grange. The role was originated by Gina McKee and has been played by Dervla Kirwan, Liz White and Samantha Womack in different runs, and now, the role is being played by Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker on screen. Whittaker plays Pippa Grange, the Head of People and Team Development at The Football Association from 2017 to 2019. When speaking with The Standard, it was noted that the series depicts media intrusion having a big impact on Grange’s life. Whittaker was then asked whether there have been moments in her career where she has felt similarly, to which she responded: “I’ve felt incredibly overwhelmed. I’d say the only thing is Doctor Who – the casting of Doctor Who. But has it ever felt too much? No. Because I’m still here, I’m still working.” Whittaker continued: “It’s an overnight change in your life that you think will permanently be at that high-octane level, and it isn’t. When you get cast, you think it’s gonna be like that scene in Notting Hill every day. Like, I’m gonna be Rhys Ifans …

Jodie Comer to Star in ‘The Chain’ from Damon Lindelof, HBO

HBO has found the first link in The Chain. Killing Eve star Jodie Comer will play a lead role in the thriller from showrunner Damon Lindelof. Her character, Rachel, is described as a surburban mother “who must consider the unthinkable when her daughter is kidnapped.” HBO ordered the series in January as the first project to result from a two-year overall deal Lindelof signed with the outlet last year. The Chain is based on a 2019 novel of the same name by Adrian McKinty, which details a kidnapping scheme where an abductee’s parents must kidnap another child to secure their own child’s release. Lindelof is said to be expanding on the mythology of the book. “From the moment I heard the wild and original premise of Adrian’s book, I was shocked, surprised and angry I hadn’t thought of it myself,” Lindelof said when the series order was announced. “I’ve always wanted to try to adapt a great thriller and this one has all the dark, weird, exhilarating touches that fire up my imagination.” Comer won …

Coronation Street airs odd encounter for Jodie Ramsey in ITVX release

Coronation Street airs odd encounter for Jodie Ramsey in ITVX release

Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) has been left spooked by an unusual encounter in Coronation Street. Let’s be real – we’re still not entirely sure what’s going on with the newcomer. We’ve seen her display somewhat kleptomaniac tendencies, taking a number of bizarre items – including a picture of Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove) and a book belonging to Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) – and also try to sink her claws into brother-in-law David Platt (Jack P Shepherd). He’s been blissfully unaware of her efforts to get closer to him, though did note to his brother Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) that there was something not quite right about her. We know that she’s wronged some sort of gang, with Emmerdale’s Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) employed to get rid of her, and has also stolen a hard drive that belongs to a former employer. Two of this employer’s henchmen charged down to No. 8 in today’s episode, seeking to get the device back. Protective sister Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) stepped in and assured the men that she’d …

Ask someone what comes to mind when they think of Jodie Foster, and they might mention her role as a prickly rape survivor in The Accused, for which she won her first Oscar, or as FBI trainee Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, for which she won her second. Maybe they’ll say the home-invasion thriller Panic Room, or Bugsy Malone, or Freaky Friday. It is a testament to Foster that John Hinckley Jr did not come to define her. It all …
