A 1960s canvas by Pop master Roy Lichtenstein, coming from the collection of a legendary New York collector-dealer who famously patronized the Pop artists, could become one of the artist’s top works to sell at auction. Anxious Girl (1964) bears an estimate of between $40 million and $60 million. If it achieves its high estimate, it will be his second-priciest work at any public sale. The painting, which will lead the house’s marquee 20th-century art evening sale on May 18, comes from the holdings of Holly Solomon and her husband Horace. Related Articles The news comes amid other announcements of high-value lots coming to the block courtesy of Christie’s and Sotheby’s (including the $53 million Wingate collection at Sotheby’s and a $35 million Renoir at Christie’s) as they aim to drum up excitement for their big May sales. In December, both houses posted improved 2025 results, suggesting stabilization in an unsteady auction market. Christie’s closed 2025 with $6.2 billion in global sales, up nearly seven percent from the previous year’s $5.8 billion, while Sotheby’s boasted …

Dame Prue Leith doesn’t think Great British Bake Off producers could have found a “better” replacement than Nigella Lawson. The 86-year-old star announced in January that she was stepping down as Paul Hollywood’s fellow judge on the Channel 4 baking competition, and food writer Nigella, 66, will be taking over inside the iconic tent. Reflecting on the decision, Dame Prue told HELLO! magazine: “I don’t think they could have chosen a better person. I don’t know her well, but what I know of her is all good.” Dame Prue previously insisted while Nigella will “be very different” as a judge, she is backing her to be a success. She told the Daily Star newspaper: “But she’s a class act, she really knows what she’s doing. “She knows her onions – people will expect her to know about cake, which she certainly does, but what they won’t expect is how clever she is, how sharp, witty – she’s really erudite. “She’s a fantastically clever woman.” However, she insisted Paul Hollywood could easily have continued as a …

A 16-year-old boy who joined a banned far-right group and researched a synagogue has been jailed for three-and-a-half years for a series of terror offences. The teenager, who cannot be named because of his age, was found guilty last month of possession of terrorist documents, dissemination of terrorist documents and membership of a proscribed terrorist organisation. But the jury at Leeds Crown Court failed to reach a verdict on whether he was planning a terror attack. The Crown Prosecution Service said in court it would not seek a retrial on this charge. In February 2025, the then 15-year-old boy was arrested at his father’s home in a village in Northumberland, where police found several journal entries about pupils at his school. He wrote “I swear to God I just hate my f***ing school”, and “I want to do horrible things to the people in my school. Some of them should be shot”, the court heard. President Donald Trump on Tuesday slammed the U.S.’ NATO allies over their reluctance to get involved in the Iran war, before asserting that the U.S. does not need any help with its ongoing military operations. The alliance of 32 European and North American nations is “making a very foolish mistake,” Trump said in the Oval Office during a meeting with the prime minister of Ireland, which is not a NATO member. Trump, a longtime NATO critic who has accused the organization of taking advantage of the U.S.’ spending and military strength, called the members’ hesitance to join the Iran war “a great test, because we don’t need them, but they should have been there.” Trump has claimed in recent days that numerous countries would be joining a coalition to aid the U.S. in Iran, including by helping to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route that has been choked off amid the war. He has called on “the Countries of the World that receive Oil through the Hormuz Strait” to “take care …
