How ‘Hacks’ Finally Killed Its Central Feud

How ‘Hacks’ Finally Killed Its Central Feud

The funniest sequence in the latest episode of Hacks begins with a classic rug pull. Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), arriving fashionably — and characteristically — late to a meet-and-greet for her most obsessive fans, breezes into the room only to face a sea of dead-eyed weirdos who appear to have her in their crosshairs. The legendary comic, currently clawing her way back to the top, is in dire need of support as she attempts to land a career-defining solo gig at Madison Square Garden. But her fans, affectionately known as “The Little Debbies,” are livid over her recent absence. They’ve spent years watching from the sidelines while Deborah sparred with her Millennial writer, Ava (Hannah Einbinder). This season, Ava finally slides into the position the series has seemingly been grooming her for since the pilot — and in typical overachiever fashion, she’s arrived there ahead of schedule. The Little Debbies’ list of grievances for the Deborah they feel has “gone Hollywood” is as specific as it is absurd. The “Deborah’s Do’s and Don’ts” list hasn’t …

Woman in her 70s killed in UK’s third fatal dog attack in a week | UK News

A woman in her 70s has died after being attacked by two dogs in a house in Wolverhampton. West Midlands Police said officers were called to Willis Pearson Avenue at around 11.30pm on Wednesday but the victim died at the scene. A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He was taken to hospital after his hand was injured in the incident. Police said the dogs were destroyed at the house due to “continued aggression” when emergency services arrived. They are not believed to be banned breeds. The incident follows two other fatal dog attacks last week; a three-month-old girl died in Redcar, near Middlesbrough, and 19-year-old Jamie-Lea Biscoe died after being found with serious injuries in Leaden Roding, Essex. Deaths from dog bites increased more than 200% in a year, according to a new report on accidental deaths and hospital admissions. Source link

Cruel father who killed five-week-old baby daughter jailed for life | UK | News

A father who murdered his five-week-old daughter by causing her a brain injury and more than 40 rib fractures in repeated assaults when he lost his temper has been jailed for life. Both of baby Darcy-Leigh Jefferson’s legs were also fractured in the 10 days before she died on March 29, 2022, a seven-week trial at Stafford Crown Court heard. Her father, 35-year-old Sean Jefferson, who was found guilty of murder and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, was handed a minimum term of 22 years on Thursday. Darcy-Leigh’s cocaine-taking mother, Amy Clark, 34, was found guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child and two counts of causing or allowing serious harm to a child after charges of murder and manslaughter against her were dropped by prosecutors during the trial. Clark, who was cleared of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, was sentenced to seven years in prison. A woman in the public gallery called Clark “scum” when her sentence was passed by the judge. Sentencing …

Manchester-born chef tragically killed in one-punch attack after making ‘Brummie’ comment

The family of a Manchester-born chef who was tragically killed in a one-punch attack after making a comment have made an urgent call for change, calling his killer’s prison sentence an ‘insult’. Cemal John Yilmaz, 29, who originally grew up in south Manchester, was sent instantly to the ground after suffering a ‘single, fast, jab-style punch’ on a night out in Exmouth on December 12 last year. Cemal was seriously injured and knocked unconscious, and later died of his injuries on December 16. A court heard how he had been out drinking when he encountered Royal Marine Joseph Jones on Church Street. Commando Jones had been out celebrating with his friends their recent passing out parade, a military ceremony which marks the completion of training for recruits or cadets. My Husband Killed Himself Just Hours After I Asked For A Divorce. Here’s What I Wish I’d Known Then.

My Husband Killed Himself Just Hours After I Asked For A Divorce. Here’s What I Wish I’d Known Then.

It was a night in October of 2004 when everything changed. I still remember the metallic click of my key in the door. It was late, clients had run long, traffic even longer — and all I wanted was to get out of my work clothes and lie down. Instead, the house felt … wrong. Though my husband’s truck was in the driveway, everything was dark. The porch light wasn’t even on. I called out his name as I stepped into the foyer — once, twice, then louder a third time. No answer. It was too quiet, like someone had pressed mute on a life that usually hummed with stereo music and my husband’s booming voice. I heard the wind chimes tinkling in the breeze on the deck. There was not even a sign of our cat. “Hello?” I called, more hesitantly. My chest tightened as I walked through the dark house, then spotted a dim light shining under the closed dining room door. I sensed there was something wrong as I pushed the door …

Woman killed by serial rapist ‘unlikely to be his first victim’

Woman killed by serial rapist ‘unlikely to be his first victim’

A woman killed by a serial rapist was unlikely to be his first victim, an expert has claimed. Emma Caldwell, 27, was killed in 2005, but it was not until 2024 that Iain Packer was convicted of her murder, along with a string of sexual offences against other women. Stuart Hall, a retired detective constable who was involved in the initial murder investigation, told a podcast he believed Packer carried out further offences. Asked whether the full extent of his crimes had come to light, he said: “No – short answer. I think there’s a lot more to be found out about Iain Packer. “Personally, I don’t think it was his first murder. I think there’s going to be more found out in the future. I’d love to be involved in something to do with that, but I think there’s far more to it.” Police questioned Packer in the weeks after Ms Caldwell’s murder, but in 2007, a group of Turkish men were charged in relation to her death. The case against them later collapsed. …
